You guys measure Magnesium levels?
robe replied to Achilles Tang's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
I have used Epsom salt for the past 6 months and so far so good, I used itsparingly though around 4 teaspoons once every 2 weeks. It dissolves better in moderately hot water -
Hi Dan, DId the small blue purple and green digitata I gave you survive? NIce tank hmmm makes me think of making a small one... regards, Robe

HI AT, The place no longer exists. Try to search for Swagelok or Nupro in the Greenbook directory to find another dealer. That was the address I posted some time ago as I bought my precision metering valve from them. Look for Swagelok or Nupro metering valves. It costs around $100. Robe

So far I have tried the following: reef Evolution : Good Lab grade: Poor with lots of calc. carbonate particles Seachem : Good Kent : Poor same as lab grade Reefez: Good main criteria: dissolvability and absence of calcium carbonate particles in the initial solution mixture

You need a non return valve or check valve at each pumps output but you cannot run them together unless they have the same specs and all operating conditions are the same otherwise the flow will cancel out each other. central chiller system for buildings can run several pumps simultaneously but they have monitoring and control systems to ensure that they function correctly.

If you follow the thread closely. It seems that they suspect the very fine ca. carb particles as the cause of the high dkh reading. Ina way if you have fine particles recirculating in your pump, you'll find that it will wear down surfaces of impeller or the pumps ceramic shaft. You might want to wait and see first before you invest in an expensive reactor.

If you can find a cheap 2nd Iwaki go for it!

Compaatible with the turbelle electronic right?

IS it controllable?

HI Ervine. Your fan would be more effective blowing at the water directly rather than exhaust accumulated hot air inside the light. The heating of the water from MH lamps is caused by the radiation to a greater extent, infrared emitted from the arc and to some extent from the visible light waves hitting the tank. It is also better to cool down the ballast to maintain the resistance of the coil. The hotter it gets the resistance increases leading to energy inefficiency. Latent heat is released or absorbed as during the phase change of matter from liquid to vapor , vapor to liquid, solid to liqud or liquid to solid (example. Ice , steam)

The spotlight in Carrefour are halogen lamps and are not the same as MH lamps. You need ballast for MH lamps while halogen lamps do not. Go to Victron and get a proper MH fixture with control gear.
-
Hi ervine, MH lamps are not supposed to be cooled directly by blowing on the lamp directly as it affects the lamp performance . It willcreate uneven sttress on the glass as well as eneven cooling leading to unstable lamp characteristics. If you notice stadium lights all over Singapore they are using selaed weatherproof housing without cooling. I think there is a misconception about cooling MH lights. The cooling should be directed at the ballast instead of the lamp. The lamp does not need cooling. Cooling the lamp is not recommended. Robe

Hi Nleong, Try to buy HPS/MH ballast brands like Vossloh Schwabe or Osram as they are German made and is definitely compatible with German MH bulbs. Robe
-
Nleong, You might want to double check as it says HPMV-MH. Thry to double confirm as HPMV might mean high pressure mercury vapor - can still be considered as metal halide but not suitable for BLV MH bulbs. MH ballast are similar to HPS or high pressure sodium and is the right ballast. HPS ballast and MH uses the same ballast type. Mercury vapor ballasts can drive the Iwasaki 6500K SE bulbs and can also run those German MH may not give the correct spectrum and lumens. Robe

JOe, you need FC2 holders and they are not easy to find in Singapore. You might want to order abroad for the holders or buy a ready made fixture. Rx7s is up to 150w DE bulbs. Robe
-
Joe,. You need FC2 holders for 250W DE bulbs. RX7s is up to 150w only Robe

I bought my bulb there as well, I think we should support them for bringing in affordable lighting fixtures and bulb without strings attached. Their bulb prices are reasonable and not excessively priced by making a decent profit but not excessive profit. I know the factory pricing for bulbs as I have enquired directly with a German distributor for lighting before. At that time Singapore (1 year ago) was not ready for bringing in large quantity of MH bulbs as market was too small then unlike now. Most of the time the LFS bulbs are sold at almost 200-300% of the costs. That tells you about the margins they're making. I hope nobody calls them up and tell them to control pricing. That's why the name has not been revealed until recently. Hopefully the LFS cartel do not convince to increase pricing. A 250w 20000K costs around 40 Euros each if buying in bulk with minimum order amount of 2000 Euros.

You need an Iwaki pump to drive it at least an MD70R or MD55R if the pipes are smaller.

Hey Joe, Are you sure you're going to be happy with it????? Go for a 3 x 3 and 22 inches height as 18 inches is just too low. Your sand bed plus clearance from the top of your tank means you only have at most 12 inches water depth (sandbed 4") You probably could live with 20 inches similar to my tank's depth but 18 inches is too low. Hmmm why not go for 3 x 4 x 2 ft??? Sure would give you a nice rock scape.......

Hi Morgan, I think you should put 1000 watters 8 inches over your tank
