did a slight change to the design. i wonder whether the chemical filtration chamber will reduce the risk of a DSB crash. since my DSB is after the chemical filters and macroalgae, there should be little heavy metal poisoning but i will change the DSB every 2 years or so just to be sure. Any other comments for it?

i will use a Ehiem for my return but what about those high powered ones to drive my skimmer? I would really like to place my skimmer externally. Anyone can recommend me any relatively lower costing pump?

so any experience on whether placing the skimmer at the very last compartment would affect the number of pods entering the tank? i see that many reefers put their skimmers at the last compartment unless they are using it externally.

so anybody else got info on placing internal pumps externally?

It is to channel the water into the second compartment. I find it more effective than just letting the water push itself up

Hi guys, just finished a simple picture on my sump design. The water first gets purified by the filter wool, chemipure and rowaphos in the first chamber. The baffle at the second chamber is half high and half short. This allows the water to flow into the MACROALGAE compartment and not the DSB. Next, the water overflows into the DSB compartment and the second baffle is the complement of the first. The water then flows into the skimmer and return pump compartment. Zero Oxygen mentioned to me that the skimmer should come first before the refugium and as stated in http://www.melevsreef.com/allmysumps.html Can anyone verify their claim that the pods will be skimmed out?

well, i agree that some pumps are made to be internal pumps but we can always modify them to be external right? does the heat cutoff mean that the pump will auto turn off when too hot? but other than the warranty, auto cutoff and external usage, what other reasons which makes such a price difference? what i am confused is that why people use pumps like Iw*k* to drive their skimmer when they can easily get a W*ipr* for half the price?
