299 is the device only, u may wish to get the complete set if it the first time u r using. Unless u already have all other parts/know how to prepare the solution. Best is subjective bro, I bought it cos I'm lazy and dunno how to tune CR. Test kits, u will need Ca, Kh and Mg. I personally like salifert. If u r lazy, like me, prefer 1 stop shop, then just call iwarna, they'll get complete set direct to ur place. But I believe this will set u back, $500++... Good luck! Btw how's the sps doing?
-
You can find BM dosing pump from Iwarna. They do installation at ur house, with delivery. Complete set with containers and the liquid. Btw in case u dun have, you'll need test kits.

Upz for u bro. $50 for all or $2 a piece!! Good deal!!

Whistle whistle! We knew that when you decommed, you guys will come back much stronger. Indeed. Love the scaping! Will be great if you can share how this gravity defying scape is achieved? Pls do keep sharing...
-
Your parameters look ok. Not much sps, so ca should be ok. Mag also high. My mag dropped tremendously. yday was at 1060... No wonder some not colouring up.

If the live rocks are indeed live and the water is from the same source, you have 70% chance of keeping the corals alive. Cos I don't see any fish. But if not, don't be disheartened if you see the sps bleach or turn brown. In fact, the big colony of monti is showing signs of bleaching le. Just learn that sps is unlike LPS, they really require better and constant water quality and care. Maybe these can help for now... ensure you have good flow and I mean at least 8000-10000 l/hr flow in ur rsm. Dunno what lighting u have, hopefully it's at least 6 tubes of HO T5. Weekly water change of 10% and dump in phosguard to control algae growth. You could still turn things around. And if possible get a dosing pump to ensure sps get sufficient Ca, KH and Mg.
-
Hmmm good question on why KH drops. Honestly, I dunno. But I know for my tank (quite a few pieces of sps) I dose abt 80ml of kh daily (thru dosin pump). Alternatively weekly water change of 10% will help keep parameters in check. It really helps. For a month, when I was "free", I did that, and observed slower algae growth and good sps growth.

It's a tad too low. You may wish to buff it up to at least 7. Recommended ard 8-9. There are various ways of pushing it up gradually. I used to use seachem buffer. Relatively easy. Some (I was told) use baking soda.

Budget cost for starting a 2 ft marine tank
wilsontantw replied to dirtnitro's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Why don't you do more reading of the marine hobby before starting one? A good first stop is actually here. Specifically, the members tank thread forum. There's a huge bunch of good setup that you learn from. I learnt a lot from them. Unlike fresh water, marine requires you to culture a mini ecosystem within the confinement of your tank size. So understanding the basics ANN cycle is elementary. Next are why to keep. I recently went to library to borrow some marine book, it helps me understand better some search terms. Don't rush into it, for this hobby calls for super patience. Smaller tank size = more maintenance effort. If u like a lot of fish, be prepared to get a big (read 3 to 4 feet) and a very efficient (read expensive) skimmer. The general rule of thumb, is 1 gallon of tank size to 1 inch of total fish size. We all go through the phase of starting small, and for those "serious" reefers, the typical canister filter is not advisable. Just do a quick poll, how many canisters users are there? Then comes the water change, you need to nsure u either be hardworking to do water change weekly + top up daily, or your passion for this hobby will not go past 1 year (at best). Cos the hassle and cost of replacing livestock will outweigh the enjoyment. The honest truth is this hobby sucks up a lot of Money and time. A decent setup (tank, light, saltmix, di water preparation, resins, carbon, test kits, pumps, livestock, electricity, water, food etc etc will set you back by: one-time start up: from $500 (sometimes u get a good deal from pasar malam) monthly outlay: additional $100 in electrical bill, some odd fish/coral purchases. All said, it's a rewarding hobby. Nothing beats the fact that you are creating a piece of the marine ecosystem in your living room, is a great achievement. The fishes are also nicer in colouration compares to most freshwater ornamental fish. Pls do read more, use google... It will help you find the answers to you question. -
Looks like a radioactive birdnest to me. If it is, you will grow to love it. It's extremely bright in colour and very easy to maintain. Mid-low lighting and it will still grow. I guess ur high magnesium levels do help in the colouration. Must learn how to use LED to keep sps. Can pop by to see ur setup one of these days??
-
Good colouration from LED! Can share the other parameters? I believe ur tank has low nutrients levels too. pls keep the updates coming.

tiny... it's just a holding tank... 2'x2'x16.5" quite pack actually, but still got space for frags (not colonies)... need to downsize most of the colonies as i wish to collect more varieties... hahaha... yes, i'm well into the dark side now. But still long way to go, must slowly collect the frags. At this moment, i'm just thinking main tank all SPS... maybe 90%.... the rest will move into the holding tank (recently completed project).

Can someone teach me how to attach AquaBee 2000 inlet to a baffle?
wilsontantw replied to tunicate's topic in DIY Forum
bro... i have spare piping (a few metres) and 2 new (unused) ball valves bought extra for new project. if u want, i can sell them at cost. I'm located at the east, bedok reservoir. PM if you are keen. -
This zoas mountain will soon be out from main tank... planning to move it into my new project tank. Hopefully in 1 month's time. I'm looking for a MP40w, if you have one to sell, please let me know age/condition/location/price... thanks much.

It's been almost 1 month since the last update... busy with work and sideline project. Soul bro: thanks for dropping by . Nice to meet you again! free drop by ah... in the mean time, some pictures update for the past month... Tank is still filled with frag racks, thus can't take FTS... First up, the blue carpet... colour kinda darken a little... Of the 4 pieces of mini carpets, this is the only piece that moved... up from the base... clearly a sign that blue mini carpets need stronger lights.

I've not tried zeovit before... Do u mean it caused some damage to the sps? The pink birdnest and green stag are very nice specimens.. pity they didn't make it. Do share ur experience on zeovit, as I understand, it's not a simple system (I could be wrong) and not cheap too. I'm still trying out dosing pump. So far it's been quite stable. Only trouble is that daily parameter checks are required for the first week and subsequently, must do weekly checks. Hope it helps in your journey to the dark side.
-
Not frag tank, holding tank. Haha. It's up and running for 2 weeks.. Sps brown out in the new tank though share the same system. Purple tang got a few white spots. Suspect light and flow not ideal... You've not collected your prize yet?
-
How old is it? How's the condition? Location?
-
For you... You get a bowl of hot campbell soup! Congrats to all winners. Too bad can't be there for the mini get-together..
-
Maybe not fully automatic, as you need to do salt mix as well. But it's still very possible. I dislike water change cos carry buckets of salt water is backbreaking and sometimes dirty the floor. But it's an important step in reefing. Of that can be reduced, more time can be spent taking care of the corals and propogating them. If man can go to the moon... It's just a case of how much $ we are wiling to spend to automate waterchange.
-
??? Can someone translate that into English for me??? Hahaha... just kidding... This is too scientific for me.. But it's good u highlight this, I'm sure some lighting experts can contribute further. Gosh, where do u guys learn all these??
-
Wow. Nice to know all is in order bro fleek... U may have just started a new way of cycling.... Btw, did u say u were planning a new tank? Or issit up and running already?
