I recall in one of my trip to Iwarna. A fellow reefer caught interest of a zoa colony in the display tank. Although it is not for sale, there is a bro who proceed to frag one specimen from the colony for him. Isnt that super nice! So I feel this circle of reefers are indeed very nice people who will try to help if you ask. Just dont feel intimidated because they dont approach or talk to you.

Cheato or Bio-pellets
clownfish_forever replied to chriskessha's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
IMO there is no right or wrong answer but rather depends on what works best for your aquarium. Biopellet serves as the home for denitrifying bacteria to grow and these bacteria consume nitrate in their growth. It can be effective but it needs to be used with a powerful protein skimmer because you need a way to get rid of the excessive bacteria produced. If not, the bacteria circulating in the main tank may also cause algae bloom. Thats was what happened to me. On the other end, I feel cheato is more natural way to remove nitrate but it has a dependency on your refugium size. If your refugium is small and there is not much room for the chaeto anyway to grow then it will not be effective too. But cheato is a good home for pods which can serves as live food for your main tank. Hence I feel may need to experiment and monitor which works for you. It can be a combination of both or either one. -
Welcome Berny. You have a wonderful aquarium!

I raise the skimmer by 1.5cm and the overflow seems to be in control. Thanks bro! Will continue to monitor.

Thanks for the advice. If I don't have to touch B then is weird because the water keep overflowing the skimmer cup no matter how I turn the A.

Hi bro, I need some help here. I have only acquired this BM NAC9 yesterday, and it seems to continue to overflow... Please help me understand if I miss out anything...thanks! With reference to the photo attached, A - is where I can adjust the finest of the foam. B - is where I can adjust the water level. In fact if I block the air outlet with my finger I can make the water level go down so that it does not overflow...but I cannot figure out how to adjust it to control the water level without my finger. C - there is a tubing from the skimmer cup, may I know what is that for? The person who sold it to me said it is for water outlet but I never see any water come out... Thank you.

Looks really cool. Shallow tank is getting more popular. Really interested to see how you going to scape it - lagoon island? -
Hi bros, Helping a friend posting this photo for ID. I have seen this blue organism which is growing on the live rock. According to him, it seems to be spreading to nearby rock. Not sure if it is a sponge or coral...

Filter foam/wool vs filter bag
clownfish_forever replied to clownfish_forever's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Thank you -
Hi brothers, I need some advices on mechanical filtration. 1) Which one is better? filter foam/wool vs. filter bag? 2) Filter bags come with different micron, I believe the smaller the number the smaller is the pore size? If yes, isnt the smallest micron the best since it can be used to trap the smallest of particles. 3) I heard filter bags can be washed and reused. Any guidelines as to when to replace them? Thank you.

Kinda agree that there has been too much emphasis on SPS although no doubt SPS dominated tanks require more stingent husbandry. As said, it is always the huge SPS aquarium that gets the limelight...it may makes reefers who keep LFS and softies shy away from showcasing their aquarium...because lesser people appreciate a softie aquarium. Having said, whether softie, LPS or SPS, it is the reefer own choice. I guess we should agree that keeping a piece of ocean is more than just winning TOTQ. So dont be discouraged because your aquarium is not being 'recognised' - it is as long as you love it yourself

asterea snail and turbo snail

Different. You can google on them. Astraea are generally smaller which my preference than turbo. -
Healthy zoas suddenly withers
clownfish_forever replied to clownfish_forever's topic in Soft Coral Forum
I have attached a photo of the pink zoa problem I mentioned. Previously all 15 polyps are opened big and strong... now...can see some of the polyps withers off and some of the open polyps are smaller... I dont see zoa pox...i.e. no white spots -
Hi bros, i have a small colonies of pink zoas which started with 4 polyps and grow to 15 polyps. But suddenly the colonies just die off slowly. There are other colonies of zoas which are doing fine. And I have checked no zoas pests and no aggressive coral near it. Wonder what causes this. Any view? Thank you.

Hi bros, Anyone know of any LFS that carries exotic soft corals? I am hunting for long tentacle toadstool but cannot find. Even have also too small size. Can place order with LFS to bring in?
