I concur with Amby. Light set + tubes play a big part. In your comparison, your LED has "blue spectrum". Does your T5 has actinic or blue tubes? This should determine whether it's a fair comparison. What's the brand of the tubes and ballasts? Any of your corals require strong lighting? Coz the clams on your sandbed doesn't seemed like it's opening fully? I could be wrong. This being said, i've not seen a 1ft lightset (LED, PL or T5) that consumes 50W. That's quite a lot isn't it? I typical 1ft PL light only consumes like 18W. (I assume the test was done using 1ft lightset, since you're using a 16W T5) However, the constant battle is the 'heat' component. Which of coz LED wins hands down! look forward to hear more details from you.

dude, you can try solite lighting set. I'm using a Solite (can't remember the model number), it's got a 250W DE MH + 2x24W T5 + 2x1w moonlight. External ballast for the MH, and all 3 separate lighting plugs. Thus, you can run a 3-in-1 timing circuit. btw: it comes with a very nice black casing.

thanx bro. got inspiration from my bro-in-law's new tank. But mine is still very messy. Tried my best to keep it as simple as possible... Think the best way is to chisel off extra LRs from mushies and zoas. That way, can save a lot of space. I'm quite impressed with your DIY skills! keep it up man, am following ur thread too!
