  1. Firstly, like to thank all the wonderful people out there who helped me to restart my hobby (after 4 years). During this period of time, i've been busy preparing for my new job, new life, new house, new car... haiya, everything new lah... So had to give up the marine hobby (which is good, coz i was just merely trying out previously). Tried lion fish, clown fish, yellow tang (fav), even a special tank for mantis shrimp! Yes, i've got 2 of them!!! Now that everything's settled down, it's time to restart, had hope to do a 4/5 footer... but the equipment & maintenance costs just dwarfed my ambitions. Small can be beautiful too right? hehe... Anyways, i'm sure we all have more than 1 hobby... so i dun think i can afford to spend too much on this. I still want to enjoy my cigar + macallan whisky nights. So now, with special mention to: Andrew (not a forum member): thanks for driving the lorry from bedok to jurong west... helping me to carry the tank and cabinet... and driving at 60kph half way across the island to ensure we both and the tank gets back in perfect condition. Simon (fellow colleague/neighbour): for helping me kick-start the tank, working till wee hours of the morning. And always keeping me posted on equipment/good lobangs on SRC! Simon (my bro-in-law): for sharing with me precious info on a good and reliable setup. (Especially on the type of fish to get). Hon (my client!!! haha): for passing me the really nice HUGE piece of Dead LR. It really helped in my rescape. You'll see in the upcoming posts... Last but not least, Sunny: thanks for selling me the tank plus all those freebies. You really are a very nice guy. Honest seller with great integrity. ==================================================== Enuff of Oscar's speech! Here's it comes... CHAPTER ONE - Finding the right tank About 2 months back, i started hunting for a new tank for my home, hoping to be in time for CNY! It's going to be a new talking point. With the plentiful resources from SRC's pasar malam section (kudos to the administrators for keeping SRC alive after all these years). Found a few options ... Ranging from 2 ft cube -> 4 ft partition... Then started reading up more about the new technology (FRs, CRs... etc... Gosh, now they even have computers to control feeding/dosing/ sms you when tank leaks?!?!?) Anyways, i'm not exactly a millionaire, so gotta plan budget... After doing my sums... I realised, maybe a slightly smaller tank will do... Thru some coincidence, managed to buy 2.5' x 2' x 2' tank on sale, and bought it the same day i viewed it. Tank is almost perfect condition. Only that it's been used before, i'll rate it 9.5/10! (0.5 for being 2nd hand) After all the dismantling, carrying, pushing, loading into the lorry, and driving at 60kph across the island... Managed to reach by home at around 11.30pm! by the time we finished moving the tank up 12 floors, and connect up, it's almost 2am in the morning. So off we went for supper. No more messing with the tank till the next day. Tank specs: 2.5' x 2' x 2' main tank with cabinet and sump + Aquabee 5000 return pump + CL650 + MH+T5+moonlight + JBJ Auto top-up with reservoir Here's the sump (very well ventilated) See the big lobang at the back! The tank comes with an Aquabee 5000, tee-off to CL650 chiller. Chiller is nicely housed in the white cabinet next to main tank. Neat huh! Dun take my words for it, all these came with the tank. Sunny, i dunno what else to say but... THANKS AGAIN! Great guy! Coming up next... Chapter 2 - Setting up of the tank.
  2. Iwarna is opened. Nothing much, but they've got good specimens of luminus green open brain (small size).
  3. Bro, you wanna do tonite? Coz i wun be sleeping early anyway. If okie, i'll sms u my addy.
  4. Am selling a half-black angelfish. (I'm not too good at estimating fish sizes, but i'll put it at 1.5" from head to tail.) Eating Henry's gourmet food. Love the fish, but have to let go, as i'm slowly adding more softies. This is a very nice specimen. It's got very distinct orange outline around the eyes and fins. (Fish in perfect condition) However, be warned that it will (once in awhile) nip on buttons, etc... Going at only $6! Fish now in betta box. Just caught it when rescaping tank. Details of Half Black Angel Conditions of sale: 1) Your tank must be ready (i.e. fully cycled) 2) FCFS (I'm staying in bedok reservoir), my only available timing is at night... due to work constraints. 3) Please try not to bargain price, becoz im selling with regrets, as i bought it for my CFO. 4) Naturally, you're able to view before committing. Not happy with the fish, we shake hand, be friends. Happy, we shake hands, exchange fish with cash, and still be friends! wilson
