Hi Bro Topic, Firstly i like to commend your illustration, very well presented for discussion. Must say that this is a very responsible way of seeking views and opinion Unfortunatly, at this stage, it is not easy to come to a final conclusion on the amount/type of wavemakers needed to meet your needs. Reason being your addition of corals on the LR will have a dynamic shift in the wave pattern, making it difficult to pin down a final wave maker positioning. Also the types of corals eg. sps will need some flow consideration as well. But if this picture you shown here is the current silute and assuming no sps, then I would suggest that you might need two MP40 on the same tank panel, but equally spaced across the width, your current height placement of the mp40 looks fine to me. If you have quite a fair bit of sps, then it will be a different ball game altogether. You will probably need to look at the types of sps and where they are placed in your LR before a proper flow management can be determine. Hope it helps. Cheers

IMO, water change might not the main reason why your stn stop. Some sps has the ability to hold on to their ground even they have loss some part of it as a result of stinging from the more agressive sps. Well of course wc may have aid in improving the water quality thus the healing ability of the sps. In fact, it would be very interesting to log down the supremercy between sps and keep a record of what species is more aggressive than the other. NSW is supposedly the better choice, but as bro braincoral said, the quality fluctuates due to pollution. For a stable and controlled manner, long term may be better to use salt mix. I have long suspected that the health of the sps when harvested from sea could also be a main reason. Sometimes, the particluar piece has already been under some climate stress for a while, it may appear to be ok but in actual fact it is already in the downhill condition, it will be a 50/50 chance of able to recover to it's normal state. Anyway, causalty is not a nice feeling, but in the case of sps, try to accept that it will happen from time to time and has nothing to do with your system. Take heart that you have tried your best

Hmm...indeed a very perculare situation and very difficult to derive the cause of it. However, SPS do STN / RTN ( though less lightly ) even in matured systems for no apparent reasons, and yes... Staghorn tend to exhibit more of such behavoir compare to others such as birdnest or poccillopora. In your case, the skimmer behaving strangely after your wc could be one main reason to the rtn. Sadly, in the case of NSW we cannot know the quality of it except at the hands of the provider.
