  1. Ya just wanted to remind them dat the use of water changes would be necessary if no regard were to be given for KH levels and such, cause the new guys might misunderstand us and take it as: 'let the water run its course without having to care abt the basic elements...'
  2. Hmmm although CA might not affect the fishies so much, i dont tink we shld let them live in water dats dKH 4 and CA 200 etc right? Its like forcing a human to breathe in O4 instead of O2, oxygen? At least do regular water changes (duration can be further apart unlike reef tanks) to help remove any unfiltered/unskimmed wastes and to smoothen out watever imbalances might have occured during the upkeep of the fish (i tink even live rocks would leech or suck elements!?) Of cos, test kits would be rather unnecessary for CA and KH, but at least lets keep the PH at stable and natural levels... AT, I dont believe its good to just shake off the value of KH and CA, even if they dont kill the fish outright...who knows, most of us who keep fishes only most surely venture slowly into coral-keeping!? Just my thoughts, no offence...
  3. Hmmm i tink that since we are showering praises at the LFS and their owners, there shldnt be the need to "***" censor out their names right? I'm sure they 'wouldnt mind' it this time round heheheh
  4. 128 is crappy as hell (miss out on alot of frequencies) 192 is abit closer to CD quality 256 u dont really find them alot unless u encode yrself... 320 i tried a few, some are surprisingly soft, but in all, it is just too huge to use, might as well use WAV? Just my opinion heheh
  5. Where do we get this zooplankton leh? At Waterc***e issit? How much issit for dat bottle?
  6. Hey superdude, do u feed yr blue and yellow sea fans??? I want to get some blue ones from T95 all the time, but scared they will starve cause i feed only BBS on alternate days... Nice nice nice tank man!!!
  7. I second Matrix Carbon - the results can be seen almost within a few hrs, and it is cheap if bought in large qty...
  8. Try to give it slightly more circulation, and pray...it seems to be spitting its guts out...
  9. Hey gang, was trying to look for info on wat frozen or freeze dried foods to feed SPS which extend their polyps at night (some in the day too...) I know there's Golden Pearls and self-cultured planktonic foods, but these either unavailable locally or are a hassle to cultivate (for lazy bum like me! ) Please let me know wat kinda frozen or dry foods are correctly sized for SPS, and where to get them? Best if u can include the cost, dont wana get chopped by LFS. I saw some Cyclop-eze this afternoon (frozen and dried), but didnt know if it works for SPS... Please enlighten me, THANX!!!
  10. Sigh, looks like all of us got the same problems with coralline growing all over...its now threatening to smother my front glass view too....Oh man, wat to do....
  11. If i stare at the tank long enough to spot any unsatisfying rockscape or algae spots, then it comes up to at least 2 to 3 hrs a day, if not, then the peeks and drippin of CA and KH takes just 1/2hr at most...
  12. I tink if this dude is large enuff, it will even attack a miniature shark!!!
  13. Hello, i have a real mean but pretty and super-tough (my tank was without circulation for a week, and it survived!!! Good for FOWLR (but must be with larger fish or mean ones, like the trigger) tanks and beginners who love triggers Anything to offer in exchange?
  14. ??? Sorry but i thot u sold yrs already Dispar? If not then sorry, i apologise...
  15. If u talkin abt those orangy Linkia type, ML has lots of them, some as huge as yr palm...not cheap though...alternatively can try coralfarm (they have stars most of the time)
  16. I got a Prism to sell too, its abit chipped off at the front, but its operation is not affected, and i got lots of coralline stuck on it...now its just sitting there doing nothing after i upgraded to a Remora Pro. Bought last december at Petmart, now selling $70
  17. Hey interested in my unused DTs? They are sitting in my fridge, and gonna expire in Oct...can sell u cheap, $5...pm me
  18. Spidey is right abt the speed factor - I had to experiment and do trial and error before I managed to keep my KH above 9 most of the time...now its crawling up to 10+ The whole process of slowly dosing took about 2 to 3 mths, and I have settled into this order of dosage (might not work for yr tank though!) --first day drip reef builder --2nd day drip CA additive ( if u using Kalk then gotta watch yr PH and adjust the schedule accordingly) --3rd day drip reef builder again --4th day rest... repeat the cycle... Using this i can achieve 10dKH and appx 360 for my CA (gotta work on the CA tho...) It is still far from balanced, if u were to use the KH/CA calculator that spidey quoted (cant recall the link too!), but at least I can keep the KH slightly higher. I tink i will do gradual water changes with salt mix to balance things up more for the CA, as i have been using NSW for my water changes... And if yr tank is still new (3mths-5mths), dont worry too much first, just carry on dripping in moderate amounts and not let the KH drop below 8 or 7, cause it seems the chemical properties of the water are not stabilised at this point of time Just my personal experience, hope it helps!
  19. Hmmm it seems like there are always opposing and supporting views regarding almost EVERY aspect of reef-keeping, from salts to NSW to changing/not changing water, lighting, skimming....it really makes the hobby very interesting yet mind-boggling, doesnt it???!?!!?!? Oh well, since this thread is one salt mixes, just like to ask u guys something - I got 2 small boxes of Instant Ocean salt mix, of which have been sitting there for at least half a year (havent used them cause i changed to using natural seawater). The contents are now slightly clumped up, and i can even see a few small water droplets inside the package...does this mean the salt has started to react with its surrounding moisture? Are they still good for use? Thanx
  20. Ya man, i was really fascinated by their air-conditioned, slightly dim-lit shop, with these tanks of marine pleasures.... Too bad they went fresh-water...and now, guess its back to square one???
  21. If u wana go for shops, then just head for Alan Photo at Sim Lim Square or MS Color/Photo? at Ang Mo Kio Central (tink so). Only these 2 places will not chop yr head off like a carrot-top... If u prefer better service and instalment payments, go for Best Denki lor, make use of the credit card 0% payments...
  22. Glad to hear some actual experience, Robe... So u are using food grade Baking Soda for yr KH maintenance? How are the results, have u seen any abnormal happenings in yr tank? If food grade baking soda is ok, then i guess no harm in trying this pharmaceutical use product? Need a confirmation here...dont wana kill me tank...scary
  23. Hmmmm so wats the conclusion? Is this bottle of Sodium Bicarbonate free from the additives of common houshold used baking soda? And does anyone have the answers to the Borates etc question? Wah instead of knowing wat to do with the bottle, i am now more hesitant to put it into my reef....
  24. Hmmm does the Seachem Reef Builder provide these elements then? And wat abt those of us who are using the lab grade Sodium Bicarbonates? Are they lacking in these chemicals too? Will a shortage of Carbonate and Borate affect the water chemistry other than being inadequate for buffering? Will a water change help to balance them up? Thanx!!!
