  1. There's a trend of ulns with high light and a certain product that will purposely eject the symbiotic zooanthellea leaving the Sps looking pale and bleached , or more pleasing word 'pastel' coloured. Which then after the colour element are used to tweak the colours of the Sps. Maybe these are the so called snowypora , bleached Sps are not dead Sps if provided with the correct tender loving care
  2. To my understanding , those so called deepwater Sps are those with smooth body and very few polyp. Like the lokani and suharsonoi , they don't necessarily come with white body , Camef from a deeper part of the reef 30m maybe and they can survive with lower light , I have a suharsonoi 'cultured one' placed at the bottom corner of my tank and it's doing good , was in quite a bad shape when i got it but it recovered well now and with good polyp extension. Note, I had zoas on this corner and they don't do well due to lack of light.
  3. They can actually go as deep as 40m maybe 45m max .. Anything deeper than that is a myth
  4. Check out Suharsonoi Granulosa Loripes However I don't think they are really from deepwater especially if they are cultured for sale.
  5. The sting from this fish is not so bad , some bleeding and about 1/2 hour pain .. That's about it. If stung soak in hot water .. Hottest u can tolerate .. (Not scalding hot). Pain will go away faster.
  6. I don't think he lives in singapore , I've never seen those kinda nsw , looks nicely packed for retail.
  7. His obsession is still not complete yet .. We are pushing him for a SPS and LPS mix tank , the poison is slowly dripping into his veins via jebao dosing pump.
  8. I would agree on that , fauna marine ultraPhos and Seachem phosguard are Aluminium based GFO and I would say cleaner than those normal iron based GFO, still have to wash thoroughly at first tho. I'm doing Seachem phosguard so far Sps has no effect , there some reviews saying aluminium has ill effects on Sps but all good for me now.
  9. All bottled di water should read 1.0, even tap water should read 1.0
  10. http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6/algae-scrubbers-pros-amp-cons-210197.html A good read , a debate on scrubbers good or bad , for those who likes reading 5 pages of post
  11. About the scrubbers , I have done all 3 scrubbers type and the last one a floating one is still running and I'm monitoring the effectiveness and it's pros and cons as well. I've done a waterfall scrubber , decomed it due to salt spray and extra powerhead used. The upflow scrubber , great working gadget ,needs only an air pump but hair algae grows on the glass , difficult to remove and get algae sucked into the DT. Current one the floating scrubber , so far is the best one I guess ,harvesting just require me to lift up the light box and grabbing handful of algae , don't need to remove the whole box. As for the current design still has flaws cos the light rays still illuminate the whole sump and I'm getting some algae growth on the sump baffle plate and glass minimal so far so not a big problem. I would suggest anyone who's starting a scrubber to go to santamonica algae scrubber forum and study a bit about the design and which will suit your tank best..
  12. Those plastic Mesh the algae will grow on
  13. Quite easy actually , u need a screen , water to flow over it , and a light source. Water flow by using pump, air bubble or even direct from overflow pipe.
  14. Some updates , decomed my mangrove plants and added another scrubber , So main filtration are 2 floating scrubbers (DIY) and a skimmer. The scrubbers are doing great and require weekly harvest , having 2 scrubbers makes it better cos I can clean one while still have enough algae in the other to maintain the tanks loads.
