  3. Hi there, Could u kindly quote the model n type of pump using cos' pics not quite clear. Thks, finbir
  4. Mun's Dispensary near Middle Road has formaldehyde for sale. But nowadays you may need a signed statement, from a shop dealing in detergent production or a doctor, to be able to buy it. The problem with formaldehyde is it can cause the specimens to yellow with time and needs to be replaced with a new qty. Besides it can cause ur fingertips to lose its feelings when in contact. Other than that it's advisable not to sniff too much of its pungent odour. It's a much safer alternative to alcohol as the latter is very, very volatile! Extaxi....
  5. Hi there, They r juv tubeworms. Had some b4 in my canister. Managed to harvest a few n grew them in my main tank. Good luck! Ricky.
  6. What I did was to use phosphate remover chemical to clean tank water after siphoning it from the tank n placing in plastic rectangular container. Mine's a 90g tank n I clean 30g at a go. The algae just die off on their own n the rocks n corals have bounced back to life. BTW this method was first mentioned n illus in detail last yr by fellow reefer Nakazoru. Cheap n good, Finbir.
  7. Its probably a type of spider crabs. Nothing to be paranoic about. Finbir.
  8. Hi there, Owned 3 of the above some yrs ago. Threw away 2 left one with only 1 switch functioning after using for less than 3 mths. Took back to local agent but was told it could not be repaired. Cost around $200 plus each. Another 'wonder' wavemaker currently on sale at around $25 plus n is from China. It adds music to ur tank after running for around 4 mths ! Paid to learn. Finbir.
  9. Best to get new one cost the impellar tends to corrode easily after usage in seawater unlike most other powerheads. Bought brand new but threw mine away after only a year - with actual usage only 5mths. Fed up, Finbir.
  10. Is it cloudy? One common cause if bubbles due to high aeration. If it's the latter, the swelling will subside after a week or more. Finbir.
  11. It's one of those tank nasties that go by the common name of fireworm (feeling the effect right?). Best thing to do is not to rub it but use a powerful vacuum to suck out the spikes. Will hurt for a few days ---if u r lucky. Next time use a set of rock movers (forcep-like thingy, cost around $25 plus) . Finbir.
  12. Hi there, 1st n foremost it needs a pretty lower temp than corals like that of the imported Maine lobsters. They do well on tiny squids (chopped or whole) offered via a satay stick as well as crabs n prererably fresh or live prawns. In the tank they tend to get stuck among the display rocks hence a bare tank save for a central column is ideal. N be prepared to hear them plonking against the glass sides (hopefully ur tank's glass is thick enough or else.....). Most times they just hang around near the surface n actinic lighting is the way to go. Don't keep them with fish or inverts. Regards, Finbir.
  13. Chem-Marin is available at Reef Depot as well as Henry's West Coast marine shop. Check it out with them. Saved my six P. ocellaris, Naso literatus , A. trimaculatus n Z. veliferum.(Using these names so u don't get the wrong fish). N.B. Had the following for almost 3 years, the Blueface angel (from juvenile), a pymygy golden angel n a H. Venustus until they fell victim to white spots when I added a Naso tang. All were eating like pigs n yet only the Naso survived. If only I'd known about Chem-Marin then. BTW I'm no salesrep of the above product. Good Day, Finbir.
  14. Hi there, Recently there've been a few postings about fishes getting 'hit' by white spots or 'ick'. Not surprising since most reefers r only too eager to add to their collection. Fishes displayed by LFS may appear to be getting along very well but try it at home n u'll soon see different ressults. Apparently they ( the fishes) will live happily in a bare tank but add some rocks n they'll start becoming territorial. Next comes the stress of being chased about n the white spots start to appear. One form of salvation is Chem-Marin. Follow the instructions carefully n u may yet save ur investment. Good luck, Finbir.
  15. Hi fren, If conditions r right, the coralline algae will appear almost within a week. Ask the Iwarna people if u bought Purple Up from them. Otherwise, even after a yr u'll still see nothing. Gd lck.
  16. Hi fren, U simply use a hacksaw to get the slit done n complete the job with a narrow wood file. Happy filing, Finbir.
  17. Hi there, Ther's a craft shop located opp the CC at Blk 201 Tampines St. 22. Going to close by end of this month (Oct.) cos' of takeover. Sells 3 types of screens. Pipes can be bot at all hardware stores selling plumbing equip. One such place is at the same block where big lorries are allowed to park near the junction opp. the neighbourhood police post. Made my own screen n been running it for 3 wks now. Use the overflow water to run n is growing the reddish brown cos' I recycled my tank water with phosphate remover recommended by Nakazoru(a fellow reefer). Enjoy every min., Finbir.
  18. Lol... adding any wavemaker to a small volume of water is akin to creating a mini-washing machine. Good day, Finbir.
  19. Hi there, The Weipro goes very well with the Eheim compact 1000 powerhead at 23w. But given its price, u r better off getting a Macro 250 skimmer which comes with a needle-wheel 31w powerhead. Currently keeping the Weipro range of skimmers 2011 to 2014 in storage. Expensive findings, Finbir.
  20. These lil' jerks r about the easiest to keep. Jus' start off with frozen brineshrimps, daphnia or mysids (available at LFS) n later they'll develop into pesky fin nippers. Typical behaviour of most of the damsel family. Have fun, Finbir.
  21. Hi, Currently I've 2 versions of the overflow box. One local made by Star Aquatics n the other is from U.S.A. Both versions are brand new n unused. Reason being that I opted for a tank with a drilled corner overflow bought 2nd hand. M living in Bedok. Good day. Finbir.
  22. Only the edges r polished not the glass surfaces. There r many ready polished ones on sale at LFS. But special ones can be ordered from CR Aquatics. Check up on Fengshui if u r particular about dimensions. Hope it helps, Finbir.
  23. Hi there, Tangs r algae scavengers. Jus buy those packaged algae at LFS, 3 types available , or use those sold at market stalls (I use the latter). Simply cut into tiny strips of about 1cm by 2mm n float in the water. Cheap n good. Finbir.
  24. Hi Achilles, Thks 4 sharing. Warmest regards, Finbir.
