  1. But is there anyone who has a pH meter and can loan it to me for a few days? Preferably east sider. Or does anyone has a working but not too costly piece to sell?
  2. hi thairun and terryz, im not too sure what clown they are, just that i bought them when they were really tiny (coz they look cute). Let me know if ur keen. (hi thairun, not sure if u remember me?) here's a link to the black clown when they were babies: Tank Thread - Feb 08 the below shots were taken abt 2 days back. 1) That's the type of black clown 2) the YT didn't really grow much, but the clown has more than doubled their size!
  3. 1) I have a Ruby head fairy wrasse for sale. more info Its now grown up and i kinda need more space for other fish. Feeding on pellets. nice deep red coloration. Approx 3". Price: $20 2) 3x spotted cardinals more info - approx: <1". feeding on pellets. Price: one for $5. all 3 for $12. 3) Pair of Black Clowns for sale (pls offer ur best price) - kept them since they were baby (with yellow fins), colour changed when they grew up. Female: 3", male 2.5". (Their white bars have some red coloration due to hosting RBTA.) Note: RBTA not for sale. Price: Best price gets the clowns Important Note: 1) I prefer to have one buyer for all 3 items. (Or at least collect on the same day due to lack of space to 'trap' fish, once they are caught. 2) All fish still in main tank, earliest possible trade is next thursday evening or sunday. (pending whether i can rescape my tank again on Wed night) 3) All fish NOT suitable for nano tanks except spotted cardinals. (due to size) 4) I should have the right to decide whether or not to sell fish to buyer. Collection: bedok reservoir road. P/s: I'll try to post some photos if needed.
  4. Thanks Lemon boy, i also think it's a lot neater this way. The best part is, i used to have a lot of rubbish all over the house... now everything and i mean everything!!! is hidden in the cabinet. Shiok. All equipment are also kept nicely, neatly, orderly. Hehe... My wife was the first person to clap when it was done. Luckily we are not that pan-tang (superstitous), coz this cabinet was constructed while she was 8 months pregnant. (she's since given birth to a healthy boy... he's going to 1 month in 5 days time!).
  5. Dude, pls let me check with the contractor first... coz this was a 'one-off' thing that he kinda helped me, out of favour. If he's comfortable, i'll post his price. Hint: it's not 4-digit.
  6. In the mean time, i've sold on Reggie the Regal Tang. Little Reggie has been with me for almost 1 year, and he grew from a 20c coin size baby to a full grown (6") adult. He's now happily staying in a "bungalow". In replacement of him, came Pablo the Powder Brown Tang, and came PoPo the Purple Tang and Colin the Kole Tang (hard to get a good pix of him). Here's PaBlo with dr. wrasse (wrasse been with me for over 1 year, it eats nori too!) Popo Frederick the Flame Angel - look at the strip patterns (it's still in 'confinement', already feeding pellets now.)
  7. During the 8 months while im away from SRC, i did some changes to the tank... 1) Shifted it's location (3rd time within the year) 2) Give it a new look. woo hoo... 3) Traded SPS for other lower-maintenance corals. Sold away a couple of fish that out grew the tank and bought several new ones. Here's where the tank used to be (the translucent one was it's first location), and it's 2nd location. And i believe this will be it's final location and built a cabinet over it, that comes with a new hood. With this, also created a new storage area, everything is now so well hidden, wife is happy. In fact, i think the money is very well-spent.
  8. Day 1 - 23 Jan 09 Some algae spotted near the overflow area (a few visible ones on the right and little bits on the left. Quite encouraged by this, so will wait and observe for the next 2 weeks.
