  1. Bought a frag of red monti from him. Very healthy and brightly coloured.
  2. School holidays is just next week. Cut him some slack.
  3. Nice, noticed you position your wavemaker blowing upwards. Any reason for that? Ive positioned mine to blow from upwards to across the tank to give more flow.
  4. Someone else also selling bali green slimer for the same price but size is 1/10 of what mellow is selling.
  5. What lightset is that, and how much did you pay for? Tank and SPS are looking good!
  6. Are you dosing any other addictives as well? Notice any improvements or still the same?
  7. You mentioned you've reefed for 2 years. So what are you trying to imply then? Now, we can go on harping about newbies, experts and number of years etc but the fact is you gave bad advice. I'm sure all this bickering doesn't benefit anyone of us here. Cheers and lets reef on.
  8. Glad you solved your problem.
  9. So? The number of years you have been in the hobby doesn't automatically qualify or make you a senior or an expert. It is through sharing of experiences, exchanging info, and giving PRACTICAL and USEFUL advice that helps to increase our knowledge to become experienced reefers. I've been in the hobby and in this forum since 2004 and till now I dare not call myself an expert. I'm still learning from bros here everyday. Reef on.
  10. I'm surprised that you do not use white. Any particular reason why?
  11. Bro, mind sharing what T5 lights you using? How many tubes and the colour of each tube?
  12. Please check out this thread. Design may be abit different but same concept and it works, without detritus buildup. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1920386&page=2
  13. Dude, I'm not trying to be a smart as$ here but though your reply may be technically correct, it is bad advice. why? First of all, did you check with the threadstarter on his tank size, and is it suitable to keep a trigger/puffer? And also is he keeping a reef or fowlr tank? Do you know that both fishes are not reef safe? Might as well suggest an octopus while you're at it. Not trying to insult you here but while the threadstarter may be wise enough not to heed your unpractical advice, other newbies reading this post may be clueless (or ignorant) and go ahead with your advice. Will you be responsible for their tanks if it crash? What if the trigger attacks other tank mates? Its easy to give advice but one should be practical and realistic to the kind of advice given. I'm posting this so as to let other newbies know and not just follow advice given blindly.
  14. Here is the tank thread. Very simple SPS tank that gave me inspiration to keep SPS and keep my current setup simple.
  15. You can place the meat in those essence of chicken bottles and lean it against the rock overnight when the fishes are asleep. Then again if the crab is too big it can climb out of the trap easily. You might need to use a bigger bottle.
  16. Soft corals such as mushrooms require low to medium light and flow.
  17. I'm keeping my temp at 27.2 to 28.2. I guess its not a 'must have' temp of below 27'c for sps. Thanks for the insightful info...
  18. Hi Cedric, may I know what temp you are keeping your SPS at? Just want to set a baseline for myself.
  19. For that amount of growth in 9 days, is the growth considered normal or accelerated caused by the milk?
  20. Braincoral, are you using a dosing pump or just running your CR only?
  21. I believe he is referring to the mechanical filter such as the filter wool/sock being saturated with dirt and detritus, not the bioballs.
  22. Here is my source to back myself. Please refer to #16 of this thread, posted by Senior Moderator Gouldian
  23. I shall not name names here, and neither do I claim to be an expert. Anyway, for filtration there are 3 basic types. Mechanical, biological and chemical (in the following order). Of course there are others such as cryptic but I won't be discussing about it here. It is a common belief that bioballs, ceramic rings are nitrate factories. True, but to an extent. A good filtration system will employ all 3 types. If you can get your mechanical filtration dialed in correctly, there would not be an issue with the biological stage, which in your case is your bioballs. Now, to simply remove all your bioballs would mean that you lose most of your biological filtration. Its a drastic and unpractical (even you commented where all your bacteria will grow).
