  1. oic, thanks WL for clarifying Would anticipate the DE version too
  2. Thought this was supposed to be a rhodactis thread
  3. Can I come too? Hope it;s on a weekend
  4. Thought there were heat issues regarding the lumenarcs?
  5. Anyone making the order? I'll be interested if anyone starts an order. Well, anyway, in my search for clean up crews to finish off my remaining algae, I got a Sally Lightfoot crab Now I just hope it'll be good and not touch my SPS or fishes (it crawled over my mille table when I released it )
  6. Yep, I remember when my school's NPCC unit went for TAG paintball, some of us picked up some pellets to keep as souvenirs and we were forced to empty out pockets and even made oath to the Singapore flag that we do not possess any ammunition
  7. Are those the colonies you got at PR? Very nice And the deepwater acro frag I found was a A. rosaria and it is starting to develop a greenish hue
  8. Lumenarcs are going to be available for DE soon as weileong said in another thread But the heat issues of the lumenarcs cannot be underestimated. I have read that the heat produced, if not vented or blown by a fan, can actually raise a room from its normal temperature of an average 26 degrees to 30+ degrees. Venting would be difficult to set up and fans might mean more plugs needed. I've also seen tanks with lumenarcs running Hamilton 14k and it looks rather nice
  9. Caulerpa if you have not read about it yet, is the most toxic marine plant you can put into your tank. The toxins it releases is known to deter coral growth especially in SPS and mature crops have also known to cause excessive yellowing of water. Not to mention, once they mature in 3 months, they will start going vegetative and releases all of it's absorbed nutrients en masse into your system, overloading any form of filtration. If you want to have macroalgae in a refugium, go for plants like ulva, chaetomorpha and halimeda
  10. That tenuis is really nice But your photo had too much contrast and try to focus on the front part and and use a larger depth of field
  11. I received this card from my vice principal and on it bears a really inspirational story which I think every reefer should think about As the old man walked the beach at dawn, he noticed a boy ahead of him picking up starfish and flinging them into the sea. Finally catching up with the boy, he asked why he was doing this. The answer was that the stranded starfish would die if left until the morning sun. "But the beach goes on for miles and there are hundreds of starfish" said the old man. "How can your effort make any difference?" The boy looked at the starfish in his hand and then threw it safely in the waves. "It makes a difference to this one" he said.
  12. Bandit, you have earned my praise Thanks for your really constructive comment and I appreciate it You are right, meetings should be a routine and I hope it'll become a routine for the reefers. But I am compelled to the worry that if we have small group meetings, we might encounter the problem of cliques. I am looking at how reefers from other countries have their meetings and I try to emulate a few pointers from there. We must bond not in terms of small groups but as a whole, as a club. That is why you see me using the reefer's direct names in my comments if I know them as it feels more "informal" and cosy rather than calling his/her nick. Of course, you wouldn't want everyone to call you bandit all the time do you? Well, anyway, meetings should be educational and although this time round I am getting foreign reefers to come, I truely hope that in subsequent meetings, we can have our own members give a talk or a workshop. Bonding is pivotal in our development as a reef club and it solves many problems ranging from misunderstandings and clique chatting. And who knows, maybe in the years to come, we might be involved in reef saving projects Of course, it is good to have a group of reefing friends to visit the LFS, exchange frags and chat with but as a whole, the idea of club meetings will still hold a more important role for the development of the club
  13. It's not that serious as compared to a sea apple I've got around 20 moonsnails and 20 euplica scripta in my tank
  14. They eat algae of course!! Only cons I can think of is that they are like nitrate bombs when they die, especially at a place where you can't reach Bigger the snail, bigger the bomb
  15. Man, I just ordered mine from one of our sponsors Anyway, if the stock does not come in the next few days, I'm going to bail Daniel, I'm with your idea of a direct bulk order Anyone starting?
  16. This is almost equivalent to saying that green plants will have low photosynthesis level in green light as it reflects green light. But not all SPS colours come from the zooxathellae alone. Some is produced as protection against UV light And I believe, to a certain extent that SPS can change to suit their conditions. Its like blasting a green SPS with green light, so they'll change to absorb the other spectrum of light instead. I've seen frags from the same colonies turn out differently in different reefer's tanks under different light spectrums
  17. Just noticed my Aquaz T5 tube had almost burned out and it is way dimmer than the CoralBlue and flickers in the centre. Seems like I need to change the tube soon. I'll be getting D-D AquaBlue Plus
  18. Super blue tenuis This is 5" from 250w 14k Phoenix Trying to get one of these from a reefer
  19. Jesus's Royal Blue tenuis This is 8" under 250w 10k
  20. Hispida from Coral Fantasy This is 6" under 250w Phoenix bulbs
  21. This mostly happens when you cut them But I would handle them with gloves on if I were you
  22. Sump - It is a water reservoir to increase the total volume of water and can be put to different functions such as a refugium or a place to put all your equipments IOS - If I'm not wrong, it means internal overflow system and the overflow box is used to bring water down to the sump. Canister - These only provide mechanical filtration and is not recommended to be the sole filtration to use as the trapped detritus will decompose and add nutrient into your tank
  23. Man, I'm still contemplating whether to go or not Hmm, wonder what's in store for SPS
  24. I see that the chaeto is doing well Upz for you
