Here're some food you can consider: 1) Dr Basslett's pellets (more bang for your buck) 2) Henry's gourmet (that one is a sure work for your wish) 3) Nori dried seaweed 4) Feed more more more! How often do you feed your fish? i feed mine at least once a day. Sometimes up to 3 times a day with different mix. -
Mega Powerful Nitrate and Phosphate Remover - DIY!

Similar to Creetin... this is my update after 6 days of using scrubber. Good news is that during these 6 days, I'd reduced the usage of my skimmer to only Night Operation (when weather is cooler water doesn't get heated up too fast). I also clean up my return pipe outlet (took the chance to remove ALL the hair algae). Here're some shots of the scrubber - 6 days in operation... Since 22 Jan 2330 hrs. Date of pix take: 28 Jan 2330 hrs. I'm yet to have the time to hunt for a new lighting (it's still shining from the top), but i think to get optimal effect like Creetin, should get a warmer lighting and something that can spread the light evenly. Not sure if this is related, but i noticed my green and orange yumas are opening a lot bigger. There was a 'strange' zoa that came with the rock and it multiplied to 2. (will try to take a better pix tomorrow with MH lights). Thanks again SM... to those in doubt... please try it. It's a simple process. The other advantages that i personally experienced!.. My skimmer pump is working 1/2 a day, as a result chiller kicks in lesser and chills faster. One 45min ON-TIME to every 4.5 hours OFF-TIME. (Prev: 55min ON-TIME to every 3.5hrs OFF-TIME). My chiller temp is set to kick in at 27.5 and cut off at 26.3 degrees C. I will be doing my next set of water parameter test this coming weekend. Stay tune! -
nice nice! seems like someone went LFSing instead of house visiting during CNY long weekend huh... Hey, i'll be around CCK ave 2 this evening to meet a fellow reefer to collect some stuff, can i drop by after that? Should be ard 8 or so. Just for short while like 10-15mins only lah. Coz gotta rush home (bedok) after that. timing good?

i've got mushies (growing new polyps), zoas (growing new polyps)... but have never made it with GSP, hammer and elegance. at least for now the GSP is not receding liao... so i think that's 'some' improvement. Just hope i can find out what's wrong with my water parameter (besides the obvious PO4).
-
hi bro, thanks so much for the link! It's really helpful. Now i realised that some of my parameters are lower and not higher (or so i was misled by the test kit recommended levels). One lesson i'd learnt from Marine hobby is... READ!!!! and be PATIENT! these ARE the basic ingredients to successful hobby (not forgetting the ultimate one... MONEY!)

Bro, much as i would love to, think i better do it another time. This thursday is my boys actual full month day. So i better spend time with him. Furthermore need to prepare for Saturday's party... knew it's not going to be easy thing being a father. But thanks man, i will still need your help for the rescape. (When we both have time).
-
you sms me about Ian's full month party... and i replied you.... also asked if you're free to chat leh. Anyway, no worries bro... if u selling ur 'equipment', let me have the "first right of refusal" k? (Kalk Reactor seems like on the top of my list now). hehe.

Hi John, thanks for the tip. Just wondering if you do any measurements of before and after for PO4? My tank's PO4 is quite high, and i can already see algae on the scrubber within the next day. Btw: how often do you do the scrubber cleaning? -
I really dunno this GSP thing. It's supposed to be an 'easy' coral, but i never had luck with it. High flow, low light... low flow, low light... low flow, high light... high flow, high light... Here's what i tried doing (after some advice)... take the GSP rock and try to blow off the dust accumulated on it. The detritus could be preventing the polyps from opening. I did that, and now more polyps are opening. However, still not as much as i would expect... Sigh, dunno lah... now i'm showering it with coral food almost daily... What else is needed for GSP to grow? (anyone?)

funny yah... i think the calcium dose that im using is quite good. (it's the one from brightwell, bought from ML). Mg and kH, is mine too low? If compared against the 'guidelines' given in the test-kits, mine's considered high... Anyway... will note down to bump up my Mg and kH. PO4, definitely must be near zero. Am doing a lot more to lower it. Beckett skimmer + scrubber + mangroves (on the way)... Now im even considering a kalk reactor... hehe. Truthfully, i've been neglecting the 'supplements' for a few months. And my feeding for the fish got heavier... that explains the sudden burst of algae in the main tank. On top of that, i realised ive not been changing my carbon and Sorb4 for about 4 months! haha... Must have leeched out all the PO4 back into the tank. tsk tsk tsk... So now gotta do a lot of remedy action. Errr... so far i've yet to experience problems with my fish... coz normally i will not pour LFS water into my tank. (unless it's the same place where u buy NSW for water change lah)... Though i dun really quarantine the fish, i'll cage them in the main tank. If there are any problems, i'll can get them out immediately. So probably thats how im quite "touch-wood" ok so far. Hopefully things will get better for you.

