  1. It is really affordable IMO Even less expensive than some commercial ones available
  2. Mangroves are good in a sense that you have a lot of life appearing in your tank. It cannot be used as an efficient nutrient export as they grow incredibly slowly and require bright lights. If you have a huge tub and can afford to plant about 10 seedlings, you have to plant them in mud.
  3. I am still considering but more veered towards the Beckett BK Anyway, I did a small mod to my current skimmer be adding a plastic tube at the top so that the foam flows down Working nicely so far
  4. Ok, I have 2 skimmers in my consideration now One is the monster Beckett BK Another is the Deltec AP850 What a hard decision to make. I better focus on my studies first and then I can ponder all I want
  5. What was it of your CR that prevents choking That time you tell me I had forgotten already Sorry to borrow this thread
  6. post Please stay on topic fellas. We're talking about amino acids here. SRC Mods
  7. The purple polyp one is way cool man Here's my contribution
  8. This guys are the nicest SPS I have And better still, they grow EXTREMELY fast!!!
  9. And Happy Centennial to me I have joined the 100 pages club Wish to thank all of you guys who have commented in this thread and also for viewing this thread for 60,000+ times
  10. I shifted this guy higher to colour it up Not only did it become a nice purple, the polyps turned purple too!!
  11. This acro specimen had RTNed because my dad changed the Tunze to blow directly at it. But I did save a few frags though And Joe these are the ones I am talking about
  12. Ok, some updates Here's the bleached humilis which could not withstand the change from 150w to 250w It is recovering though, you can see it had encrusted on the rock and the colour is coming back
  13. Those worms actually bore large holes in the colony any is more of a parasite. You will find the colony in stress and they can actually reproduce and spread to other colonies
  14. I am not that sure with the UV but as for CO2, you'll only need it for a calcium reactor. As you pump CO2 into a calcium reactor, it becomes carbonic acid which reacts with the CaCO3 media to produce CaHCO3 or calcium hydrogencarbonate. Hope that helps
  15. That's why it is good to know roughly where a certain specimen may be found by its distribution and maybe colour. I mean you can't possibly place a deepwater acro 3 inches away from 6.5k lights right?
  16. Just to let you know DB, that Compulsive Buying Disorder is a non-treatable illness so you can only curb it for a certain period of time Once the virus becomes immune to medication, you will start visiting the LFSes again Trust me on that
  17. No choice la but if I pick up a job during my holiday maybe I'll be able to afford a Deltec
  18. Good inputs piglet. I would also support the genuine manufacturers but DIY is not merely copying the design wholesale. As you can see I did some modifications to some parts in the skimmer diagram I had drawn. But let us put that aside since we are still discussing about the unique features of a BK
  19. You think so too? I scared later come back become "ren yao" Anyway, the mian reason for me to hate the Beckett
  20. Denitrators are hard to tune and are for those who are dedicated to mintor it well or else you risk getting poisoned by the toxic H2S produced if wrongly tuned
