It's been a few days since i last update the thread... mainly becoz i've been busy with family stuff. Wifey just gave birth to our 2nd kid on 11/1/11 @ 11XX hrs. Oh, those who knows me well, will know i have a fascination over a series of 1s. (not being number 1, but a lot of 11111111).... UNfortunately, i'm still not lucky enough to have my car number with 1111. *i'm still looking and trying to bid for it... anyone knows how much i need??? Anyway, back to the tank.. prior to my wife's delivery... i was rushing to quickly do up a new frag station for the main tank, as both frag racks are invaded by green 'film' algae! Cedric was king enough to help me at the 11th hour to help complete my DIY project! and at the same time, do up my ATO... But due to time constraint, i spent like 2 hours cleaning up the frags on the old racks and place them unto the new one! Goodness, didn't know it's THAT PAINFUL! Sadly, in all the rush, didn't take a picture of the new rack... will do so next time i go home (yes, i've been stucked at the hospital since 11/1). Went back home for a couple of hours earlier to see my eldest, who was also down with high fever (on the same day his sister was born!) Dunno if this is coincidence or just his way of 'hinting' us?!?! Managed to spot a couple of sps 'kissing' each other, and immediately do some recovery action (hope i can save them in time). Did FW top-up and quickly wash-up the skimmer cup (it's only been 3days, and the neck is filled with so much gunk! But i didn't even feed the fishies... so what happened man!?!?) Oh, and in all the rush, i managed to take a video of the holding tank... (but i think the lighting condition was quite atrocious...) but heck... after all this 'words'... i better show some action... less i get scolded for being long-winded. And if you noticed, the video ended abruptly... that's becoz my mum reminded me that the DI unit is overflowing my FW container... *it's true! It caused a small flood in my kitchen! Enjoy...

Harvest?? haha... sure, i'll let you know when i'm harvesting... but it's still a long way to go. Bro... really, i'm already drooling at your tank pics... cant imagine when i see it in person! i think the holding tank can still make some space... Main tank also can have more real estate with some clever addition of real estate. Just gotta go slow now. 3rd tank is out of the question! no way at all. My place not as comfortable as CA's leh... but you are welcome to bring your princesses over... they can teach my boy (and new baby girl) a thing or two... while we talk reefing. Bro... you... always have a special place in my heart! *NB* damn gay sia! hahaha... but seriously. u gotta rekindle your love (read: spend some time) in reefing. Remember the rics craze?? I've recently came across some REALLY GEM TANKS... stunning gems, that made my jaw drop... i'm inspired to ensure i keep up with the tank husbandry! And onto the algae discussion... to a large extent, i agree having algae is good... thats the reason why my anorexic YT is now fat fat, even though i only feed my fish once a week! (up to 30 pellets only). Uh huh! i'm with you on this bro! but the problem i faced is worse... the film algae is growing on my frag rack, and growing over some of my sps/zoas. Not good... Sand bed... same problem... and i believe it all started when one head of a torch coral died and it's placed in a low flow area. So yah. that's the root cause. And after that i got lazy with WC. Not good at all.

Well. I've witnessed a MI munching a reefer's dragon-eye zoas. While we watched, it just finished up that few polyps.. But even then MI just doesn't survive long in captivity. Try it, then share with us ur experience?

Not many reefers I know works ard here though. Ray used to, until he shifted office to Changi. But his new office is now at cityhall area. So maybe can join us. And if eniram not working. Hi and welcome to reefing. Btw how did u find out that cloramine still exist when u set the tap water overnight? 1) In anycase, the recommendation is to use DI unit with close to 0 TDS reading. Someone here is selling a crystal pro set at good price (no TDS meter though).. Comes with rowaphos too.. RO/DI also can but be prepared to waste some water. You can also use bottled distilled water or those huge gallon bottle for top up. Just remember not to use "mineral water".. 2) when to do water change (WC)? Recommendation is 10% weekly. Anything else is up to you. There's no real rules.. Cos Ive heard of some who do not need to change water for years! 3) usually test salinity. If u r particular (eg keep SPS) then u should check ca/kh/Mg. Which u would already be doing since SPS requires these 3 to be relatively constant. Hope this helps. To sustain a good reef tank, always a good habit to keep these 4 elements in check. Plus ur temperature as well.

But bro, I dont mean bro klyve's photo skills so-so leh... Haha. What I meant was the being 2D, pictures can't show the real depth and varying sps depth placement.. See in real life, definitely more awesome than the pictures. Hopefully one fine day will get a chance to view the tank.

Bro is ur TDS meter ok? The last we measured was a low 30 or 50+ for your tap water right? How come suddenly jump so much?? Usually if after DI, if the reading is still high >10, I'll change all 3 cartridges.

Yo Jeremy. For me.. It'll be KH. I observed that occasionally when my kh drops below 7, the polyps are usually not fully extended. So now my lime green Millie is my visual kh "test kit"..

Mike, after seeing ur awesome tank (not just the gems, but also the excellent condition they are in), shared with Ced that it inspire me to make sure i maintain my tank! Back to ur topic, I haven't got a clue how to catch ms bell in ur extremely packed tank! I just hope ur very nice SPS staghorn will not be "shortened" during the process.. And... The copperband, I have 2 small and 1 big aiptasia in my holding tank.. Placed it in, and the next morning (yes, less than 10hrs later in darkness) the 2 small ones are GONE! Real hardworker. But it seemed to have not seen the big one (near water surface).. Btw, I will be out of home for the next few days... Wifey just delivered today... so can't monitor the status of the tank. Keeping my fingers crossed..
