  1. I disagree with Johnderoe slightly though, don't mind. IMO , if the live rocks are cured, high chances are that there is already a mature colony of bacteria, it should be able to handle to ammonia spike.
  2. Red light encourages the growth of algae. I would remove the stock reds and change to actinic blues. Should bring down the algae problem a little bit. Secondly, don't believe what lfs say all the time, do your own research online. As long as you cycle your tank properly and slowly introduce the inhabitants, there should not be any problem. Thirdly, 0.3 for nitrate is actually quite negligible, I would test for phosphates and ammonia too. Apart from that, temperature is also another impt issue, if your temps are constantly fluctuating, your corals won't be happy at all.
  3. Hey Terryz can share what's your maintenance of your seafans? Like feeding regime etc? Been quite interested for sometime but scared to keep hahaha.
  4. And lastly, how long the water will clear up is not the issue, because you need a skimmer to skim away the excess bacteria in your tank. Each tank has a different profile, thus it is impossible to tell you when the water will clear up. If you run bio pellets, you must run a skimmer.
  5. The foam you see is actually what the protein skimmer would remove, but since you don't have a skimmer it's not removed from your water column. Adding bacteria is beneficial as it buffers the "cycle" and quickens the process, but in excess it's going to do more harm than good.
  6. The reason why there is a smell is because there is a lot of dead bacteria in your tank, running bio pellets must be accompanied with a skimmer to skim off the excess bacteria. I would lay off the dosing for now and just let the tank cycle as it is, let the parameters stabilise before adding new cultures into the tank. The more bacteria you add the more cloudy your tank going to get.
  7. I thought so too hahaha! But I was wrong. But got to give the magnet an 8 though, it's super strong compared to a lot of the magnets out there.

  9. Have experience with the nano mag, i would rate it at 6. Does the job well, but dosent reach the corners that you would want to reach.
  10. It's fine, be patient and keep watch of your parameters.
  11. I think the main issue with topping up tap water is algae. If you can deal with the algae then I guess it's fine.
  12. I currently using the mini 30 2b2w, my montipora growing quite okay. But for some reason my zoas don't seem to respond too well. Anybody experience?
  13. If you hard working change water regularly lor haha. IMO if you wanna stock it substantially should still have a skimmer, if not nutrient build up v fast especially in small tank.
  14. Think if you're keeping mainly zoas and a few small fish, you can skip the wavemaker and change the return pump to a slightly stronger one, and invest in a skimmer.
  15. Sps seem to respond Quite well to led lighting, but in my case, my zoas don't seem to pop as they did under t5ho. Anybody else experiencing this? My purple death looking brown under normal lighting only deep purple when I off the main lights and leave the blues on.
  16. It's not in identified, it's deformed, fresh water stingrays often have this defect, they call it the batman ray. The syndrome is similar to that of cleft lips in humans.
  17. Erps just to clear this is from my understanding do feel free to scrutinise!
  18. Dosing vodka is risky unless you have the expertise and know exactly what you're doing. Many people have crashed their tanks because they didn't know what they were doing. Vodka dosing requires an upsize skimmer. If you do not have one, I'd suggest that If you wanted to increase the capacity of bio filtration, running bio pellets is a good idea. However do watch how much pellets you add initially, adding too much at the start will cause a bacterial bloom, which many people have faced in terms of very cloudy or milky water. Do you dose bioptim or biodigest? I think it the simplest way by far. Hahaha! Hope this helps.
  19. My zoas have had that too, but I realised they were just eating fish poo. Lol
  20. Came on Friday from what I heard. But yes before this they didn't have a shipment for the whole of last month if I'm not wrong
