  1. Brown frags? Seriously, I can't really find any brown ones other than the valida frags Anyway, was away the whole day from early morning till late at night for 3 days and when I came back today, I noticed my skimmer had clogged up!!! Switched on my lights and guess what? Half of my front glass is covered in some brown algae!!!! Now, I know the importance of my skimmer, gonna upgrade soon
  2. Tomorrow? Call Joe in if he is free, got to pass him his sticks too Arrange with you in the morning, very tired now....
  3. Don't really understand what you mean by the weipro part but the only downside of the needlewheel is that it is not cheap if you are talking about the good ones. And for Beckett, although it uses a strong pump, those magnet ones like MD55 do not add any heat to the water as it is fan cooled. In fact, if compared to a needlewheel, the needlewheel might add more heat to the water than a Beckett
  4. Well if it was a rainbow coloured, reef safe and rare fish, I might consider But a black coloured tang? These guys must be nuts
  5. Did you check out the tank with 3 plasmas by CR Aquarium during Aquarama?
  6. I agree with this That is what is happening to me now Well anyway, I'm still a true believer of running 2 skimmers for the best results
  7. It depends on what type of macroalgae you use If you are using caulerpa, better run it 24/7
  8. AquaC is using its own patented spray injection method
  9. But seriously, I don't see the purpose of bidding. If the item put on bid is uncommon and there is a demand for it, I might consider. But if you put stuff that can be bought at the LFS or are common, what is the intention of bidding? So that the seller can earn a few bucks? Have you ever seen a bowl of noodles on bid starting at $0.10 in an auction before?
  10. The CL450 might be a little underpowered for your tank size Chillers do take in a lot of power you know?
  11. Some good skimmers need not be big and expensive For in sump models, I still prefer the AquaC skimmers
  12. Basically, an overdose of iodine causes a rapid increse in ORP levels and you'll see brown algae starting to grow. As for strontium, there's not much of a sign other than good coralline growth
  13. Gonioporas are very difficult to keep and require nutrient laden water Although there's some recent breakthrough in keeping them, they still require expert care
  14. I don't see the price for a black fish just because it is rare I might as well spend it on some nicer fish like anthias
  15. For me, my skimmer skims out product day and night Skimmers not only help to remove DOC but also improve oxygen saturation in the water as well as degassing off gases. In fact, a skimmer is said to help in the pH drop during the night by degassing off excess CO2
  16. The iodine we dose is rapidly taken away from skimming so the levels do fluctuate a lot
  17. Becketts are venturi BTW, different types of skimmers take out different stuff so it's difficult to test. Best is to employ 2 skimmers of different methods I have my Beckett as my main skimmer and a simple airstone one in my refugium to clean up what is not taken away by the beckett
  18. And this is my non-tabling mille There's a visible base and it grows upwards
  19. This is my tabling type mille It doesn't have a visible base and grows horizontally like a monti cap
  20. From my point of view, Beckett is more suitable for large systems with heavy bioloads as the turnover rate is high as compared to needlewheels. Needlewheels on the other hand, has its advantages of consistent bubble production and run on lesser power than the Beckett. However, if you are not willing to spend that much on a quality needlewheel, you might be faced with the problem of the needlewheel spokes breaking and the replacement is not worth it.
  21. Just a point for you to note, test kits for these elements are still very inaccurate and I would consider them redundant. For these 2 elements, there are natural signs that indicate an overdose so you might as well save up the cash.
  22. pH drop at night is due to the carbon dioxide produced from the respiration of the organisms in our tanks. The carbon dioxide react with water to form carbonic acid which lowers pH. It then rises during the day when various photosynthetic organisms photosynthesize and take in the dissloved carbon dioxide in the water. Of course, buffers do play a part too but it'll be difficult to explain. And back to the topic, I have checked and found that calcium phosphate in weak acids, you'll get dihydrogen phosphate ions H2PO4 instead of phosphate ions. So this means that acidity in sandbeds would not cause phosphate to leech back into the system but instead you'll get dihydrogen phosphate. However, since the precipitate would most probably settle at the topmost layers of the sand, I doubt it will even react since the pH will drop only in the bottom layers
  23. Legal? Think it should be if the cost is split Anyway, your tank looks rather packed now so I guess you won't be going to shipments?