  5. Thanks for all your responses. Chiller sold.
  6. I have a MH for sale: http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=67393 Bought this like 1 week ago from a fellow reefer. I've not used it at all. I believe he's used it for a couple of years. New bulb. wilson
  7. Hi all, Have a Giesemann 250watt Gold colour pendant for sale. Comes with a DE bulb. (Can't remember what K it is). Guarantee 100% working condition! Bought from a good friend and fellow reefer, but couldn't find a place to hang, thus bought another MH with stand. Didn't even have the chance to power up this excellent fixture at home. Looking at $180 (non-negotiable) - coz that's the price i paid to him. (i'm not making any profit at all). Viewing available at Bedok Reservoir Road (only at night). If no viewing needed, can arrange for pickup either at Bedok Reservoir or i'll bring the set to workplace @ Leng Kee Road. Please PM for offer. Thanks wilson
  8. Thanks to all for the PMs... Currently reserved by a reefer who's able to trade at the desired price. For those who requested for a lower price, i'm sorry if i didn't revert sooner, coz my colleague is quite in need of $$$ (to bao ang pow for CNY)... hahaha. Thus hope you understand. If buyer backs out, i'm inform the next in line. Thanks for all your interests... wilson
  9. If i remember correctly, nowadays, for car accidents, as long as there's no one hurt/involving public property (e.g. lamp - post/ street lights), there's No need to inform the police. It can be settled via the insurance company of both parties. Thus, in this case of your hit and run, my feeling is that it'll be at the bottom of their "to-do" list. Currently, their focus is to catch those drink-drive cases during this CNY period with "Ring-Fencing"... In retrospect, i share your pain.. It's just like those a**holes who left like multiple 'bullet hole dents' on my car! Hope you can manage to track him down and make him pay. If you have the time, just try to 'hang around' the area of accident around the same time... visit some of the carparks there... Maybe, just maybe, you'll get to see him. Will help you keep a look out for that silver vios. Not too difficult to spot (silver with black rims) Got any bodykit or spoiler? It'll help...
  10. Thanks to you guys! Appreciate it so much. This really confirms my suspicions! Will clarify with the seller. I saw some place selling aquabee needlewheel impellers, can i just change the impeller?? I suspect not, coz the NW impeller looks bigger in diameter. regards wilson
  11. I have a question for HnS users (past or present)... I recently got a 2nd hand HnS skimmer that comes with an aquabee 3000 pump. It seems like the pump is way too powerful for the skimmer (sealife website rates the skimmer this as using a aquabee 1000) Here's the question, should the pump come with a normal impeller or a needle wheel impeller? Coz the pump i got from the seller is using a normal impeller, and it doesn't have an airtube connected to the pump... In another words, i can't seemed to produce the right amount of bubbles to effectively use the skimmer... Any comments any one?
  12. Funny, i did a search for DSB before, and the results were nil. Thus this post. I guess i left out the asterix! I have 2 other questions to see if anyone can help... (anyone has experience this like me? When i just dump the LRs into the tank before putting in the sand). 1) Can i place the aragonite sand as the bottom-most layer? follow by the rest of the normal Grade 3 sand? 2) Should i remove all rocks and restack them after i've done my DSB? Or can i just pour the sand it and let it level itself? Well, i guess another 2-3 weeks is required to seed the DSB now...
  13. Will 2 or 3" do just fine? From my understanding, i can actually put aragonite as the bottom most layer, then overlay the normal sand above it. Is it correct? Now a noob question... as you can see, my LR is already in the tank... so the qn is: Do i have to remove all my rocks, lay the DSB before i lay the rocks on the sand? Or can i just dump the sand in, i.e. let the sand cover the bottom part of the LRs? now... where's that "Dummys guide to DSB"???
  14. i'm quite inclined with sand bed, but just that i dun think i can afford a DSB of 4" with aragonite... I'm thinking of doing a 1" or 2" sand bed. I also heard of ppl saying that DSB may cause a tank crash if it's not properly done up.
