Agreed. I am no glass expert, but my crystal glass tank that's provided by CRA looks exactly the same as the pic. I have also compared with another glass panel ( back panel ) which is normal glass and the green tint is way more deeper. That said, I was told that crystal glass comes with different grade, some very top grade crystal glass comes not as light green tint but rather very light bluish tint.

Little ironies of SPS keeping
cedricang replied to christan1959's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Hi Littlejack, My thoughts is that whether plenty of coralline algea or not, it doesn't make me any more comforted if there is too much dosing causing a kh shock. The overshoot of kh is unlikely to be mitigated by the coralline algea consumption to prevent an ill effect on the SPS cause by the high kh level. Btw, one of the visible effect of KH overdose is the burn tip symptom. Also, I would say that a rising kh could be less damaging then a lowering of kh base on my experience. -

Yes, it seems irony that aussie spathulata coming from a prestine water could thrive under a higher nutrient systems. As you know currently I am running on 2 different system at different nutrient level. I have tried a few times to see how the same spathulata behave in mine 2 different nutrient levels. It turns out that almost all the trials gave the same results, that the frags under the higher nutrient system produce better color and survival rate is significant higher. I have to repeat this a few more times to draw a conclusion, but so far the past 3 trials proves to be so

All the best to your sale Bro

Yes, it's very useful to keep a log of activities done to the tank, this allows the reefer to keep track and learnt from the past action done to the tank Reefing is a journey, every setback is another step towards sweet success

SPS can derived their nutrition needs from a few way and feeding is one of them. For me , feeding them with Reefbooster or Reef Roid ( from our sponsor Reed Depot ) once or twice a week is more then enough to keep the SPS happy .

This is a very good point. Get to experience the cycling process and understand the constrains faced by an enclosed system ( i.e. marine tank ) , go through the stages and see for yourself the natural process in which nutrients and lightings affect the overall outlook of the tank. Try to do some thinking and why things happens they way they did, follow by understand via readings and research from the internet ( many great articles available from eg. advanced aquarist ) . Reefing is enjoyable not just from the admiring and visual satisfaction, but it can also be derived from learning and exploration perspective. Knowing that you understand why certain corals react the way they did can be quite satisfying.

Here's the blue spathulata, deeper blue over time. Have been providing nutrients ever since and notice good health is attained so far.
-
Hehehe... you missed out my blue spathulata that day ? It was my second try and got it survived ( touched wood ) for almost 2 years and counting. Very very surprising to have it colored under 250mh and colors holding well under good nutrient. My guess is that they need enough nutrient to sustain their vitality, in the wild they have no issue but when comes to ulns system, it becomes a challenge.

I do not use AF so I am not sure what they are. For KH, CA and MG, there are a wide variety of methods you can use to supplement to attain the level. Liquid (ready made) or powder form ( mixing your own ) and dose it via manual or auto-doser. The other method is using a calcium reactor but it could be a little advance for you I think. Usually, for a start , follow the product instructions and dose accordingly and start to take regular measurement using a reliable test kit ( salifert or Nyos ) , using the test result to determine if your dosing is on the right track and right amount, pretty straight forward.