  9. Hi Mr Lemon, i can share abit on my experience with Tangs... I've got a YT (5", over 1 yr), PBrownTang (4", 2 wks), PurpleTang (2.5", 5 days), Kole Tang (1.5", 3 days). Here's what i usually do when i buy a new fish... 1) New fish will be acclimitise by place into confinement box (if it comes with top-cover, i'll sink it to middle of the tank), if not, at the top will do. 2) While in confinement, i will feed the fish pellets (usually about 5-8 pellets every 2 hrs). 3) Typically, the fish will eat on the 3rd feed. (Some eat on 1st feed). 4) Once the fish starts eating, they will have a stronger chance to survive (even if there's in-fighting). But my latest additions, the PT was accidently released before he completes his 10 days training (he's only been trained for 2 days)... Immediately YT and PBT attacked him... However, i also release the Kole at the same time to 'divert attention' on PT. The next day (Thurs), Kole and PT had slight torn fin. However, by this evening, i realised they are now living together in peace. Though there'll still be some occassional 'catching'... the fishes are largely quite 'kind' to each other. This i guess was becoz both the PT and Kole had been trained to eat pellets and nori seaweed while they are being 'confined'. My believe is that as long as they are eating well, they will recover from the attack and grow stronger. (Image an 1.5" Kole fighting with a 5" YT). Anyway, this is just my personal experience, may not work for all. The mirror trick also works... I.e. place a mirror so that the fish is tricked into thinking there's another one of it's kind. He'll then be engrossed to fight it's own.
  10. bro, let me measure the dimensions in my overflow box first. Gotta make sure it works. SM: thanks for the advice on the lighting... am going to ensure sufficient lighting to make the algae grow...
  11. Thanks Creetin, was trying to find where i can get one of those to 'power up' my scrubber light.
  12. Thanks for your reply SM. This is a lazy man's design. You are right on many counts! 1) i dun have control over the overflow. (i'm using an Aquabee 5000 return pump, so that should be the flow rate). 2) There's really no 'real power' in the light... i just recycled my sump light to try if this works for now. 3) The screen is also one-sided and relatively small. Har, but maybe the image doesn't show it well... the water does flow through (front and back) of the entire screen. Looks like a water fall... Fun Fact: it silences my overflow noise! Now it's so quiet i wonder if my overflow is blocked! I doubt i can use those bulb you show, unless i DIY a connector myself. A clip-on socket cannot be attached on my overflow box. But i do have an idea... (maybe i'll just hang the bulb - dangling in the middle of the box). I have high hopes on this... to reduce my skimmate and remove the nuisance algae!!! Will keep everyone posted.
  13. After reading all the great results and how easy this Nitrate and Phosphate (plus nuisance algae) removal, i also decide to get my hands dirty and DIY one. Thanks to SM for his clear instructions and many pix. And Raydiative for helping to buy the mesh for me. Here're some picture of what i did... Too lazy to do any reading tests... but took some pictures of the algae in my tank... so will rely on visual evidence. Skimmate from Beckett (1 month's worth)... Skin-care mud! muahaha... Using my existing overflow to house the 'scrubber'. Another view of the overflow. Inserting the scrubber. (hopefully the flow is sufficient) Installing the light. Am planning to run a reverse photoperiod (from 3am to 9pm) est. 18hrs for the initial 3 days. Seeded the scrubber with some in tank algae. Here's the 'visual evidence' - day 0 (22 Jan 2330hrs). Please comment.
  14. T5s are okie if the montis are near to the light source. (this is based on theory). 4x39W should suffice for T5s. But it also depends on how long is the photoperiod. I would suggest a min of 10hrs. You can try buying a small frag and try from there. But do ensure you've got enuff calcium... they are Ca suckers! hope it helps.
  15. nice to hear that it's working now! hey, your video, it's displaying wrong orientation when i tried to play it. besides you should keep it stable at 1 angle... now i see more the camera movement then the wave moment. haha. if i'm around cck, i'll definitely give u a call (can pm me your no.?)
