Can i keep copperband butterfly or any tang?
dragonfly_sg replied to CPperson's topic in General Reefkeeping_
If your tank is well established with presence of natural tiny pods. Then i guess you can give it a try. But it'll be best if you can train it to eat chop up mysis or other fishfood. Its the same problem with Mandarins. If you don't have the environment to cultivate enough live pods for it to eat, it will stay alive initially while live food is available and slowly starve to death once it runs out. Copperband is one of the harder ones to keep. I find tangs easier. That said your tank is a bit small for a tang. Just my 2 cents. Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk -
If you buy live rocks or corals attached to larger rock, you're bound to get a few of them. Used to have a few of them, they usually source out the dead fishes (thats why dead fishes tends to disappear in tanks with lotsa live rock) and any thing that can be eaten. They are scavengers. Good marine shops for these creatures?
dragonfly_sg replied to CPperson's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Actually i believe there are 3 or 4 shops spread across farmway 2 and 3. I have not been there for awhile now but i am sure there are still more than one eg. Awana, ah beng and the old couple infront of ah beng, etc. Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk -

Require help with ich.

If you are going this route and yours is a fish only tank, you could lower the salinity, i read somewhere that below certain point it either dies or can't reproduce. Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk -

Actually it depends on what spieces you have, T.Crocea and T. Maxima you want them on rocks rather then sand bed itself. They prefer to have something solid eg. a rock to secure themselve to .

The strips need 12 or 9V DC? I assume you use a ACDC converter or one of those phone charger type plug? How many Amp per feet or meter does the strips require? I was thinking doing some general lighting with the strips too and use the LED spot to light area for clam and zoa. But it's all in the planning phase, esp the spotlight. Do you mind tell whats the configuration u used.

I doubt got so nice ones, I only found those normal FL ligth fixture commonly used for those HDB void deck. Those nice aquarium light casing (with legs) probably have to looks for second hand market from local aquarium forum, espcially those that are spolit since you only need the frame/casing.
-
Yah, they look bright but I think the lumens of those strips are not that high and the light is scattered so might not be suitable if the clams isn't just below the surface.

The black line is aluminium square 1" tube. The Yellow is the back of the spotlight with the handle removed, so there should be 2 hole on each side for screw that secure the original handle. drill 3 set of hole along the top bar to secure the red line in the image, thats where longer screws are need to secure the spotlight in between the 2 top parallel bar, using the hole in the spotlight. My plan is to secure 3 40W on the top bar over a 4' span. This rig sits on top of the tank, the rack and spotlight should not be too heavy ....... I hope. Now to find a shop to customise this at a reasonable price. ~ Each 40W LED bulb should give 3200 lumens. ~ Total 3 bulbs should be 9600 lumens.

DIY Automatic Emergency Fish Tank Rescue system during power failure
dragonfly_sg replied to CFOh's topic in DIY Forum
That is a very good idea actually, while fishing we usually need both lights and air here some questions ..... 1) Can you show the connections in the DC pump? I assume the wire is soldered to the motor's lead? 2) Where did you solder the resistor? What output is the Automatic Emergency Light giving out? 3) Lastly, where did you get it and how much does it cost? And thanks -
To be fair, a handful of LFS are better then others, but those are the rare ones. I understand it's basically an economic issue with the LFS and maybe pride in their product for some. I guess the question then to me is, would I pay more for a fish from those LFS that done some form of quarantine, rest or observation period. Maybe when I was starting the hobby I wouldn't, but as times goes and better understanding of this hobby, it has become more acceptable. Inwear, how does copper help? If we have a FOWLR tank could we do likewise, not that I am gonna do it . I know the LFS add some blueish chemical into the tanks or tub containing new shipment, is that copper? Well, actually my question should be, is there any negative effect ?

I understand and support the need to quarantine 100%. But the issue is, if my assumption is true, then we must assume that all the fish we buy from the LFS are by default sick in someway. Just that depending on it's condition when you purchase, some are just less sick then others? If that's true then isn't it rather depressing? That is not exactly true, when I quarantine I put all the new fishes together in a quarantine tank. I doubt many people can afford a quarantine tank per fish especially in the early stocking stage. And even if you buy only one fish, the parasite can still host or re-host on the original fish unless it dies. I think the quarantine idea is more for observation and treatment if problem is identified. More so that additional baddies don't get introduce into the main tank. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of a quarantine option now a days, and I know the risk and experienced the consequences.

Just shooting the breeze but there is something bugging me about the water conditions of our LFS that I want to toss out and see if anyone can enlighten me. Every time I visit a LFS, there is bound to be one or more tank that have fishes that are obviously sick and very unhealthy. And I know that most, if not all uses some form of recirculating system. IE. a central sump which handles(filter) and distributes water back to a number of tanks. I am not sure how many such system each shop will have but I assume 2 or 3? Which means that the tank of sick fishes must be sharing it's water with at least 33~25% of the tanks in the shop? Does this means most of the fish from the LFS will probably carry some form of bacteria or parasite? Or am I missing something? My experience with buying fishes from LFS isn't very successful, I lose about 40% of the fishes I purchase within the first 2 months. Is that an acceptable norm or am I doing something wrong. The problem is with the doubt with the recirculation system planted in my mind, I am not sure if the fishes death is because of anything I did or can control. Like I buy 5 clowns and only 3 makes it after a month, 3 baggai and only 2 makes it after a month. All with the same condition. Incidentally fishes I catch from the wild have a better survival rate in my experience. And fishes from the buy and sell section in the forum usually do very well too. So I have this nagging feeling it's the LFS that the source of the problem?

Iwana ...... nothing much yesterday evening. 2 or 3 flame angle and some yellowtail butterfly as of last evening (Tues) Ah Beng ..... 4 juv. 6 bar, one juv koran, one blue ring, one imperator, some bi-colour. Other I notice is one small Orbiculate Batfish, and 2 medium Pinnate Batfish, Couple of frogfish in plastic bags. A blue tub of assorted fishes, bought 5 banner from the tub last evening. Aunty/Uncle shop beside opp Ah Beng, many large and nice mandarins. Very nice and fat, too bad I can't support them yet else I would have got one. The shop also got a Philippines shipment, all dump into the blue tube on the table. View from the top there are a few tangs, got sailfin but can't really see what others type. Saw a dead brown coloured tang, but under the bubbling blueish water can't tell if it's a whitecheek or PBrownT, does either comes from Philipines? I notice 3 juv koran in the tub.