Finally got down to doing a water parameter check after a long time. Here're the results: Salinity: 1.022 (Refractometer) All salifert Ca: 650 (opps.. too high) Mg: 1050 (opps too high) kH: 10.6 (oppps too high) PO4: 3 (oppps too high) - in a bad way which explains my high algae growth in the new scrubber. pH: still unknown (can't find one in time). Everything is high!! no test kits for ANN. Should be okie, else all my fish will be dead by now.
-
yeah... im also using a beckett right now. (it's skimming a lot of stuff out). i think i'll try the mangrove, together with the scrubber for now. can i take 20 of the mangroves?
-
Bro, just to check, does this need lighting? Or do i just need to leave it in the sump? reverse photoperiod? My phosphate level is kinda shooting thru the roof, am implementing everything i can find to lower it. Scrubber, Sorb4, (hoping to try mangrove too). If doesn't need much lighting, i would like to get 20.

i wanted to call u to chat but u didnt reply me sms wor.. it's next sat... not sun. dun come on the wrong day...

Managed to take a shot near his 'home'. He sleeps in a hole in my base LR. catching him would mean a rescape (which im planning to do after CNY). Chubby fish. Note: the fish colour is not "BRIGHT" red. It's a relatively active fish... pls provide adequate swimmning space.
-
saw on their website that TK is closed till Wed, but JK is open thru out.
-
i love sun corals. just that im not sure why i have not had consistent record with them. I just did one round of water parameter test... quite shocking... read my thread later in the afternoon for more details... now rushing to AM-JK to buy a pH meter and rush to buy some water for water change before CNY comes. good luck on the ich... maybe can get your fish to feed on Henry's gourmet and pellets... i think it helps.
-
Huh... that's okie pricing leh... i thought i saw someone buying a pH monitor for $100 or so... Am dropping by later to their JK branch to get the pen. anyone knows the disadvantages on the $30 pH pen? issit becoz u cannot re-calibrate later? or it's inaccurate?
-
hey lemon... finally get to see your tank. ur tank got lotsa potential! too much empty spaces liao. Slowly stock up and enjoy the fun of slowly doing it. dun rush... love the sun coral (from Henry?) Think you can afford to have some Tangs in your tank... want a Powder Brown? i've recently bought one, but not sure if it's something that i may want for long term... haha.
-
not bad mah... 1 year cleaner wrasse! seems like you have a 3 footer tank? gosh, 3" trigger fish, doesn't it disturb your corals? my bubble and gsp not opening fully yet. i suspect could be pH or calcium problem. Or maybe my phosphate and NO3 as well. Haiya, now just have to do everything i can... have been neglecting the tank for too long.

At least this 'addiction' keeps him at home.
-
if you have a contractor, you should ask him to build a 'skin-over' cabinet for you. It wraps over my existing stand and made it flushed to both walls. So now it looks like part of my deco. I also replaced my existing hood (which has a small design flaw). The guy who built my cabinet gave me a really good price, but it's more of a favour thing. I will check with him after CNY to see if he wishes to do for others. Whats ur tank size? any reference to your tank thread? And i love the Flame too. Pretty Unique stripes, i counted around 8 stripes on each side. maybe i'm ignorant, but i dun think i ever saw a flame with more than 5 or 6 stripes. Actually i have a coral beauty too, now im putting the flame to 'show' the coral beauty... so far not sure if they'll fight. But if coral bullies the flame, it's very obvious who i'll keep and who has to go. muahahaha.
-
thanks bro. i think kiddo's going to inherit this hobby. Everytime he cries, i'll carry him to the tank and he stops! Amazing. He keeps staring at the tank, though im not sure what he really sees... but it sure has a calming effect on him. So, now i can keep my tank in peace. And my boy's going LFSing with me when he learns to walk!

No probs... thanks for the ID. I also thought it's the common black clown.