  16. yeah, which is why im following your thread. am on the lookout for a wavebox now... either that or will diy one. But must first find a controllable power head. (which is not exactly very cheap if you count the controller + powerhead + photocell + the box). anyway, the main controller has one big knob (called the potentiometer). Apparently at the back of that controller, there is supposedly a slider to control the power? (the image is quite blur, can't figure out what it says, but if you have the controller, you should be able to see it. The chart is supposedly the size of the tank plus the resonance frequency setting (but this differ from tank shape and contents). here's a screen shot that i cut and paste from 2 pages. Really hope this helps... (if it works, can i pay you a visit to see how it works???)
  17. hi hi, im not a wavebox user, but have been doing some research on it... here're some tips (not sure if they'll work). 1) though not compulsory, it'll be good to have the top exposed (i.e. not fully submerge). 2) full power doesn't mean max wave. It must be at the full resonance. I.e. start from smallest and slowly tune up. 3) There're 2 other switches on the controller that you can use to tune it. hope this helps... and my tank is a 2.5'x2'x2'... am very interested to get one... either that or i'll DIY one. hehe.
  18. If you are keeping SPS or other expensive LPS, usually you will not use NSW. Coz you dunno what impurities there are. Marine salt, on the other hand, is pretty much 'controlled'. If you wish to check NSW, salinity is but just 1 of the many... e.g. Ca, Mg, kH, Phospate etc etc... I usually just go to 1 source for NSW, and i tested the salinity for the 1st few times, then i realised their water is consistently at 1.024! Amazing. So nowadays i dun really check. Another reason why i dont check is because we're only changing approx 10% of the total volume... so unless it's substantially lower, it will not affect the overall salinity.
  19. Dude, you're reviving my 'cobbed-web' thread... haha. (It's been over 8 months since i last updated my thread). i was thinking of posting my latest update, but didn't get down to transfering pix from camera to PC. haha... anyway, yes, i'm using MH. FL i doubt is sufficient for montis. Min u need is T5. Btw, my lightset is a solite dunno which model. It's got 250W DE MH (14kk) + 2xT5 (True actinic + Blue Plus) + 2xled moonlight. Oh yes, i'd decommed my SPS for a few months already, sold some and pass some to other reefer friends. (save $$ on lighting + supplements). It's now just a LSF tank (LPS + Softies + Fish).
  20. haha... 200?!? apologies, but im sure i got your attention with that. A few pointers to start you thinking (some you may have considered b4)... 1) How many jerry cans are you going to buy? 2) How many trips u wish to make? (petrol + time), dun forget u need time to empty the jerry cans before u can re-use them. 3) Where are you going to store the jerry cans after that? (or u can do a cheap sale here at SRC?) haha. 4) I would think a trolley would be very helpful (i dun have one, even though i stay on lift landing floor, still very siong). 5) Most importantly, what if accidently one of the jerry can spill over your car seat/boot? That one is worth more than $120 for sure. Personally, i feel a mixture would be ideal (i.e. buy 2 jerry cans and the rest use salt mix). That's what i did with my 2.5'x2'x2'.
  21. wah kao! 500+ litres... how are you going to do it yourself??? one jerry can = approx. 25l, you need like... at least 200 jerry can trips?? Dun carry NSW yourself lah, it's just too much... no point hurting yourself in the process. i think i know this place, can deliver NSW at $120 per trip(if i remember correctly). PM if you need more info. Or else, buy your own salt, get a long tube to connect to your tap water and mix with a super powerhead and let it settle down... (that's what i did). Of coz, you gotta deal with the phosphate thereafter, but should be no biggy. Throw in some dead prawn, 2 big pieces, let it cycle... But honestly, it's too close to CNY for such activity now, why don't you do it after CNY. hope it helps...
  22. huh? closed today? gosh, how about the shop at pasir ris (on the left after the downslope)? im planning to pay them a visit shortly sia.
  23. Hi i'm looking for 2nd hand Nano Wavebox, kindly PM me if you have one to sell.
  24. Dude, i've PMed him the specs...
