Played around with the lightset. It is possible to fit 2 bulbs in the hood. Had a dilemma whether to mod it to a 2x36W PL or leave it as 1x36W, since I also had a dual e-ballast. Decided to stick to the plan first. If not enough, can always mod again.

Removed the dreaded outdated iron ballast. Weighs a ton and heats up more than an e-ballast. Good riddance!

I modified my existing lightset today. Its a 1x36W PL lightset with iron ballast, modded it to an e-ballast. Changed the colour of the lightset as well. Took out the ballast and bulb from another lightset that I worked on before.

Ah-lim's Budget set up & Budget gatherin

Nice tank! Really like the use of your tonga branches. -

Just a simple drawing of how my tank will be like. Plan to get a sheet of acrylic and silicon it to make an IOS chamber. The return hole would be bigger than usual. That's because I plan to use my Seio M820 as my 'return pump'. It also helps to hide the wavemaker from the tank.

The sponge is used to dissipate the air bubbles from the water that is coming out from the skimmer.

To convert from a reef to FOWLR setup, you can remove equipment that a FOWLR does not necessary require. Such equipment would be Chiller, Calcium reactor, and also downgrading your lights. However, you will still require a good skimmer.

Hi, nice tank you got there. I got a similar tank as yours too. What about water flow? I think the HOF like not enough flow for the tank.
-
You can hang the skimmer at the brace, if you do not have a sump.

Thats all for today. Will post more pictures of my tank setup as it goes on. Just some pictures of my previous 3ft tank. Oh I miss those days.

Another shot of the skimmer, placed on top of 2 styrofoam blocks. Note that the skimmer is not hanging at the tank side. Should I saw off the 'hook'? Or leave it there for future readjustments.
-
Its hard to manage without a sump. Furthermore, the tank is really small so have to make do with what little space I have.
-
Can't wait to see the tank in place, so I just placed everything to see how the tank will be like, with lights and skimmer.
-
Decided the location of where the tank will be. I don't know if the shelf can hold the weight though.

Decided to use my 1x36W PL lightset for this setup. Going to have to modify it heavily, which involves replacing the outdated iron ballasts with e-ballasts. Still thinking if I should convert it to a 2x36W fixture. If not, I'll use the single B/W tube.
