Hitchhikers found: An orange starfish 1.5" wide Apista? Found some of these of my LR, seems bleached, but they do not close up quickly when touched. I'm thinking it could be some bleached out zoos or polyps. Anyone here can advice?

Salt Mix Overall Users Poll
Firestarter replied to John Deroe Kenedy's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I have used 3 different brands of salt before. 1.Tropic Marin 2. Red Sea (non Pro) 3. BioMarine Tropic Marin - Although have good reviews from many reefers, I find that my LS don't do as well as using Red Sea. Dissolves fast too. Red Sea - Cheap and good. Dissolves average... will have some white powder remaining. BioMarine - No longer have stock. Its those cheapo salt mix that I use when I started. Poor solubility... alot of white ppt left floating and in the water. But however, I think its the best salt of the 3, because everytime I use it on a newly cycled tank, I had an outbreak of coraline algae in just a few weeks... Anyone seen this salt around please let me know! -
Either a chiton or a limpet.

Hi guys, Off topic but for those staying in Jurong area, where do you go buy your LS? LCK is quite far away, and the only other place I know of is ML. Any other smaller LFS selling marine fish/corals in the area?

Wanna make IQ3/5 reef tank possible ?
Firestarter replied to bluspoon's topic in Members Tank & Specs
I've been searching around for reviews on the iQ3/IQ5. Seems that majority of the owners have upgraded from their IQ tanks. Is the tank hard to work with given the size? Could someone provided the specific dimensions for both tanks? -
Hi, any updates? Mind to share with me the price of your tank, cabinet and lights? Thinking of coming back to reefing after seeing your setup! Argh!

Slapper, your tank really blew me away! Are you sure its a 2ft? Looks more than a 2ft in the pics... anyway what is the width and height of the tank? Seeing your tank really make me feel that I want to start reefing again!

Risks for not changing water
Firestarter replied to cutebarra77's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Please use DISTILLED water (which is PURE water) and not mineral water which has elements that can harm your fishes. Be sure to read the label properly before you buy them. -
Tiffanydunk! you're back!

If its bryopsis, you're in for some trouble mate! Dont let it spread! Its one algae I never want to experience again. No fish would want to eat them becos it tastes bad... (You can try your luck on the bi-colour blenny) To remove it: Dont just pluck it out, it did the mistake of doing that which released it spores and instead spread to the whole tank. Use a tweezer to pluck it and siphon around it to suck all the bits of floating algae.

Firestarter's 2ft Standard tank II
Firestarter replied to Firestarter's topic in Members Tank & Specs
Yes I love shrooms! I'm still decided whether to stick to my current scape or remove all LR and place them on coral chip sandbed. I've found another secret to mushrooms is that you have to leave them alone for them to blossom! I've neglected the tank for awhile on purpose and they seem to be doing better. My other shroom nursery is doing fine as well. -
Freshwater to Marine Question
Firestarter replied to JeffL's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Freshwater bacteria and saltwater bacteria are different. You need to start from scratch again. If you want to reuse your filter media you got to wash it thoroughly. Most reefers avoid medias like bio balls, ceramic rings, coral chips as they as known to be a breeding ground for nitrates. -
A small update... added more mushroom frags from my main tank. All seems to be doing well. Surprisingly, almost 1 week and no signs of diatoms or algae outbreak.

Firestarter's 2ft Standard tank II
Firestarter replied to Firestarter's topic in Members Tank & Specs
I have to apologise for the pics... the colours are way off in real life. I need to get a decent digicam to get better pics. I had a sand star that was helping to keep the sand clean but it melted away. I'm still contemplating to do a major rescape to the tank. Also, coral chips will be placed over the sand for the mushrooms to attach to when they fly away. -

Hi thanks for the interest in my thread... I am currently in the process of propagating my mushrooms in my pico 'nursery' tank. I took many pics but can't seem to get the white balance in place... I can post them if you don't mind the blue hue. -
Hi brandonm, its nice to see that you're made this thread alive again! Will have to read this thread from the start when I'm back from work, the pictures are too intensive to be discreet in the office.
