  1. Got a tomato clown FOC if you're interested.
  2. It's cleaning my grouper and picking on the live rock, but I tried brine shrimp, prawns, fish and pellets still not eating, it doesn't look thin but I better find some suppliment incase there is nothing left in the tank for him to pick. I was thinking small clams (those we eat at seafood rest.) or vegie ? I probably give the small white clam a try or get some cubes of Hikari frozen mysis.
  3. I am very impress with your system and I am also into economical (equates I am poor ),effective and sustainable micro tanks like the tank you have. I have many questions and hope you don't mind answering them for me. 1. How long has this particular tank been running ? 2. What is your water change routine like ? Frequency and volume ? (Interesting because I don't see a nitrate export source ) 3. Can you tell me where and how much for your a. PL light set ( could you describe more ) b. custom tank I am looking to setup one like this, so I better get all my facts before I attempt it
  4. I doubt you'll ever get the flow rate of the cannister and protein skimmer pump to run at the same rate, what will happen is you'll either get too much water in your sub tank (cannister rate > pump rate) and have water overflow your sub tank or you'll get a burnout pump (cannister rate < pump rate). Even if you manage to get the same flow rate during initial setup, your cannister flow rate will slow once the mechanical media traps waste. If the sub tank sole purpose is basically for the skimmer I guess you can use an external skimmer and give the sub tank a miss. Incidentally I am a newbie at marine, but I have been keeping freshwater fishes and planting for awhile, and I have experimented with what you have in mind without success
  5. Can someone tell me what to feed my cleaner wrasse ?
  6. Hi, I would like to check if there are Actinic bulb that fits into a 2 feet hood ? Are this type of bulb PL (4 pins one side) or FL (2 pins on both sides ) tubes, what is it wattage normally for this length? Whats usually the price? Another question, anyone knows a good place to buy 8000K or 10000K 55W PL bulbs, mine just blow and most shops carry only 6500K 55W PL ? Got Nice price lagi good Thanks.
  7. Yah those Tetra Test Strips; but I use JBL pH kit to counter check my pH and Sera Kit for kH. Most of my kits are pretty old, about 2 to 3 years or some older. I have been keeping freshwater and planter for sometime, but after awhile I get to know the routine and the kits gets shelf with more then half use.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll probably give them a try. As for tamban hooks, thats not a problem as I have a arsenal of fishing tackle. I wouldn't mind send anyone two by snail mail if you need them. Anyway, i find it hard to catch a particular tomato clown, but he's big enough to be hook up but I will try the other less drastic method first. Anyway anyone wants a tomato clown and a Ocellaris clownfish ( false Percula clownfish )?
  9. You're right about my needing more test kits, I ought to get a Ca and Mg kit to know what is missing precisely. But the problem is I probably can only get them over the weekend, so the next best thing I can do now is do a 30~40% water change, to fix it temporary. My tank is small, 2'x1'x1.5'.
  10. Can anyone share how do you guys remove fishes from your tank, especially those tanks with life rocks setup and with infinite hiding space Other than tearing the whole tank down I mean
  11. Hi, I read this in seachem website ..... Use Reef Builderâ„¢ to raise carbonate alkalinity without affecting pH. Use Reef Bufferâ„¢ to raise carbonate alkalinity and pH. Since I need to bring my pH up from 7.5 to 8.3 and my kH is only 6dH I will probably get Reef Buffer. Just happen that I am use some left over test strip that read pH, kH and also gH. So at least I know my Ca + Mg is safe for now.
  12. Thanks for all the pointers. I guess I got some idea on the direction to go and I spend 3 hours to read up on marine pH,kH and gH requirement (up until 2.30am so now abit zombie ) yah kH is kinda low which is probably why the pH is falling. gH looks pretty okay for now but I really need the Ca and Mg kit to tell accurately. I'll get Seachem Buffer to push up kH and Reef Advantage Calcium to manage Ca and Mg after I get some kit reading. Thanks for all advise and it's great to have experience people to talk to for newbie like me.
  13. I am a 2 week old marine newbie and currently my tanks parameter is pH : 7.5 ~ 8.0 kH : 6d gH : >16d salinity : 1.023 How do I bring pH back to 8.4 ? I am keeping some Mushroom and Zoa, my mushroom look fine but my Zoa not opening. I was thinking of getting Reef Advantage Calcium to push it up but I am not sure if I will overkill Calcium. At the same time I'll also get a Ca test kit. Any advise or guess appreciated.
  14. This is a protein layer, it means you need a skimmer.
  15. There is 2 reason fishes breath fast. Firstly it could be lack of Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in the water, this can be cause be warming of the tank water by whatever reason eg. power head over heating, lights, etc or chemicals. If it's the first reason, you got to remove the source of heat production or add fans or chiller and if it's the second you have to dilute the chemical by some water change. Secondly it could be due to parasitic infection that effects the gills, thereby causing the fish to breath harder and faster. Identify the problem and medicate as required. I believe the problem is likely due to warm water.
  16. I am a newbie starting a 2 footer, do you have enough smaller pieces for me to fill my tank? Say about 7 or 8kg?
