  1. Bro, It's very painful to know that i paid like so much for a lobo! But then again, u'r right... happy can liao! Coz the colours are really nice. <sunny> quite sad to know, but it's okie lah... too bad... maybe i'll go back to the LFS and be a little thickskin and 'check' with the boss... Sunny ah... if you ever drop by town/east side/or even anywhere near to redhill, can bring along the K2? From what i see now, my tank needs a lot more circulation... just dunno if i should get a controllable type...
  2. Hi all, need some help with this coral ID. Recently bought from a LFS... It's rose-pink (slightly bubble skirting) + blue-ish/green mouth. The skeleton is spikey...
  3. Wa... very painful when i read your post... but really appreciate your honest ID. Better to know the truth than look stupig when i tell ppl prata/cyna.... right? Yes, i dose iodide/trace/etc... regularly, but always below the recommended dosage+frequency. For KH and calcium, i've yet to fire up my CR, thus still doing my weekly calcium dose. Wish i had read up more before i buy! Nevermind lah... pay to learn a lesson. Dun think i'll post the LFS shop, i always go there, and usually no problems... when i bought it, the boss was not around... while i was quite certain it's not a prata, the guy manning the shop said it is, and quote me (somewhere near 2bluenotes). Much as i feel like a carrot, i somehow feel it's not a lobo. The lobo that i know of, does not have spikey skeletons... But yah, like you said, it comes in different shape and sizes... maybe i shall try to post in the ID thread.. see if i can get more positive ID. Thanks dude!
  4. Actually my YT is like super fat... if u see it, u'll feel that the poor guy is finding it tough to find good swimming space in my tank. Thus, i'm trying to reduce the LR to create more swimming space... I'll be creating one more bridge on the RHS to prepare for SPS and create more 'layers'. This should create a more 3D feel to the tank. Like to share some N95-ed shots, dun think it can show the depth of feel much... (LHS, RHS, and FTS)... The Left Side: LHS The Right Side: RHS The Front: FTS: 080409
  5. Personally i feel ventilation grooves would not help much... An analogy: Imagine you put your aircon compressor in your living room (instead of the aircon ledge). No matter how many windows lourves you open... unless there's wind blowing in and out of your house, the hot air is still going to be circulating in your house. Personally, i left my chiller outside the tank, have a nice little 'cover' for it, but it's not used unless there're guests... wilson
  6. Good stuff, no wonder they look pretty clean, yet has some coraline algae... All the best dude! And now for the fun part of reefing! shopping!!!!
  7. Hi Sonic, pls dun say that... my tank is just very basic. As you can see, i have a CR, but unused... haha... no denitrator. Just relying on a really powerful skimmer. Besides that, approx. fortnightly 10% water change. (If i can, i try to do it weekly). Instead of denitrator, i'm planning to have a mini mangrove tree or even some chaeto, but am thinking of finding out more before i proceed further. Eh, i tried hunting for your tank pix... can't find leh... share with me? I wanna get some tips on scaping... trying to see how i can keep sps and yet, maintain some basic LPS + softies.
  8. Hi White Tiger, just wondering, wouldn't it be advisable to cycle with the LR in tank? What i understood was that cycling with LR will allow the bacterias to cultivate on the LR and Sand? So are you planning to cycle somemore with the LR? But i must admit, you're really patient to wait 2 weeks, just to see nothing but water + sand... Thumbs Up for you! For me, i just dump LR + sand (some are from other matured tanks)... throw in bacteria starter, and cycle for 1-2 weeks... After that, 6 baby chromis are added to tank... to date, only 2 of the 6 are left... haha... But they're growing on strong. Rock scape wise, it seems like the slope is a little steep to place corals(come attached with rocks) firmly... you may wish to ensure the bridge it's a flat horizontal piece, rather than sloping... (my 'Arena' was sloping on both sides, it's really tough to place corals, unless you use any bonds/adhesive stuff.)
  9. Imagine, using your finger nails to crack open a snail's shell... the mantis can do it in one move. Putting my hand in the tank... haha.. no way dude! If i remember correctly, a peacock mantis cost like $5 from Reborn? Or issit $15, cannot remember liao wor... it's been at least 4-5 years ago. Yes, you can still keep corals but not recommended... Coz the mantis typically will help you shift the stuff... mantis likes to burrow into the sand, and he'll move LRs above the burrow to 'take cover'. Thus, not recommended to have corals...
