Livestocks in chaeto refugium
clownfish_forever replied to clownfish_forever's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I have also read that some reefers advised against putting live stocks since it should be kept a haven for pod cultivation. -
Hi brothers, Anyone keep livestocks in their chaeto refugium? I think certain inverterbrates such as crabs and shrimps may work, anyone keep fishes in there too?

Hi brothers, Need some advices on this topic. My 120 gal aquarium is made up of 60% softie, shrooms and zoas, 30% LPS and 10% SPS - in fact I only have 1 monti and 1 acro. Before I keep SPS, my parameters are: dkh:7, ca: 500, mg: 1280 Ever since I keep the SPS, I noticed my dkh and ca starts to drop. Since I only have 2 SPS corals, I started to dose Brightwell Alkalin 8.3 (20ml) and PurpleUp (20ml) twice a week. I began to observe good PE and sign of growth of the SPS and coraline algae. Now the questions are: 1) Despite the dosage, my dKH still remains around 7. Does that mean I should dose Brightwell Alkalin 8.3 more frequently to up the dKH? my ca is now around 400 - 420. mg is still 1280. 2) I understand SPS use the calcium and bicarbonate to grow, if my tank has low dKH and Ca, does that mean my SPS will suffer? or they can still be happy just that wont grow? 3) Is that a cheaper source for dKH? I have read about limewater and baking soda...but I also heard about the cons, for instance baking soda will slightly lower the pH. Since I do not intend to go full-scale to SPS, I really wonder if I need to be so concious of the dKH and Ca of my aquarium. 4) I have one frag of monti that has half of it become white and died off already...I think because it dropped onto a yuma then become like that...just curious whether those died off part of SPS can recover? or I should simply break off those died-off part? Thank you. Any view and advice is welcomed

But for coral with slightly heavier base rock have to use epoxy. Anyway I suck at epoxy never stick well for me. Maybe my skill no good. Sigh.

Can these injured corals be restored?
clownfish_forever replied to clownfish_forever's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Aquarium: 48" x 18" x 24" tank with 24" x 15" x 15" sump Equipment: Maxspect Razor 120W x 2 16000K, Vortech MP40, Bubble Magus NAC 9, Eheim 1262, Hailea HS 66A Ammonia: 0 NO2: 0 NO3: 20 PO4: 0 -
Hi bros, Need some advice on whether these injured corasl be restored? I do not know the exact causes of them deteriorating but I do have other corals which are still healthy and striving... 1) Green bleaching mushroom - was doing well for weeks and suddenly it starts to deteriorate although I never disturb its position... 2) Hammer - when I bought it from GO, it was blooming. Only when I took it out from the bag, I noticed one part had already died off and it began to spread... 3) Zoas - also used to be striving for 1 - 2 months, then suddenly the polyps are no longer extending out fully...I observed for a couple of weeks and decided to change its location but it didnt work...slowly slowly gone... Any advice bro? Can they be recovered or should I give up on them? Thank you.

Cheato or Bio-pellets
clownfish_forever replied to chriskessha's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I never seed. When you get it from LFS or other reefers, bound to have pods within already.
