  1. They should not be gut hook if the angler used circle hooks..
  2. Dw reduce ph - use more buffer Dw rots produce no3 - use more biopallets Dw rots produce po4 - use more rowa Dw rots and stain water - use more carbon Sound ok , someone tried dw in a reef tank or doing a brackish water set up? Let's see some pics
  3. Check salinity hydrometer is only 25% accurate
  4. Calibrate refractometer with ro/di water ,should read 1.000 . If snail ,urchin or shrimps die as soon as introduced to tank is a sign of too high or too low salinity. Could be some other stuff but no harm checking .
  5. No secret , can try kranji , limchukang end, and west coast park , all these areas have mangrove trees , Best place to find is still the east side beach pasir ris , changi and east coast beach , need to go early before the beach cleaner sweep up the beach..
  6. Use a crab trap , essense of chicken bottle with some bait in it , put right side up with bottle lip touching some rocks
  7. Even when using livesand u will get dirty bubbly water , they are sand after all. Run the skimmer and socks and wait till water clears up before introducing the corals,
  8. If u buy live sand ... Then don't rinse with rodi or tap water .. They are a called live sand coz they are alive with bacteria and other stuff. Rinsing it will kill off the bacteria. New livesand from the pack will also produce ammonia, nitrite , nitrates due to some die off while in the package , so use with caution .. Especially when introducing sensitive SpS ..
  9. If u have high nitrates now , I would suggest you put in biosphere or bio pallets, mangrove will need time too grow and need many qty to have an impact .
  10. Thanks for the referral Mr Solasido ..
  11. Do u have deep sand in the current 2feet. Do u plan to transfer the sand too? Problems may arise if u move the sand or use new live or dead sand. (Ammonia, nitrite,Nitrate spike) If only moving rocks and live stock then it should be no problem and don't need cycling , it's just like a WC , but instead of changing water u are adding more water. We have done a tank transfer on Mr Sani Boyan tank using new live sand and add more water and all went well. But if u have sensitive Sps no gerentee they will survive. Check out Mr Sani tank thread he did mention bout the move.
  12. Mine has a white fluffy slime coating them ..
  13. Wow barnacle .. U linked us to a 10year old thread..!!
  14. Hari ni nye programme .... Turun LCK beli air n barang baik sikit. Lepas tu Pegi madpetz beli barang lagi , lepastu Pegi pasiris pinnical beli lagi, baru Balik ade kenduri sikit .
  15. Beneficial bacteria will thrive in the canister filter. But only aerobic bacteria which produce nitrates.if u are planning on keeping fish only in a salt water tank then it is no different from a freshwater tank. Nitrates will build up till u do water change And fish can tolerate high nitrate in the water. The problem comes when u keep corals especially Sps which will not tolerate high nitrates and phosphate. In order to remove nitrates and phosphate u will need some different sets of equipments/reactors/skimmers and all the other unsightly gadgets. So where do u place them ... In a sump... Then If u ask why can't a canister filter remove nitrates and phosphate .. They can't cos the water flow in a canister filter is too fast and too oxygenated for anaerobic bacteria to trive.
  16. Ok I'll take this. 1: How long does it take for a bio pellet to work ( as in melt and start reducing nitrate) It depends on the bacteria colony in your tank from 2weeks to 1mths rough figures ,faster if u dose bacteria like prodibio etc etc 2: Can you dose vodka and run bio pellet at same time? Yes you can they are the same thing ,carbon source one is liquid the other solid. 3: Does the ethanol in vodka evaporate or skim out? No it doesn't that's the carbon source 4: When I start vodka dosing, do i need to turn my chiller more cold inorder for more oxygen. (since warmer water deplete oxygen faster) No U don't, U have the skimmer and all that air bubbles 5: Do i dose in the main tank or in the sump ( Skimmer portion or bio filter portion) Anywhere will do but if u don't want your fish and corals to get drunk
