  1. Not a good idea using styrofoam as it floats, and by placing it underwater you will be fighting against boyuancy all the time. You don't want the piece of styrofoam to suddenly 'uproot' in your tank right? Its a disaster waiting to happen.
  2. Thanks for the advise, I will take note of the precipitation. Temp seems to be around 29'C with lights on. Didn't go BB cos I will be chopping up mushies and dumping the slices into this tank.. sort of like a mushroon nursery hence the coral chips. One question, since this is a low or almost no bioload tank, do I need to be cautious about nitrates?
  3. Shifted the lights to one side for now. Added a flat LR with some mushroom heads.
  4. Just came back from the farms.. didn't find a LED that I liked, so I settled for a PL B/W lightset instead. Took a pic of it on... super bright! Don't think my mushrooms will be too pleased. Will think of a water to lower the intensity down.
  5. Just setup another tank for a place to hold my mushroom frags. Seems like my mushrooms in my 2footer don't really like the current and kept detaching from the rocks. Anyway, I got myself a HOB filter and coral chips covering the sandbed. Only livestock will be mushrooms - no fishes Will head down to get myself a clip on LED light fixture. Here's a pic of the tank currently.
  6. One of the arms of my sand star melted away. But it seems to be doing fine.. will the lost arm grow back?
  7. Amby, here's a pic for you! Credits - Goodwin9 from Reef Central
  8. No idea, the person who posted that pic on another forum said it was from a LFS in Indonesia.
  9. Thanks tunicate. Will drop by C238 later.
  10. Hi tunicate, what about those HOB filters with in built surface skimmer? Do they adjust to the water level too? Don't think an off the shelf surface skimmer will work as my tank is too small.
  11. Hi all, I'm thinking of modding my HOB filter w/o surface skimmer to one that can skim the surface. Will drilling a small hole at the intake of the HOB at the water level work? I'm concerned that the HOB will suck air in... what are the adverse effects of doing that? How does a normal surface skimmer prevent air from being sucked in? Please advice as I can't find a small enough HOB + surface skimmer for my pico tank. Thanks!
  12. Not into rhodatics, just pure discosomas. I think rhodatics are harder to keep. Do you still have your mushroom garden now amby?
  13. Nice reef video I found on youtube to share with you all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JgquJWj5qg&feature=related
  14. Here are some pics of local mushroom tanks, that I hope to acheive as well.
  15. Here are some old pics I dug up. Hope the owners don't mind. These pics are the reasons for my inspiration to acheiving a mushroom tank.
  16. Come on guys show all your mushrooms that you are hiding be it simple or nice.. Anyone has a pic of their mushroom garden to share?
  17. Iwarna still has 1pc blue star today. Pinnacle is the farm on the left at the first T-junction. After turning left you will see a roundabout marking, just go straight up the small slope its the first bulding on the left.
  18. Looking good, did you leave your lights on while cycling? Can you PM the price of your tank? Thinking of changing my current tank design.
  19. The tank seems to be stable now. Mushrooms are opening up like before and the melting has stopped. Will post a pic of the tank nxt week as I won't be ard for the next few days. Overall lost about 30% of my mushrooms... very heavy loss to me but I will keep on going.
  20. 2 more mushies melting this morning. Someone mentioned dipping in iodide solution. Does it have the same effect?
  21. Lost some nice coloured mushrooms... just did a 20% WC and those mushrooms which were melting were salvaged by slicing away the infected areas. Conclusion of diaster: Bought new mushies and didn't let them adapt to brighter lighting, resulting in them melting and infecting others. Another lesson learnt that patience is always the key to the hobby. Hope things will be better soon.
  22. More mushies have melted this morning. Can't wait to go home after work to do a WC. Hai. Seems like the infected ones are spreading to the healthy mushies.
  23. I change about 15% of water every week. Right now my mushroooms seem to be melting one by one. I hope history does not repeat itself. I'm thinking it could be the dieoffs from the LR that I added that caused an ammonia spike.
