  1. I did stop the thread for a reason. Its pointless for you to create a part 2 to this whole thing. Yes, I know many ae concerned about the funds involved and yes, I know many want more detailed explanations. But just take a minute to think about it, are we selfish? Look at how much we are spending on our tanks every month from buying corals to upgrading equipments, and now I am only doing a project to help in research and conservation of corals and everyone makes a big fuss about it. I myself am footing in a lot of my own money for this project itself and I already made it clear that I will find sponsors for my project. As I am still in the planning stage, I cannot provide too detailed information as we have not gone into the details yet as the project will start in 2006 Although some suggestions by some reefers here I have taken into account, I don't see the need to carry on this discussion as it is going nowhere. I will formally create a new thread when the time is ripe and my proposals are finalised. At that time, I would certainly welcome any pinpoints but not now. And once again, I am not the only one running this project and yes like a bro mentioned earlier, my teachers would not be so stupid to grant me funds when my project is going nowhere. So please stop this once and for all and let us carry on with our normal functions of SRC
  2. IMO, forget the denitrator. Its so hard to tune and when you tune it wrongly, you have to restart again
  3. Don't think its a baby coco worm as a close up would show many tiny white eggs
  4. Actually the trick to setting up a DSB is to create an "anoxic" region whereby its drastically deprived of oxygen but not totally anaerobic. A successful DSB doesn't need any cleaning on that part as the infauna will do the job and there would not have any hydrogen sulphide production as there are no anaerobic areas. Although a DSB must be as big as possible, I opted for an in-sump sandbed as ot will be easier to monitor the progress. And for those who want sand in your tank, you can still have an inch or two of it
  5. From my experience, have high Mg, Ca and Sr levels and use longer durations of actinics
  6. Wow if its an acan lord then you got yourself a gem bro But from what I observed, acans do not have a stony skeleton do they?
  7. Actually i was thinking, what could be the potential problems with keeping a DSB for long term say like 4-5 years? I mean if you can maintain it well for a few years, why not long term?
  8. And last pic for the day, here's a rhodactis I cut today Hope it'll grow soon
  9. Enough of the main tank, lets proceed to the sump Spotted a string of eggs on the glass today Wonder what that is? And got an algae bloom Time to change contra
  10. Here's the brain that had slight receeding. Now redder and centre had become green and the "flesh" had grown back from the receeded part
  11. Just moved my teardrop to a new position to make way for the squamosa Today doing better and mantles spread out nicely
  12. You can see the colour contrast in this pic
  13. Yeah take good care of it and it'll recover My prata was also a little bleached from my PLs but recovered under my MH
  14. Yeah finally someone understood my situation. THE PLAN IS NOT FINALISED YET!!!!!!! Someone obviously called up the school and now the Principal has to clarify things here I really hope that next time, do not post useless posts and blow up the whole thing and worse still add oil to the flame. If you have any comments or objections, please PM me instead and we can converse privately.
  15. For the last time, PLEASE bear in mind that I am still working on this project and within this 2 years, many changes will arise so what ever I have posted here are just some tentative plans. So as we are getting WAY off topic, I shall ask the moderators to detele the thread until the time is ripe.
  16. Actually infauna mostly originates from the rocks you place in your sump Unless we can ensure rapid reproduction going on, we're gonna need recharging every few months or so And yeah the difference between the two phrases are the way I phrase them
  17. To reply to bro Ancelot, Infauna is not macroalgae but actually refers to the small animals you find in the sandbed itself. It is these infauna that actually cleans the bed from detritus and also slowly shifts the sand to prevent the creation of a totally anaerobic region. And as for my experiment, I only used some sand and some small pieces of LR in a covered tube. But its not the production of the black stuff that is decreased but the amount of black stuff decreased significantly.
  18. Seems like the orange pratas are coming in Maybe I'll get one after I got enough funds from CNY Still looking for a kole tang Any LFS around the east area got them?
  19. Well that's why we need the infauna to act as "toilet cleaners" in our DSBs
  20. Well actually I believe the funtionality of a DSB is still not known up to date and most of us are still unable to maintain a DSB for very long periods as we lack recharge kits, the most important item of all. I have done an experiment on the effects of creating a totally anaerobic condition and I am surprised that a hell lot of hydrogen sulphide is produced. But what interests me most is that when air is introduced to the setup, after a few days, the black stuff cleared a little. But anyway, I'm still monitoring the setup for a few more days to see of there's any changes. Going back to DSBs, there are many known setups with long term success so it brings back the question of whether we are doing it wrongly. Of course we can still rely on our godly skimmers to do the job of removing suspended detritus but speaking of zooplankton population, it certainly does not serve this purpose
  21. Ok here's the green yuma with the orange rim
  22. The whole point of why my statements are now still quite vague is because it is going to start in 2006 and the team is still working on the details and contacts. If its going to start like next year, of course all these are insufficient to run the project. And the reason I am starting this in 2006 is because I have my "O" levels next year and I can't afford too much time spent on this.