  10. OH TMD! Errr... can advice me what's an average price of a Cynarina that i've got? I really hope i wasn't 'con' or 'chop carrot'... (PM will do). Sigh, nevermind, still quite nice colour lah... <Peacemaker> Actually, yes, when we look at the photos, the arena looks good, however, if you view the tank itself, this one looks better. Arena doesn't allow the fish to swim inbetween rocks. this one allows a good see-thru, swim-thru for the fish. And yes, you're right, it does allow more corals to be placed on the LRs. But truth be told... i'm already planning another rescape soon... hehe. <SonicFrank> I'm also trying to fire up the CR... but no time to figure out how to do it... will try for next 2 weeks. Btw, i'm already trying one SPS frag... hehe... see if you can spot it.
  11. Thanks to all the PMs... As my timing is really 'nonsensical', as Ryanlio is able to collect both zoas+yuma, thus i've given him the priority. I'm sorry i'm unable to reply all PMs... Thanks for your kind support. Status Update: 1) Zoas1 > Reserved by Ryanlio 2) Zoas2 > Reserved by Ryanlio 3) Purple Torch > $28 Still available (PM best offer) 4) Green Yuma > Reserved by Ryanlio 5) Favia > $50, still available (PM me best offer, hope to clear by this sat morning, coz i've got new stuff coming in the afternoon... need space! lotsa it)
  12. Thanks bro... you interested for the favia? Let me know, i recently just bought some other stuff, collecting this weekly.... thus, need to quickly clear before this weekend.
  13. Oh yah... i used to feed mollies to them, then buy turbo snails for them... wah.. expensive to maintain... There was once, just for the fun of it, i bought a blue lobster to see who will win... they fought for a good 30mins, taking breaks in between (maciam those old-skool kungfu show). Eventually, Mantis lost one of it's hammer. Lobster lost it's life.
  14. It's better for you to pour out all the water into a pail, you should have a little pump for circulation. Else it'll become stale water. Just wondering, if it's a small tank, why dun you just buy by per plastic bag, that one should be $1 per pack. Even if cannot finish, just throw away. (also not too heart-pain). The other alternative is to set up another nano? Maybe to keep predator fish? like lionfish/frogfish/mantis shrimp... just a thought...
  15. That is a very good shipment. I have one myself... it just eats and eats... big and healthy! Upz for you!
  16. Wow, your 2' setup is nice... all LS doing really well... I like your new setup... 3 sided tank is very difficult to scape (my tank is also 3-sided), so far, i've only managed to scape 2 sides. I agree with shootsimon, your chiller is going to need cool air intake + blow a out lot of hot air. If it's housed like this, i think the expelled hotair is going to stay within the cabinet, causing the chiller to take in hot air. (overwork) Maybe you can an hot-air extraction fan or put a small fan at the front of the chiller to blow in cold air, and hot air out. Another suggestion, you may wish to channel your chiller return back to your main tank, instead of returning to sump. Since it's cold water, why waste it by sending it back to the warmer sump area... just dump directly into the main tank. (It has the additional benefit of generating waterflow into the tank). Finally, headroom, must ensure that your lights are 'retractable' so that you can have enough clearance when putting in LRs. HTH. More pix more pix...
  17. thanx bro... If really can't sell, then i guess have to frag into smaller pieces and place them on different parts of the tank (zoas + mushrooms) For favia... really hope it goes to some nice tank. Found a good place for torch, think i'll be keeping it for the time-being.
  18. *shake hand* i totally agree with you. For something that looks so good... it's a ferocious hunter! (Swift and deadly) - is this some army unit's slogan?? heck it, anyway... There're 2 main groups of mantis (based on my limited knowledge). 1) the smashers - more common ones... they use the 'hammer' to knock it's victim unconscious before consuming it... lovely. 2) the piercers - this group uses it's 'spears' to pierce thru it's victims, pulling them into their burrows....
  19. Just for the heck of it... summarising the growth/progress of my tank from the day i re-started in late Jan 08 till now. FTS: 080202 - aka The Volcano FTS: 080316 - aka The Arena FTS: 080407 - aka Err... running out of names liao. This one no concept. Just want to create more caves and bridges... So let's call it... The Bridges!
  20. Some things that swim in this 2.5x2x2 mini reef. Didn't managed to catch the ruby head fairy wrasse lah! Shy fish, always hide when i whip out my N95. Must try to find a way to shoot fish, do you guys say "1-2-3" to the fish while shooting them?? Mine doesn't seemed to stay still leh!
  21. Okie... and the final piece of my new purchases for the weekend... Luminous green flesh + bright pink tip! Not so shit-load, but still very expensive (my pocket is very shallow only). Elegantly yours!
  22. Please tell me this is a prata! I paid like shit-load for this piece... Pix taken 10mins after coming home from LFS. Should be worth it i hope... Now, it's slowly opening up.
  23. Now, for the new purchases after the rescape! First up... managed to lay my hands on this unique multi-coloured moon... oh well... lousy shot... repositioning of corals needed!
  24. Cup-a-soup anyone?? Taking the centrestage of the tank.
