  1. Yes star polyps (note spelling) do grow extremely fast and are also known to smother corals when they grow excessively. Even xenias grow on tank glass and other strange places. In Anthony Calfo's book, he has a picture of a xenia growing on a snail
  2. Haha just a few new frags here and there I'm thinking that since there's a shipment coming this week, why not we hold a frag growing competition. We get about 3-4 guys and frag a colony into similar sized frags and measure the length. We grow them in our tanks for 2 months and the person who can grow it the fastest can get a frag each from the other people
  3. Milleporas can be classified as tabling although I have seen a few that extend from a base rather than extend out into a table like a hyacinthus I can show you a pic tomorrow of a millepora I have that is growing in a table form
  4. That's an interesting hypothesis Ian Although I am not very sure, but I think the bacterial activity in sandbeds are not sufficient to lower pH to the extent of reacting with the calcium phosphate. It might happen in very small, totally anaerobic areas but as you said, the precipitation is not substantial so given that, the process might be so insignificant, it might be negligible to say that it actually has an impact on our reefs.
  5. Thanks bro Edwan I'm still waiting for the Phoenix to burn in which I expect it to be whiter And I've decided to make a tenuis garden
  6. Basically, it's the hydrolysis of fat molecules by an alkali (in this case, calcium hydroxide) to form soap which the skimmer takes away as the foam collected in the skimmer's cup
  7. Yes that's true and do you know that kalkwasser actually aids skimming through saponification?
  8. Woohoo, will be awaiting your arrival
  9. Haha I want to put his products on the pic but I didn't take any individual shots of them and i can't find any pics here Well anyway, got my Phoenix and my chiller fixed already Mr Kwok from Pacific Coo gives really good professional service by the way he could detect the problem almost immediately and spend such little time fixing it I give him 2 thumbs up for his products and service Ok, so here's how my tank looks now under the Phoenix
  10. In coordination to Keith's tribute to RM, here's mine
  11. Hehe If Joe has a newer design and is bigger than my current one, I might consider
  12. I'm not sure cause I still don't feel that kick with my current one in terms of bubble size and quantity Read that a MD55 is the best pump to drive a beckett and anything above it is overdriving Maybe I should wait for Joe to finish his service and consult him
  13. Yeah my new Pacific Coo broke down Well anyway, was thinking whether I should upgrade my skimmer's pump
  14. Seems like luck is not shining my way Just when I was so excited to get the Phoenix today, my chiller broke down Now waiting for the repair man to fix it
  15. Haha same experience with faulty chiller as me From what I see expect to see SPS discolouration but they'll come back when you turn on your lights for a few days
  16. Hi guys, I suddenly got the urge to upgrade my skimmer's pump to a MD55. I'll be willing to pay $50-80 or trade in my MD40 with a top up of not more than $40 Anyone selling can PM me
  17. Haha wait till tomorrow when I get the Phoenix The colours look a little washed out because the Aquablue is crisp white Here's a sneak peek at my tank just a few minutes ago under only the Aquablue Plus and CoralBlue tubes The Aquablue is in front and the CoralBlue is behind. No exposure compensation and no edit No wonder Daniel can keep his SPS nice under these BTW, I apologise for the bad pic as I am using a 1 megapixel camera for this
  18. Just got my T5 tube It's really nice, the colour is crisp and it is definately bright
  19. All in all, if you want to do your part in saving reefs and keep this hobby alive for the years to come, support captive propagation and aquaculture.
  20. And Keith, I found this in RC which looked like the frag I requested Only yours had purple polyps
  21. Haha wait till your new tank is set up la Well anyway, today was a disappointment. Was supposed to get the Phoenix bulbs but the company said that it is in their store and I had to wait till Wednesday. This is not their fault as I only called them up today And I was also supposed to receive delivery of the D-D Aquablue Plus tube today but Edmund SMSed to say that he is busy with some "project" Rather displeased with their service though as on their site it states that it will be delivered in 2-3 working days and it has been more than a week since I ordered
  22. Same sentiments here It's a trend now and most sellers hope to sell it for more than when it is bought And of course there are those who think it is trendy to do this
