Well, firstly, black-list the shop u got the water from!!! Obviously they belong to the IRRESPONSIBLE category of merchants, so u have to watch wat u hear from them (or any other shop owners for that matter). Most of the stuff they say are meant for SELLING, not ADVISING... Hmm since u bot the clowns already, i guess u might as well use them to cycle yr new tank (alternative would be to leave them with another person's tank until yr tank is ready)??? Get some basic stuff for yr new tank, like sand, sea salt, hydrometers to help u prepare yr tank for the fish...U can find more on how to do this here: http://www.sgreefclub.com/forums/index.php...87bb84152143402 Its more for reef tank, but u never know when u might go into dat rite? GOOD LUCK

Difference between 6500K and 10000K?
wedgee replied to wedgee's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Actually me getting it for my 3 footer; 2x55W PL 6500K, and i have 2 more hood for my FL actinics (guess i'm obsessed with the 'blue' reef look!!! Will keep u posted abt the lights-gotta wait though, cause i getting them on bonus-day!!! eheheh --Btw Ryan, have u got any problems with the 50/50 PL? My actinic PL sucks, making my bubble coral bleach and promotes hair algae!!! -

Thanx guys for yr help...think i'll follow yr advice AT, cause thats similar to wat i read on the net (just had to ask u guys to be sure), heheh... I hope the 6500K doesnt promote any algae blooms though? -
Difference between 6500K and 10000K?
wedgee replied to wedgee's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Er ok, but i think it'll be damn expensive there... Can tell me wat the difference between 6500K and 10000K is? -
"OH NO!!!" Not another lighting question??? Heheh, afraid so... Need some clarification here regarding PL lights; 6500K and 10000K wats the difference? Issit just the color (visually) or does it affect the type of corals dat i can keep? I just ordered 55W 6500K light hood from Nature- he said he didnt bring in 10000K 55W PL cause they had some 'manufacturer' fault inherent (Aqualux)... I've been using 36W 10000K for one month, and i like the white it produces, so if possible, would have to look for 10000K 55W instead of getting the 6500K from him... Anyone knows where to get different types of PL light? From dat Sim Lim shop issit? THANX

Hmmm yr NO3 seems to be similar to mine, but the dozen or so small anemones in my tank have been doing well for a few weeks...some even expanded and moved to their ideal 'homes'. I'm thinking could it be doing some spring-cleaning? I've read somewhere that anemones constantly bloat and flatten to expel their wastes, and one of mine once looked like it's life had been sucked outta it! But after one night (i just let it be), it re-inflated and 'came back to life'!!!

Gonioporas produce toxins enough to kill mice!
wedgee replied to Achilles Tang's topic in LPS Coral forum
Frankly, I dont understand how those guys can tahan not changing their water regularly; imagine you're the coral or fish in the tank, and the water dat u LIVE in is the same, not matter wat has been put into the tank (waste, chemicals, dirt, the owner's hands!)... Just the thought of dat makes me reach for the salt mix and mix mix mix... -
It doesnt really create waves, cause the outflow is downward, from a slope, into the tank - much like a playground slide for the water...

For anyone interested, the street is Tung Choi Street, also know as "Goldfish Street" in chinese... I went there twice, and must say I just couldnt get enuff of the street!!! My GF goes to HK for the sales, whereas i go for this fishy paradise! It's 2 long rows of LFS shophouses spanning over 2 or 3 junctions, parallel to each other, selling simply every type of equipment imagineable, but like B|uEc@rpEt said, the fishes are mostly ill-treated; most of them in small plastic bags ready for sale, at very low prices! I bot plants, corydoras (dirt cheap!) and lotsa yamato shrimp back for my FW tank... This is a good look at the place: Hong Kong Goldfish Street!!! As for the map, couldn't find it on the net (but i have a hard-copy), so guess anyone wishing to go there can just grab a city map at any hotel and 'chiong' from there...MTR at both ends of the street, so u wont miss it!

If u can afford it, I guess its good to buy the prizm (me using it since i started my tank, and it works just fine), since u might be upgrading yr tank or even setting up a new one in future? It's always good to be kiasu in this hobby... Anyways, the skimmer doesn't really look that bad, cause it's very slim and in a dark color, which might even be better looking than the airstone-driven, long tubular ones (most of them are transparent and u can see all the gunk inside, BLEH Hope this helps?

