Go for 2 inches instead You will find some sand being shifted after some time by fishes and currents

Understanding SPS Light Requirements
blueheaven replied to acura007's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
It is quite interesting to note that as the previous thought is that the more yellow the bulb is, the fater the growth and the contrary is said to experience slower growth. So what we are saying here is that blue bulbs not only can bring out the colour but also promote growth in SPS? -
All in all, captive propagation is still the best. You save the reefs and you get smaller sized corals for a smaller price. Who wants huge corals anyway?

I came up with this monster beckett by daydreaming

The turbulence reducer would be similar to BK only that I am going to use a cone with countersunk holes rather than the tube that BK has -
The charge theory, its like the ozone right? Placing an electrostatic charge on the bubbles to attract the DOC

Haha another aspiring coral farmer like me Some tips for you: Use natural lighting- it's good and cheap Monitor the site for the motion of the sun- you do not want to have a big tree shading your farm Do monocultures- As some colonies grow faster without the prescence of other corals Prepare for a high capital investment- You cannot afford to skimp Have good ventilation- saves on chilling costs As for the rainwater part, I do not really advise even a single drop of it. Rainwater contains carbonic acid, sulphuric acid and nitric acid and can affect the water parameters. You want your SPS to grow fast so you need good water parameters. Go read Anthony Calfo's Book of coral propagation

Newly revised design Added the turbulence reducer but don't know whether it'll work on a beckett Any comments? -
Its a bad world out there, that's what my SS teacher is trying to bring to us I understand

Then you'll start thinking of BB

For example can come check out my coralline encrusted sandbed I still can't believe the cucumber cannot digest these

Yeah probably so but what is business without ethics? So I do not need to care so much as long as cash flows in? From my current maturity, I see it as a bad attitude rather than business strategy
-
Yeah that's why you see I wanted to make a stubby looking beckett Some questions though: How is it that the BK can have so much air suction? Having the turbulence reduction plate with the countersunk holes wouldn't make the bubbles bigger since there are only limited space for the bubbles to exit?
-
Just wondering what is it of the BK that makes it so effective? Other than the titanium needlewheels, could it be that it focusses on the low turbluence, small bubbles method? I have noticed that as compared to a Beckett, which had high turbulence and large bubbles because of the swirling inside the reaction chamber, a Beckett mostly produced dry skimmate which settles as mud on the neck. Whereas for the BK, the skimmate is almost overflowing and not as dry. So what do you think? What is the special part of the BK's design?

I personally feel that this sort of activity very disturbing This not only show how "cheap" some people can be to stoop so low for some cash. As much as we want to get relatively inexpensive corals, we must also look into the future of the hobby. Just imagine if more of this smuggling activity goes on and deplete the reefs, how are we going to maintain our hobby? By captive propagation? By then, the pricing would jack up even more due to the high demand Furthermore, most of these smugglers do not have proper packaging for the corals they bring in and the mortality rate is high. This is evident in wild SPS shipments where whole colonies are just packed in layers of plastic bags as compared to the aquacultured ones which are hung upside down to prevent the slime from killing the specimen Reefers should and must avoid such retailers with their uncouth ways so as to prevent such incidents from happening again. Just imagine how long it takes to grow back another coral of the same size. Probably 10-20 years. I therefore appeal to ALL reefers to stop purchasing from these people and also stop purchasing dyed corals. That small decrease in price does not guarantee quality and will definately not pay off in the future

Reefers unite against unscrupulous dishonest...

I'll look more closely when I go LFSing later But how could anyone make away with so many seahorses at once? Scooping all up into the pail is too suspicious for any other discerning reefers. Or is it the whole package was stolen before they unpack? -
Hi guys, I got a purple base greenish brown polyp digitata frag for trade Interested pls post our offers here

Any skimmate pics?

Haha better check the plug first right DE?
