  1. I don't know whether it's the school work or what but I am quite muddle headed these few days. Remember I said that my kH reading was 3.5dKH? Well, that was in low resolution mode and so in actual fact, it is 7dKH Have just checked it again and it has increased to 8dKH already
  2. Glad you understood bro decentkid And I forgot to take the tank shot today as I came home at 7pm after 3 extra lessons!!!! (sorry jem ) Something is horribly wrong in my system as my kH fell to around 3dKH Have since added another dose of 12g of Seachem Reef Builder and lowered my CR effluent to a drop per 2 seconds Hope conditions will improve tomorrow
  3. Generally yes. And it comes with a package of free gametes and nutrients
  4. Well, if you have noticed in Biology practicals, we do add sodium hydrogen carbonate to provide the CO2 needed for photosynthesis. Therefore, I concluded that the growth of the chaeto will cause a drop in kH And other types of soluble carbonates include potassium hydrogen carbonate (alkaline) and calcium hydrogen carbonate (CR effluent). Of course there are many more to the list...
  5. Haha...after all the studying, I threw all my biology knowledge back to teacher already
  6. Spot on bro!! That's why I think that the content in SRC is too monotonous. There are many many many interesting stuff about reefkeeping to be discussed on!!!
  7. Did you watch the Fear Factor Top 10 yesterday??? Full tank shot coming your way tomorrow evening
  8. Haha...thanks for making the effort to go through this tedious process Anyway, was studying too much for tests that I did not really monitor the water quality and guess what? kH had actually fell to 5dKH!!! No wonder my SPS had stagnated in growth these few days I think that the carbonates are being used up by the chaeto during its growth which resulted in the decreasing value I have since increased my CR bubble rate to a bubble a second and dosed about 12g of Seachem Reef Builder today. Will monitor the kH values tomorrow. All other parameters remain the same
  9. In other words, its the caulerpa turning asexual When they do that, they pollute the water with their gametes and worse still, it results in massive die-off, releases toxins and nutrients. That's why you see ppl having their tank crash because of caulerpa
  10. If you can maintain it well, a refugium provides a a steady supply of natural food like pods and shrimps and the macroalgae and sandbed tackles the nutrients in your system. And you can also nurse injured corals and fishes there
  11. Finally some constructive comments are in... I would want to organise these meetings but currently, I am constrained by 2 factors. Firstly, I am still a student and would not have the knowledge and experience to host such big gatherings. Secondly, I am taking my major exams this year and due to the much increased workload, I cannot spend time on this. I would also want to bring our views to ozy's post that many reefers are not aware of SRC. According to what he said, it does sound quite interesting to know that someone has success by just using an airstone isn't it? And I do have a long long long break after the exams so we'll see what I can do.
  12. I did something which I would regret my whole life!!! Was very hungry today after a day's schooling so I opened the freezer and saw these wonderful stuff which I presumed was chocolate. I picked one up and took a bite Let me tell you, it is the most digusting thing I had ever eaten!!! It then came to me that these were bro Gouldian's special blend, super potent fish food!!
  13. Come on guys, cool down and relax The thing here is that I am just stating a suggestion for our club to improve Firstly, Anthony did say that during the closing down of our booth and I am sure those present would agree with what he said. And bro Diabolus, I am not only hinting that the meetings conducted are not official but in actual fact it isn't. I am looking at at least a meeting every month to visit member's tanks and sit down and discuss about reefkeeping. I am sure many of us have lots to tell And my focal point of new reefkeeping methods is not the sugar stuff but more of like Zeovit and cryptic refugiums or even new photography techniques. I do agree with ciaolong that SRC will begin to become boring after a while as ppl are asking the same thing all over again. I believe that the main idea of SRC is not only to help out new reefers but also more importantly to promote responsible reefkeeping. And as for meetings, I am sure that although not everyone can attend one but it would be great to hold large scale frag swaps and raffles. After all that, I would also want to sincerely ask that posters try to refrain to using words which are too insulting or aggresive. I started this thread just so that ppl can share their views on the suggestions stated or give their own suggestion. Something like if you do not want meetings, why not and if you do want meetings, how do you want it to be. Lets not compicate things here and keep this thread clean onwards ok?
  14. Keep the comments coming guys Anyway, yes I do hope to organise meetings but I cannot organise official meetings until the mods and AT have agreed. And yes, I am aware of the advanced reefkeeping forum but what I meant was that since everyone else is asking almost the same questions repeatedly, it had sort of defeated our purpose as a club. Check out other overseas reefing societies and you will know what I mean. Anthony Calfo had also somehow "warned" us that if we are not going to bond together as a reef club, it would most certainly be detrimental. I do have hopes and ambitions for the reef club not just to educate new hobbyists who have just started this wonderful hobby but also to further discuss much more interesting topics, some which none of us have tried before
  15. Guys, SRC is in its third year now and we have gone through calm and rough times. I think it is time for us to move on from a forum where beginners ask questions and the experienced answer them. Let us move on to discussing controversial reefkeeping methodologies and more of topics that call for discussion and not just question and answer. And I do hope that regular club meetings would materialise so as to bring the standard of reefkeeping in Singapore to a higher level
  16. Err...I think we are drifting off the topic....
  17. Too lazy to source for a proper fitting to do the carbon filter. Looked around the house and found a perfect fit
  18. You think that's huge? Check out Riodan's Quattro!!!! Anyway, nive setup you have there Teo
  19. Haha...ok I will give you a frag once its settled down and started growing
  20. For those who asked, I paid 20 bucks for it Don't ask where
  21. Refugiums are good only when you know how to set them up properly and maintain them. A refugium which incorporates a sandbed is even harder but its benefits are to be seriously considered
