For DE bulbs nipple points up for Iwasakis it does not matter.

If its German bulbs typically 4.2 KV or for some 6 KV

316 stainless steel is resistant to saltwater to some extent but in an oxygen rich brine solution the metal will eventually corrode but in a gradual rate over a year or more. Iwaki pump casing and impeller are made of polypropylene plastic, ceramic bearings and bushing with no metallic part in contact with the fluid at all. Your water though must be free of abrasive particles like fine sand or you'll wear out the pump very fast.

For radium MH lamps try Penta Lighting at AMK indst'l pk 2. THey have 250w radium at $100 each (while stock last) but if demand is there they will reorder. They used to have 400w radium as well but they say they will not reorder it anymore. If all the reefers here can band together they can reorder it again. THey can also order Osram blue 400 watts lamp. I have not seen what the Osram blue will look like yet but it should be similar. The last time I asked another shop they say they can sell at $110 each for quantity of 10 per order. Please note that Osram has not printed any spectral distribution chart so not sure whether the peak falls at 450 nm ( I suspect that some of the 20K bulbs in the US other than radium or Ushio comes from Osram.)

I think the centre braces of the tank prevented the radium from mixing w/ the two iwasaki flanking it, otherwise the banding will not be obvious. AT is also right with the reflector used it seems very focused into a narrow cone. You need to tune your reflector to have a bigger spread or cone of at least 90-120 degrees if u put it at the centre depending on the distance from the water surface.

Watch out they may sue you for defamation! They'll take away ur tank, ur corals, ur lou han as well........

If you ask Hai Cheong to do it for u then its expensive as labor cost is high. I wanted them to do it for me the last time but too expensive and the skimmer design is not yet perfect. For DIY skimmers u have to undergo a trial and error approach till u find the right proportion.

I have tried Champion Lighting and Marine depot. Shipping charges by Marine Depot is cheaper than Premium aquatics. Champion Lighting shipping charges is probably more expensive because it's on the East Coast while Marine Depot is in California. www.championlighting.com www.marinedepot.com I have also ordered Korallin calc reactor from Hong KOng at a cheaper price compared to either US or Europe. Shipping is also cheaper as they use postal parcel service to ship but GST will be applied to your purchase once it reaches Singapore.

I use an Eheim 1060 to drive my chiller but with inlet filter to remove abrasive particles. refrigeration design for fluid cooling recommends higher flow rate over heat exchanger surfaces to maximise heat transfer efficiency. The high flow rate over the surface prevents a thermal layer from forming over the surface of the heat exchanger. The other disadvantage of slow flow is that the detritus will accumulate over time is some corners of the chiller. Having a turbulent flow inside the chiller heat exchanger minimises the build-up of sediments inside the chiller. It will not prevent though organic matter build-up on the surfaces be it titanium or plastic. This problem requires the coils to be cleaned. If your chiller casing is plastic with titanium coils, recirculating an acidic liquid will help remove this build-up
-
rrbot, Check the refrigerant gas may need to top-up and the filter drier as well. Other factors that may contribute are dirty coils reducing the heat transfer rate. they say that the older TECO chillers does not use titanium coil but rather copper encased in some kind of plastic. Ask Alvy ask he dissected his old TECo before. His chiller's coil has some portion thinned down amost to the copper coils.

If you're buying salt check if there are any lumps inside the bag. If there, don't buy it as it is likely going to have calcium precipitation when you mix it. Instant ocean, Kent are the two brands that always have this problem . It may be their packaging is not as good or there is a lot of moisture when they bagged the salt. Kent is good if you get a bag without any trace of lumps.

Reefers are not the main cause of liverock or reefs decimation. Human civilization is the culprit. The human race is the biggest factor that has attributed to decimated countless square kilometers of reefs in just a hundred years. Overfishing, chemical waste, sewers draining into the seas and plain making for a living cause their destruction. Add to that global warming from the use of fossil fuels since the start of the industrial revolution. Global warming destroys entire reefs in a season some never to recover at all. Ban the human race, eject them into space and save the earth!!!!

They require lots of MH light, calcium reactor, good skimmer, lots of attention and patience and a chiller to prevent them from being cooked by the lights.

Watch out for siphon overflows as you might end up with a flooded floor. Unless you have a perfectly balanced overflow these things will give you problems. What I did the last time is have a glass store cut some glass around 6 inches x the lenght and depth of the tank and stuck them around the tank to raised the tank height. On the back leave out a gap where you can make a glass box with a drilled hole for the drain. The principle is to use it as an overflow box but mounted behind the tank.

Hi AT, I bought my tank and regulator from them. Industrial grade tank and oxygen regulator that will last for years. Tanks are DOT approved and pressure tested. Get the Japanese Co2 tank. Union Sheng Welding Pte Ltd Blk 28, Sin Ming Dr #01-165 Singapore 575702 Phone : 64533711 Fax : 64594840 For the precision metering valve : Amazon Int'l Pte Ltd 61, Kaki Bukit Ave 1 #05-39, Shun Li Ind Pk Singapore 417943 Phone : 67436326 Fax : 6749245 The company I brought it from the last time have changed names and I cannot find it anymore. Used to be Singapore Valves and Fittings at Mandai Estate.

Go to Sim Lim Tower and replaace those fans with 230VAC units. GEt a Japanese branded fan with ball bearings not bushings. They cost more but they are quiet and last for long time.

Hi AT, I bought my Japan made tank at Sin Ming from an industrial gas supplier. Its a steel body around 10 kg I estimated. $100 is the price I paid. The tank is still pumping gas to my reactor since JUly 2001 w/out refill yet. I a also using Nupro (Swagelok) industrial precision metering valve ($100) and a plain oxygen regulator ($60) with dual gage and pressure regulator. Don't refill your tank at LFS as they use another tank to refill it. It is just pressure equalisation and results in not having a filled tank. The best is to go to the industrial gas supplier like SOXAl so that they can fill it up to the max.

Hi cedric, Don't worry about your ph going down to 8 in the morning. Mine fluctuates between 7.9, 8.0 to 8.3, 8.4 at peak. So far my acros are sprouting tips like crazy. It's normal for the ph to fluctuate down to 7.9 to 8.0. You can put a refugium on reverse lighting to compensate.

If you work n Japan the prices actually are affordable. Japanese monthly salary is like double to triple Singapore's salary scale on the average. Hi Creetin, Yes those are acroporas, to replicate something like a shallow reeftop is a reefer's dream and those Japanese are doing a great job!

Cannot afford their prices.... check out this SPS tanks in Japan also.... I'm drooling at H's tank a mature sps tank woooooowww!!!!!!! http://homepage3.nifty.com/reef/rtgallrey.html

Check out what they sell in Japan! http://www.reef-kuki.com/acropora1.html

Hi Tanzy, Can trade you a sky blue staghorn frag for your tetra color acro....
-
It will depend on how u configure ur second chamber if u do not recirculate the second chamber then u should get a ph of 7+ but if u recirculate it u can get 6.5 if u increase ur CO2 bubble rate. My second chamber is recirculating and my effluent is 6.8 at around 2 drops per second and bubble at 1 every 1 to 2 seconds.

HAppY ChrIstmaS!!! MErrY nEW YeaR!!!!! All I want for Christmas is a bunch of pink, yellow and violet acropora!!!!! and I almost forgot a blue maxima! black maxima is asking too much...
