Due to some personal preference and partial feng shui (geomancy) reasons.. the new tank will be in the same spot where the current tanks are... this became the biggest headache in the entire project. Gave some corals away, sold some and temporary housed some with my brother in law.. Still kept quite a few in some blue tubs and drum... courtesy of pinnacle and larry (forum owner).. thanks guys! The blue tub became a holding tank plus sump for the frag tank. Due to the huge mess and potential hazard.. my kids had to stay with my parents... while I tear down the tanks, wait for new one, cycle and re-load all corals and fish... my wife had to put up with this mess and the inconveniences... So for this, I owe her a big one!

Choosing of liverocks turned out to be quite a lucky thing.. found 6 huge pieces (totalling 30kg) from T95.. one of them was over 12kg. Huge piece with lots of crevice which is good for small fish to hide...
-
Forgot to add... as I will not be using sand.. I've incorporated an underflow and overflow concept as seen in the earlier pic... which proved to be a good move to auto-siphon detritus..
-
And once this was settled... confirmed my tank order.. the rest... is history. Will take about 2 weeks for delivery. Next steps to decomm tanks and buy new rocks...
-
Next up.. pipe work.. I'll like to use only 2 pumps... reason: reduce heat and provide redundancy... Drawing... this is courtesy of eniram's consultancy work... plus adaptation from hotsoup's... For overflow, I'll like to use 2x40mm to control the noise instead of durso...

As I wanted my own sump design, spoke to a few reefers( Jacky, kiko, eniram, comycus, ray, desideria, ketchup and ah siang)... and sketched out the sump.. And this is the better schematic... What I like about this sump: 1) L-shaped overflow cover that makes removal of filter sock effortless. 2) hosting compartment on the front left to temporary house fish/corals... 3) Skimmer and FR at the front right for easy maintenance and "display"

After speaking to Cedric and hotsoup, it became a 5... Changed the side cabinet.. to have a balanced 4 doors...

Here are some drawings which I received from tank maker.. Started as a 4 footer with side cabinet...

Yo yo.. fellow fanatics ... I'll like to reply individually however tapatalk isn't exactly able to reply multiple quotes, (or perhaps I don't know how to use)... plus no point chalking up additional posts.. so I'll summarize by saying.. Thank you for your support! Hope this will be informative for you..

This will be the journal for my first foray into the big tank scene... The main objective is to share my experience (right or not-so-right), so that it can benefit new reefers...

Haha.. ced, there's always some secret corner... I'll still keep always despite my recent love with angels. I've cleared 90% of my blue tub... this weekend will clear frag tank... The headache now is the fish introduction sequence...I've posted last night for advice... Next week should be all cleaned up... keeping fingers crossed...

wilsontantw replied to wilsontantw's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Bro... thanks for taking time to share your experience and knowledge. Much appreciated.. I Am trying to go slow.. but both specimens look too good to pass.. I was rash with the purchases, but it was a calculated risk (of sorts) haha... Hope to hear from more masters soon... In the mean time, im bringing out my leftover egg crate... box building time... -
Cedric... my tank is not ready for this goodie... but I'm sure you'll keep a frag somewhere right? Gimme 2 months to settle down k? I'll visit u before cny, haiya, might as well during cny? Jer, I Am using ATI PM 4 tubes currently.. it's really a piece of power lighting. No horse run.. Now that radion is out of stock, I'm considering Razor..

angels newbie question
wilsontantw replied to wilsontantw's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Oops... the queen and blue are only Day 2... Should I wait one more day??? Perhaps I should.. so far the fish look OK, eating well. I'm concerned the imprisonment in betabox will do more harm than good.. Thanks Gary for sharing ur experience... Open to hear more suggestions and advice... -
Help needed in setting up tank from zero
wilsontantw replied to Kakani's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Dear kakani, For ur budget of $5k for 3x2x2, you can achieve quite a lot. brand new tank should be are $1.5k. Skimmer, ard $500 new Pump, ard $250 new Chiller, ard $500 used FRs and media for biopellet and rowaphos, ard $250 Lights, ard $400 used This leaves you with $1600 to get live rocks, fish, corals... save more, go for used items, but ensure u know how to test equipment.. it's buyers beware... Hth.. +1 for puppet for a very detailed reply... -

angels newbie question
wilsontantw replied to wilsontantw's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Larry, solo and mengyang, thanks so much for ur very prompt reply.. So in terms of aggression, it's blue face, queen, blue? from most aggressive to least? How about if I'll like to add emperor and French in future? Is that advisable? Given constraints, I'll like to have these in preference ... 1) queen (beta box - 3 wks at Cf, I just got it 2 days ago) 2) blue (sump tank - 3 wks at LCK) 3) emperor (looking) 4) french (looking) 5) blueface (in holding tank - 1 month) 6) rock beauty (looking) Tangs 1) AT (looking) 2) PBT (in holding tank) 3) YT (in tank) Pygmy angels 1) lemon peel hybrid (in beta box now) 2) flame angel (looking) 3) potteri (looking) 4) coral beauty (in tank) Is this too many? thanks for reading and hope to get ur advice... I'm planning to release the queen tonight and upgrade the blue from sump to main tank beta box.. the blue is very aggressive when feeding.. I hope it wouldn't injure the queen.. -
Dear angel fish experts, How possible is it to keep the blue and queen angel together? Shall I introduce queen first (ideal showfish)? Followed by blue? The blue is almost reaching adult colours, close to 4". Queen is just turning adult, abt 3.5". Oh yes, I would like to transfer my 3" blue face from existing tank too.. All 3 are pellet eating.. Thanks and appreciate advice from the experienced angel keepers.. New tank is 5'. Other "big" fish are YT and PBT...