Help! Coral ID & Nitrate problem?
wedgee replied to wedgee's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Yah! Same thing here! My Bubble seems to be suffering under this stupid light! It keeps spitting out its guts once every few days! I think i shall not wait; tomolo gotta go buy a normal 10K daylight instead!!!! THANX for sharing yr similar experience LOONZ!!! -
Don't worry too much Ryan, me experience the same thing quite often too...It seems that these bristleworms are sensitive to elements dat we add into the tank (maybe too quickly, i guess), cause i have seen a few creeping out of their holes when i dripped Kalkweisser into the tank!!!

Nivlac, wat do the pratas require? Do they eat? They prefer low or strong light? Current-wise? THANX IN ADVANCE...
-
I'm curious...do those 'pratas' look dat nice? (different tastes i guess, heheh) What kinda corals are they? Photosynthetic? Look kinda wierd...which LFS can u find them? Oops, hope NIVLAC or possibly some other 'prata' fans dont slam me for my comment hahah

Wah, the very things Marine Aquarists would do to keep their tank healthy and thriving... Didnt even feel like so much dedication when i was in FW...
-
I'm Bedazzled... U really are a pro to have taken on Freshwater plant tank as well... Hated the pruning so much i didnt even think of going there...
-
MAN! I have to admit-DATS THE BEST IDEA I'VE SEEN !!!!! But it'll work on small ones only ya? Must use huge bottles to feed the large corals... THANX for posting it up TTBoy!
-
Ya my clowns were chased ard all day by the stupid blue devil too, but they soon got used to it and ignored the bully completely; sometimes the bigger clown even bites back! Talk abt attitude! Anyways, i tink it helps if u can have more hiding places and feed enuff to the damsel daily...they fight mostly when u approach the tank and such yah?

Help! Coral ID & Nitrate problem?
wedgee replied to wedgee's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I think it probably is the light, Loonz...the algae growth under dat so-called aqualux Actinic PL seems to be especially luscious too...will be changing it when i get my next paycheck heheh -
WOW! Strange how such a small creature can attract so much attention and comments, heheh Anyways, i guess i dont really have to worry so much for now rite? Really dont wana risk collapsing my rock structure just to get to the bastard... Maybe when things start disappearing or dying; that will be a different story... BTW NIVLAC, how much u selling the trap for? Was it effective? Got pic to see? heheh...
-
You're scaring me, Loonz... Issit really that hard to keep corals? My bubble seems to be growing alot since it was put into my tank leh, and one of the mushroom also split into 2 smaller pieces... Hope i can make it thru the tough spot like u once faced, cause i dont think i have the strength or budget to fix up another when my current one self-destructs... Btw, any sure-tell way to know yr tank is doing ok? Other than water tests?

"PANIC" I decided to rid my tank of the notorious mantis shrimp (1" in length) just in case anything were to eventually fall prey to it, and used the freshwater approach-- i took the rock out and sprayed freshwater into it's burrow, but it refused to come out after 2 minutes, and i was worried if the mushrooms and anemone on the rock were getting stressed out...I replaced the rock eventually, only to see in horror, the dastardly piece of shrimp swim out and disappear into another piece of rock!!! AAARGH!!! Now i dont even know where it is, and as if to show off its victory over a dumb human, it's started to make super loud and continuous 'pop' sounds in its new home!!! Oh the 'thrills' of keeping a reef tank are endless.... Does anyone know wat kinda prey they go for? Anyone had any unpleasant experiences with them? I might consider getting a trap from LFS if it starts doing damage soon...any idea where to get?

Help! Coral ID & Nitrate problem?
wedgee replied to wedgee's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Ya it's on the bottom, where it's covered by the phosphate sponge and various filter media, but there is a gap at the bottom of this compartment, which allows for water to sorta flow in too...will try to put up a pic by tomolo so can see if it actually can serve as a DSB? I also dont know wat kinda purpose the sand serves now, actually...thot i could use it as a NO3 killer... Btw thanx guys, for yr quick replies, appreciate it... -
Help! Coral ID & Nitrate problem?
wedgee replied to wedgee's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Yes! Dats the product i was thinking of!!! Wat i dont know is; does it mean i have to use it frequently and regularly? (if i don't remove the source, it'd keep coming back right?); how do u use it with the skimmer? Btw, i have this approx. 5 in' cube of sand in my overflow compartment, below the filter sponge and carbon and stuff....does it work in reducing my NO3? Or does the DSB need to be INSIDE the tank, as the substrate??? -
SPADE, do keep us updated regarding yr DIY NO3-killer ok? Me having huge problems with me NO3 too....SIGH!!!!
