Yes, I agree. You should get a new sump with bigger area for the sandbed if you are going to do biological filtration

It will definately not be enough of you are thinking of setting up a DSB. DSB should at least be 3/4 the size of your tank with sand up to 4 inches deep And I can see that some of your macros are starting to die, probably because of insufficient light or other trace elements
