  1. Wonder if the content is as wat they specified???
  2. Hi guys, i found this interesting bottle of Sodium Bicarbonate for sale very cheaply in a pharmacy, and thought it might be a better substitute for KH builders (am i right? Cause i recall tanzy mentioning it as a strong alternative), if it were pure enough for reef use... Tink I'll call the company up (local, so shld be easy) and ask them if there are any other impurities in it...
  3. I'd try a SICCE Extrema, cause it is quite a high volume pump (i using it for my 3ft main tank-2ft sump too), and its volume is adjustable, which can eliminate the trouble of using valves... Its not as expensive as an Eheim too, and its shaft is a ceramic one...
  4. Hi guys, i have a small PET bottle (those Coke/pepsi plastic ones with a screw-cap) of DT phytoplankton, which I have only used once or twice, and have stopped dosing, in case it aggravates my current Hair algae... I'd gotten it from another reefer who bot the large one from Edmund, and then shared it with me. The plankton stock is good till October 2003 (on the original bottle) Anyone interested in exchanging it for any small frag/shrimp, or anything that might be useful? If u wana buy also can, i will accept a small fee Do get it guys, cause it has been sitting in my fridge for a mth or two, and i'll prob be throwing it away when it expires...
  5. Oh no, how are we gonna stop this SPS wave thats crashing thru SRC??? Great tank Robe - i guess u still tink its half empty right? Hope those shipments keep coming in!!! Btw any chance u selling any frags from the big colonies?
  6. Sometimes they clip and dig so hard, it REALLY hurts!!!
  7. My container is just a water scooping bucket, and it has a thin layer of calcium on the bucket walls. Does this affect the quality of newly mixed kalk water? I tried scrubbing it, but it was like cement!!!
  8. Is there a reason to wait for freshly mixed saltwater to age for awhile b4 adding to the tank? I've read some posts which say we should, but no real evidence mentioned leh...So is there a diff if I were to add in the water immediately after mixing? Which by the way is wat some pple are doing... Would appreciate some help here?
  9. Wow! 30 and 31??? Mine ard 29.something and the corals all unwilling to open fully...any problems with yr tanks guys? Wat LS do u keep btw?
  10. Hey guys, I dont usually talk abt this, and i dont mean to over-react, but i think we as serious hobbyists who are concerned (i hope!) abt the preservation of reefs worldwide, shld refrain from taking ANYTHING from the reefs when we go diving and stuff? Imagine if one thousand pple think this when they goto the reefs every month: "Hmm i take one tiny piece wont hurt lah..." Soon, the reefs that took millions of years to form will be gone in just a few years!!! Imagine an SPS takes a year to grow just more than 12cm??? Our buying is very slowly killing the reef too actually, and I hope we can eliminate that slowly by going towards supporting CITES cleared stock (gonna cost, i know, but only way to go i guess), and hopefully having farms like the US do... We've also been trying other ways like trading frags, teaching each other wat to do and wat not to do, as well as wat not to buy, in the hope that those LS that are sold in the LFS can survive and not be sacrificed unnecessarily... So lets not waste our efforts ya? PS: Sorry for hi-jacking this thread, but i just couldnt help speaking out...sorry if i offended anyone
  11. Hmmm how do u guys get dry skimmate in the CUP itself leh? I turn up the water till the bubbles can pop at the top of the mouth, and end up with the color and watery skimmate like yrs, Tango...If i turn it down, the bubbles stay in the mouth and NO skimmate is collected in the cup...how to get dry skimmate in the cup?????
  12. Pls read this if yr tank has clams and bi-color... Bi-color gone berserk! But i dont think they ALL are crazy...just dat i got a wacko blenny...
  13. Erm, how do u chop the algae, tanzy? They just disintegrate when u pick them and squish them...My Urchins dont seem to like green hair leh, how to get them to munch on it?
  14. Hahahh tango, u shld sell yr UV light in another thread or another time - who would wana buy it after reading wat Tanzy said???
  15. Use an Antibacteria soap, like Dettol...another way i use is to wash me hands in tap water first and shake it off before putting my hand in...
  16. AT, u sure Tuxedo Urchins graze on hair algae? 2 of mine only chomps on Corraline, and so does my black Urchin... RC pple also say they tend to eat Corraline instead of hair?
  17. hmmm good point there, but its hard to know how much to use and how often, when it comes to self-made supplements? Also, the quality and process of preparation is i think critical, especially when it comes to vitamins and stuff, as they become ineffective or are killed very easily and quickly? Do teach us some if u have mastered the art of self-made supplements ya?
  18. Erm only chiller so huge leh, then the circular part of the eggcrate looks like an exhaust outlet...
  19. Wow, so fast so many replies! Aiyah, those so-called fish R&D intensive or professional feeds and products are mostly just self-proclaimed, i guess...Anything goes when u buy something dats liquid and hasnt been fully rated yet (by official sources...) Hmm sorry, i meant $12, Bawater (hahah really a hazard to post replies late in the night!!!) So from wat u guys say its not much of a diff for the various brands? Wat do u all recommend then? Cheap and Good one? Where to get them?
  20. I saw one at Petmart selling: by Boyds', the manufacturer of Chemi-pure carbon...issit good? (it goes at 412 per small bottle, so I'd like to have someone who has tried it to recommend ya?) Also, I see the guys in RC recommending Selcon, and it seems that it is good for enriching food and adding to the tank direct for feeding...where can i get this in SGP? But my guess is that it probably is NOT sold in SGP
  21. Waaaaaaaaaahhhh....yr pic looks like a Picasso piece....Waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh
