is there any other way to purify tap water other than using RO or DI system? due to space and inaccessibility, i'm unable to install a RO system and of cause cost is part of the factor also. i am only having a 2ft tank. so thinking can thing like activated carbon purify tap water?

i would suggest hydor 1 or 2. i'm also having a tank of the same dimension and using a hydor 1. personally i feel that the flow is not that strong. if i was given a choice again. probably i would go for a hydor 2. i do not know the effect of the wave on any livestock yet as this is my first marine tank and still in cycle stage. appreciate if other reefer can share their experience.

Is there a specfic way to use that or just throw in and pump air? as what i understand, it not really advisable to create air bubble in a marine tank. as in openly, not as in those protein skimmer where it a controlled environment.

Hi reefers, Can anyone provide me more info on air stone skimmer? correct me if i'm wrong. i do not know what is the proper name. but i think it just using those wooden air stone to do skimming. it a very low tech skimmer but having a skimmer is better than none. i find my tank to conjested to put in those pump operated skimmer.

i'm having a 2 by 1 by 1 ft tank. i'm very interested to keep clam. currently using 4 x T5. it is alway recommended to use a MH for clam but i had found out that there are people who are successful with t5 light too.

bro, the brand you recommend is kind of high end. i only cater a budget of say less than hundred each for wavemaker and skimmer. how about brand like hydor or boyu ? are they reliable? and also can someone enlighten me on the placement of skimmer. i understand that some have to be place partially in the tank, some are out outside and some are place in the sump. are skimmer electric operated or an external pump is require to power them ?

hi mossrope, great write up, so am i right to say that using a actinic light at which it at around 7500k. it do help with the coral growth in some way?common coral we buy doesnt come from that deep an ocean so kelvin they uses it around 6500k. so for a 20 000k light basically it just bring out the colour of the coral. more for a cosmetic effect. i am thinking of have a conditioning tank. more for conditioning water before water change. what mean can be use for aerating the tank?

can any bro enlighten me why is it that using a canister filter, weekly or rather more frequent washing of filter have to be done? i felt that it just similar to having a sump, in a sump there would be mechanical filtration such as wool i guess. that mean it will cork up as what happen in a canister and in turn slow down the flowrate too. is a wave maker require in a small tank like 2ft ?

may i know whar are the medium you have in your canister? my tank is a 2x1x1. with a thickness of about 50mm. it those typical 2ft tank you buy off the shelf. lastly, peter care to share pic of your tank.

hi reefer, i'm very new to this hobby, have not get started but now in the planning phase. need some advice from experience reefer here. first of all, i'm quite budget constrain. and wish to utilise whatever equipment i have now as i having a freshwater planted tank. i have search around the forum and could not really find the answer that i'm looking for that why i decided to do up this post. 1) i have a canister filter which i wish to utilise and i understand that it not recommended to use a canister in marine. but i believe there are reefer out there using a canister and doing very well for their tank. need good advice as to how about utilising my canister. (2ft tank) 2) i have a normal 2ft tank. not sure whether is it able to support a marine tank. i looking at setting up a coral tank. could experience reefer provide me spec to tank and better still where i can get then at a good price. thank a million

hi all, recently i bought a 2nd hand arctica 1/10. i also experience high kick in rate, like say kick in 2 minute then standby 5min. then kick in again. i chilling a 2ft tank. set temp is at 26c. what are then possible cause for this.
