  1. Leave it to grow but when you find that it take up too much of your Ca, you can get an urchin to eat it off
  2. yalor, monsoon coming soon so gonna expect a drastic drop in shipments. Anyway, has anyone seen a Kole tang anywhere?
  3. Actually its about a little bigger than a fist as you can compare with my plate at the side. And yeah if I ever frag it, I'll tell you
  4. Ok, in response to everyone's concern, here's the whole plan: Firstly, the main objective of this is on research puposes, with conservation as secondary and commercial in a sense to relief the costs of running the system. As for research, we are going to look at firstly trying to understand current findings and from there, we try to make it more effecient. An example would be on sandbed dynamics and we are going to study and understand better the works of the different types of bacteria present in the sand itself and also the effect of using different types of sand for a DSB. The part about gene manipulation would be conducted under close supervision by our geneticist Dr. Dennis Yeo who heads our Life Sciences facility. There are many more research topics we are looking at and they will be taken up by our students who will probably work on them for 2 year commitments whereby a next batch of students will take over the project. And if AT is willing to do the cherry picking, you're formally invited As for conservation, we hope to donate frags to current conservation programmes by the SSC and NUS. We will also organise guided trips to sites such as Chek Jawa and the reefs around Singapore to understand the current situation there. Another part of our conservation efforts would be selling/giving frags to the reefers out there and organise fragging sessions in the school and also workshops to share and teach the different methods of captive propagation to members of the public (reefers) who are interested to frag their own corals. And by doing this, we hope to reduce the amount of coral shipments and collection to Singapore and do our part to save the reefs. And lastly, we will also be selling some of our frags to reefers and the money collected would go back into running the system. We are also roping our D&T team to design better and more effiecient equipments for sale to reefers as well. And about the money issue, every purchase is to be reported and rest assured that I will not spend a bomb on ex. corals. And I remember a bro mentioned that purchasing corals are detrimental to reefs and I also agree, so that's why I am asking for frag donations so that I do not need to get wild colonies. Even if I were to purchase corals, I will get aquacultures ones so as to make zero impact on the reefs. Since, this project is not going to be up till 2006, the team is still working on further details and collaborations with various organisations so therefore, this is the best I can provide for the reefers here who are interested. As we go along, I will post more details about what we are doing
  5. Yeah I hope it'll extand its mantles more but think its just a yong one so I'll work on its diet of phyto
  6. You can read my article on sandbeds for some reference And I am still looking at the organics issue pointed out by a fellow reefer
  7. And also remember I got an orange yuma with a green rim frag? Just got a contrasting one that's green with an orange rim I will take some pics tomorrow when I turn on my MH
  8. I have propagated leather corals, zoos and SPS But still focusing on boosting natural mushroom splitting And yeah the clam is looking better today, gaping not so serious as of 2 days ago Found out that the LFS probably did not correctly remove the clam from its rock as a guy there told me to "turn until the clam drops off" Now looking for a new place to place it as a squamosa is reserved for the center area and I reckon the mantle would block the teardrop from view
  9. Its probably some detritus or precipitation may be happening in your tank
  10. Macro shot A little gaping probably due to light acclimatization Now using sheets of butter paper to acclimatize it
  11. Got a teardrop maxima yesterday Found that it does not have a rock attached so now praying for it to attach to my LR
  12. Got this as compliment from a fellow reefer No photo editing done!!!
  13. Actually, it kills different stuff with different flowrates Beneficial bacteria do not suspend in the water column but colonise on substrate and rocks
  14. You can try those night parties Saw some rosies coming in together with the SPS
  15. You'll see the polyps extending more and the colour starts to lighten up or even take a light hue of another colour!!!
  16. Yes, that's right and also rowa will tend to clump into a big rock of there is not enough water flowing throuth them and when this happens, it becomes ineffecient as the water reacts only with the surface area.
  17. A UV sterilizer only targets different organisms at different flowrates And fishes do not consume phyto but some corals and pods does!
  18. Hehe I already have one.... Very nice and very good buy
  19. There's a recent post in RC about someone selling his acans lords frags Damn nice
  20. Lol, AT too tired liao issit? Anyway, I finally know of the point of concern here and I would deeply regret to say that I cannot expose more of the plans other than the superficial ones. Its an instruction given to me not to tell anyone the details but when the time comes, I'll reveal everything. And by then AT, maybe you can do the dirty work j/k So, I can only assure you that we will have qualified scientists to aid in our research and not go blindly. And about the gene manipulation, we already know who can help us so don't worry. And I really hope that when the time comes, I can get the fullest support from SRC to help bring up the system
  21. You'll probably need a kreiser tank(did i spell it correctly?) with will cost you way out of this world. Not worth IMO
  22. So I see you have seen my classmate's project When I said that the school will pay for it, it doesn't mean that the school pays ALL of it. I am too looking for sponsors to fund my project too Some of you said that this project is so difficult, costly, low achieving, but how about possible? Its possible and the realm of possibility lies only in our heads. To me prople who say "impossible" are incompetent and unwilling to break the barrier of his limits. As we are moving on (as in Dunman Sec), we hope to come up with new ideas and be a role model to other schools as well and we believe that school is not only for students to come and have lessons and take exams and get a cert. That's why you see us having the Garden Roof (I was in it for some time), Life Sciences Facility, Design Nexus and stuff. We want the students to initiate all these projects. Yes, I do agree that I can't possibly manage the whole thing myself even with the help of my teacher and I have said many times that I'm roping in research institutions to come share their knowledge or even be on attachment. This is possible. And to reply AT, all our projects are not within our curriculum. Its based on our interest and passion for a certain activity that we want to show to our fullest potential. Like I said, school is not only for studying and exams but also a venue to develop a student's ###### and interest. That's exactly what secondary school is for, to find out each student's ability. I also believe that the teachers at my school are not so naive as to agree to any student's request and give out large funds. I have worked on my proposal for almost 3 months before I sent it for pending. These three months I've been working hand in hand with various teachers to work out the whole idea. And lastly, as I have said, I am only doing my part to conserve the reefs and even though its a small scale compared to the devastation, I still want to try. The reefs have given us so many things, its time we pay it back. And NOW is the time to do it.