  15. Im currently in the cycling stage of my 2.5' x 2' x 2' (EOS+sump). Now cycling with LR. Question here is, i'm quite inclined to do it without any sand (T95's old ah peh says dun waste time with live sand). But i also have concerns if my LR drops on the glass, oh oh... besides having a sand bed gives it a natural look. For those who says yes to Live Sand, what will be good? I understand that there's some place selling 'live sand' in packets (ready to use without washing)... does anyone knows where is the cheapest for that? I'm planning to do mainly LPS + school of YT or school of Chromis + YT + flame angel Preview of my tank. Less Hood + MH fixture.
  16. Hi Richie, Thanks, i'm actually checking out for a friend... i doubt he will need the stand. Nonetheless, if u ever do consider selling just the tank, do let me know... (PM will be great) regards wilson
  17. Have a 1.5 yr old Resun CL650 for sale (for a fellow colleague). It's used to power up a nano tank (12G). Used in office (leng kee road). As office is air-conditioned, the unit is rarely in action (except during weekends or holidays). Price: $250 (neg) Buy this week, and get a 10% discount + FREE PUMP (Dolphin 2000l/h)! Please self-collect at Leng Kee Road. Kindly PM for any clarifications.
  18. This is a nice piece of custom built furniture wor. Somemore just re-upholster. Lai ah lai ah...
  19. Hi All, Just managed to settled down after spending the past few years recuperating from wedding/new house expenses... Now got budget to get back to the hobby. Recently bought a very very nice 2.5'x2'x2' tank from a very nice reefer. Kept his tank in tip-top condition. Bought some live rocks, curing in my toilet (2 full styrofoam boxes). Looking if some kind reefer here has any live sand to give away or a token sum. I'm planning to do up a 2" sandbed. Preferably grade 1 or 2. If anyone here has some to give away, pls do PM me. I'm staying in bedok reservoir area and working around leng kee road. Preferably can collect evening this week, so i can at least have a cycled tank this coming CNY. (counting down liao...) thanks wilson
  20. Hi can i check a few things? 1) Can the pump be used externally? I.e. outside sump. 2) How 'old' is this pump? 3) do you know if the 6540 is suitable to power up Resun CL650 (for a 2.5 ft tank only)?
  21. Hi richie13, would you consider selling without the stand? Also, would it be possible for you to show what modifications were done? a pic will do just fine. thanks wilson
  22. Actually i dunno both of them, i just felt that in this instance, reservation means nothing, unless there's some special relationship with the boss. It's unlike dinner table reservation. I'm a regular at a particular bar, have a regular table... but even then, i may not get it all the time, coz there's always others more 'regular' than me. So if i don't get my table... do i go jump at that customer who's sitting at 'my' table??? Think about it. Now that i look back, maybe i'm just being extra by posting my comments... but i hope both of them will just chill off... it's just a fish... Not like it's some rare species. Shake hands and be friends... My personal belief ah... when you have 1 new friend, you get 1 less enemy. Cheers wilson
  23. Hi, maybe im being a nosey poker, but do allow me to share my $0.02 1) Kudos to you, take leave to chiong shipment! I can feel your passion and dedication to the hobby, and that i personally salute you for that. 2) On a separate note, IMHO, if i have taken the time to chiong shipment, i would have taken the fish/coral/whatever back. Leaving it there, is no guarantee that the next time you come back, it'll still be there... What if it died? Then you going to sue the shop owner for allowing it to die? Unless that shop owner is your relative or real good friend. Just curious... did you pay a deposit?? 3) Even if you did pay a deposit, its the Shop Owner would should put the reserved stock away from public view, or even put a reserved tag. Whoever that swop the fish, is NOT at fault, coz he/she doesn't know that it's reserved for you. And btw, he's running a business, the first one to arrive and pay for it, is his... What if you don't go back for it? It's an open market lor... 4) The funny thing is, you mentioned the shop owner told you QUOTE "I realised that it had been swapped by another reefer (Pra**_Lover), you should know who you are cos the boss told me" UNQUOTE, that itself, is a flawed accusation. If you told the boss to reserve, and he still let another buyer swopped it and even told you about it... Shouldn't you tell the shop owner off??? 5) If i were you, i would have gone after the shop owner and not the person who "allegedly" swop the fish. I would even blame myself for not taking the fish back! Just to add, i'm no friend to any one mentioned in this instance, just thought i share my thoughts... Sorry if i offended you or anyone else.
  24. Forgot to add, any decent offer will be considered! So if you're interested, why not try your luck... haha... PM me your reasonable offer! Thanks Wilson
