No kidding and I've read up on it a few times

Ok, you have confirmed a mantis shrimp in your tank (or at least you got it out ) But do take note that their punches are so powerful, it can split your skin if you catch it with your hands and they are also known to literally shatter a tank's glass when they attack it
-
Does it look anything like this? Picture from wetwebmedia
-
I'm still going for a mantis shrimp Their eyes give them away easily
-
Cool! I'm more into the impromptu sort like "Sizzle" or "Liquid Metal" Also trying to find instructional videos for card flourishes too So far I can only do a Charlier cut Oh and do you have the address of the Funan shop?
-
It could most likely be a mantis shrimp Their eyes are mesmerising and they are one of the most feared critters you can get in your tank
-
Oh and I'm also looking at learning those metal bending mentalism tricks Those who have a DVD on it can "rent" it to me?
-
Yep, I got to know that website too and it's a good one But it's an overseas site right? Care to share how you bought the tricks?

Algae remover for sandbed - brown algae
blueheaven replied to Marinesavy's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Get a black cuke Those guys are interesting to watch and work well too -
I've also figured out how to do Wayne Houchin's "Sinful" aka Criss Angel "coin through soda can" trick. It's quite obvious if you view the preview video many times over But I've watched "Infusion" too and that is the one that got me stunned
-
You tear up a card into 4 pieces and then piece by piece, you magically join them back just by touching the joints. Here's the preview from ellusionist: http://www.ellusionist.com/order/Torn-Dani...cia.htm?cat=104

Artistes performing stunts for charity
blueheaven replied to blueheaven's topic in General Reefkeeping_
That's a good point I think they chose artistes just because we recognise them. IMO injuries are unavoidable as everything you do, even in daily life, bears an element of danger and I think injuries are normal. But the point you brought up about having many charity shows a year does take a toll on the artistes and maybe that should be another factor that has to be worked out -
I'm buying Torn by Daniel Garcia Looks like a mean trick and is sure to blow people away

Just interested to know whether any of you guys are into magic tricks? I've got quite some free time do I took up this hobby too. No revelations please
-
Yeah and after that you have to work on the nitrates already
-
Really nice bro!! (salivating already ) Did you see napoleon wrasse there? Heard from a friend you could find those there

Yes the die off from LR will start the cycle but if you want to speed it up, you got to provide more ammonia for the bacteria as if you compare the amount of die off to a piece of shrimp, it is quite evident which is more effective right? I don't really believe in the bacteria solutions but on the whole, the bacteria in the LR is quite adequate already as they reproduce fast. (E. coli, a type of bacteria studied in Life Science, doubles it's population every 20 mins)

This probably had to be a hot topic in various forums now. So what is your view on this? Here's mine: I believe the "theory" behind artistes performing for charity shows comes from buskers who perform in the streets for a living (you often see those in chinese dramas). Although I have to agree that in the past year, artistes had done several dangerous stunts for these shows but in recent years, the stunts had toned down to a rather acceptable standard. I had also heard many people say that instead of doing stunts, charity shows could hold concerts instead but if you look at the previous charity shows which had foreign artistes sing and dance, the response of the public is not as much as local artistes performing stunts. For me, I'd also prefer to watch artistes performing stunts as these are more "capturing". In the recent Ren Ci charity show, it sparked a series of controversies that range from "manipulating viewers" to the tears of Venerable Ming Yi. But from what I see in the whole show, especially from the performance by the Venerable, it is neither too exerting to him nor is it a move to "manipulate viewers" to donate. The fact that the Venerable is willing to do such a stunt (under much safety precautions) for the patients is already proof of his determination and sincerity. I mean, nobody paid him tens of thousands of dollars in risk of him being traumatised by the performance and nobody pointed a gun at him, forcing him to do it. The only reason for this act is to give entertainment to viewers so that they will call in to donate. I believe it is a psycological thing as more people will call as the stunts gets more exciting and difficult. So I do not see why artistes should not perform stunts for charity shows to entertain viewers to donate as long as the stunts are safe. I believe that charity shows could only be successful as long as they have these two things in check: 1) Never give cash or prizes to callers in the form of a "raffle" 2) Stunts performed can be difficult but must be safe So what is your views on this?

What about cycling? Did the shop just add NSW and put the LS in?
-
Woah nice!!! Any more?
-
Yeah I think it's the lightings too I've got a brown with orange mouth one that changed to baby blue with pink mouth when i switched to 250w MH
-
You can add a piece of prawn and let it decompose instead of buying the ammonia solution. For cycling, it should be done once it does through 3 stages. 1) Ammonia goes up 2) Ammonia comes down, nitrite goes up 3) Nitrite goes down, nitrate goes up Once you have tested that ammonia and nitrite is undetectable, then your cycle is finished Hope that helps

Better to go to a doctor quick!!! I've seen people who got poisoned by unknown spikes till the area actually starts to develop gangreen

You might want to get a fish trap to catch it out

Fish Only With DEAD ROCKS (FOWDR)
blueheaven replied to Elune's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
IMO, I'd rather go for FOWDR (sounds nice) than a FOWLR The reason being mainly on algae issues. Considering that a fish only system is going to have lots of fish, the nitrate level is definately going to be on the high side. And this is especially so with beginners who are not willing to invest in big skimmers or have the time to do regular water changes. If you use LR, chances are that you will get a diatom bloom and all sorts of different algae blooms. This can be quite discouraging as the tank will look "dirty" and the reefer probably gives up. But one big disadvantage of dead rocks is that all the good bacteria that we want are also absent but I believe that can be re-established using commercial bacteria additives. So LR or DR, it all depends on the reefer himself
