So far I've checked, Ngee Ann poly has a diving club And Temasek poly has an adventure club that includes diving Yeah bowling is safe unless you try a helicopter on a 16 pound ball
-
You mean those overhead filter? You could put some wool in them and probably a bag of carbon And remember to change out the wool as soon as it gets brownish as you do not want it to turn into a nitrate factory

GARF keeps their xenias under VHO I think But there is more than lights to successfully keep xenia
-
3 weeks!! The one I saw was only 6 days It included 2 theory, 2 pool and 4 dives Well anyway, I've worked it out with my parents already. I'll take it up in poly when I join a cca that has diving At the meantime, I just got myself a new bowling ball

Try getting those food supplements that entice the fish to eat And maybe you can try different types of food such as cabbage, nori, etc

Oh I just remembered that I've forgotten to add in something very important in the workshop. Propagation is the single greatest way an aquarist can contribute to the conservation of reefs and keeping this hobby sustainable. I hope that the skills that are learnt in this workshop would be later taught to the future generations of aquarists, so that they can contribute as well. Pay it forward

I think MH is a little too much for a xenia Xenias are mostly a hit or miss If you have the conditions that suit it, it grows and spreads like a weed but if you do not have the conditions it requires, it will just simply waste away

Achilles tangs are considered as one of the more difficult to keep fishes If you want to ensure that your tang is healthy, here's a few pointers for you: 1) Give it lot's of swimming space (at least 4ft length) 2) Make sure it eats 3) Enrich it's food with garlic or get commercial pellets food that includes garlic 4) Quarantine the fish and acclimatise it carefully 5) Have good flow in your tank Hope this helps

Nice tubeworms I like the natural looking way you place them!!!

Wishing all in SRC a very happy new year!!!

Haha Anthony will be the real master Anyway, what about the other guys? Are your frags doing well?
-
I think I'll be focussing on SPS growth now since most of my SPS are still considered as frags I'm trying to make my reef as bulletproof as I can
-
Thanks bro but finding the course should not be a problem for me DA: What happened? Why almost cause everyone into trouble
-
Haha Singapore dive at P. Hantu only $280 I'm looking at going to Aur or Tioman for it but I probably can't find a friend to go What you said quite true also... I remember AT said that skali you partner with gorilla with peanut brain, scared of water then gabra and then put your life at risk You 1 year older than me only, maybe we can be great dive buddies once I finish the course
-
I would like to get some friends but I think their parents might be even more against it than me. Besides, the basic course already costs around $200-$300 so I guess I'll go alone (if I ever take it up) But do you guys think that the diving course is suitable for someone my age to attend alone?

I'm considering taking up diving instead of collecting cobwebs at home during my free time. But my parents are kind of worried as they say it is dangerous and does not like the idea of me going overseas unchaperoned. So what do you divers think? Based on your experience, do you think diving bears a good extent of danger or is it just a common misconception?

Oh and I almost forgot, I found 5 nudis on my purple monti cap last night when the lights are out!!! I was so furious that I picked them up using a toothpick and dumped them into a plastic cup. Poured in a cupful of fresh kalkwasser and see them squirm in pain
-
Maybe on the T5s but not on the MH I'm so afraid of the whole thing exploding that I switch it on manually Oh ya, my chiller pump got toasted yesterday which sent electric currents into the water. So I rushed down to AquaMarin with my dad (thank god they open so late) to get an Ehiem pump. Can't afford it to fail on me again

I don't have actinics now as I run only a 20k tube and an AquaBlue Plus Somehow I think more blue will make my SPS look nicer

Minimal equipment for a reef tank
blueheaven replied to cyberpig's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Sure! In poorer quality rocks, they usually are mostly dead already and it is obvious especially when they look a drab brown. The problem with these rocks is that they have not gone through proper curing and have crabs, worms, algae, etc on them. If you want a FOWLR, the reefer might want to consider killing these rocks to remove any unwanted hitchhikers and kill algae spores. This is especially so if the reefer does not want his/her tank to have a diatom bloom which is totally unsightly and without "up to standard" filtration, the nitrates will cause the rocks to have a massive algae bloom. But for reef tanks, good quality rocks are needed and these are already cured without crabs or algae (except coralline). Furthermore, when you kill the rocks for a FOWLR, the beneficial bacteria in the rocks are also gone so they serve no filtration purposes. But for a good reef setup, these bacteria in the rocks are crucial to maintain a highly effective nitrogen filter. So basically, for a FOWLR, you'll only need a tank, a skimmer, moderate lights, dead rocks and some synthetic salt. Occasional additions of "ice bottles" would do some good too. Hope this helps -

Oh I see everything's doing great!!! Hope my demonstration was of some help into this interesting (though a little disgusting) activity to add some zest into our hobby
-
For me, I start off with just the surface media moving but as time goes on, I increase the flow up to the point where all the media is suspended. Well, what can you expect when you drive it using half a MD55

A beckett can cost anywhere from $300+ to $800+ The running cost might be around $20 or so
