  1. Helfriches are so over-priced IMO. You must get something to cover the tank top to prevent it from carpet surfing, or it'll be a very expensive lesson to pay.
  2. Glad that yours is acting normally, but you do have a bigger tank. Mine would be pretty similar to Jacky's, 1.5 Ft cube display with lots of corals and other fishes, so territory is limited. The funny thing is I have not seen it chase other fishes other than the other purple firefish (I have 2) and the yellow wrasse. It doesn't touch the true perc juvenile pair, nor the neon goby. The 2 Yashia gobies are hidden in their caves most of the time, so no hostility there. Btw, they seem to hold their own quite well, opening up their huge jaws whenever any fishes swim too close for comfort.
  3. Extracted from LiveAquaria: The Purple Firefish, also known as the Decorated Firefish, Purple Dartfish, Decorated Dartfish, or Flame Firefish, was first discovered in the Indo-west-Pacific Ocean in 1973 by Randall and Allen. The colorful body base is varied degrees of yellow to white, and deep shades of purple which begin at the head and ends with maroon-tipped fins. It requires a 10 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of loose coral rubble as part of the aquascape, and a tight-fitting lid to prevent it from jumping out of the tank. It will rarely become aggressive towards other fish, but is territorial, and will fight with its own kind unless they are a mated pair. The Purple Firefish will feed mostly on prey suspended in the water column, but will pick food off the substrate. Its varied diet should consist of chopped or shaved seafood, frozen food preparations for carnivores, vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp. The vibrant coloring will fade if not fed a vitamin-enriched diet. Strange isn't it? I guess it has something to do with our tank size?
  4. Wow... yours sound like he's the bully of the tank...
  5. Yes, I have the same problem with TheBen timers. Only able to fit 2 pin plugs beside it.
  6. My purple firefish have been observed to show more aggression than my yellow wrasse... found it chasing the wrasse when they get real close, and they are just swimming out in the open. I always had this impression that wrasses were more dominant, but I guess things can happen differently. Size wise, they are both about the same, and the yellow wrasse was a longer resident in my tank.
  7. Happy 2010 to all! Its exactly 2 years and running for me as a member of SRC, and I'm just glad to be a part of this big family of reefers here. Have met and made many new friends, and I hope we could all continue to enjoy this hobby together. Reef on!
  8. Nice rock scape, but it will be a challenge to place your corals. You guys will probably need lots of epoxy or super glue gel.
  9. Pls kindly refer to the date of the last post. Its almost 3 yrs old.
  10. Corals lah, corals! 1 swimming banana doesn't count.
  11. You need some yellow in your tank.
  12. 18 LEDs each for white and blue, so it should be balanced...?
  13. A picture is better than a thousand words. Does anyone have photos of their display tank before and after using a scrubber? IMO, the scrubber is only worth exploring if it effectively removes nuisance algae from the display tank.
  14. Do show pics of the hanging equipment when it is set up? Would be interested to know how it is done.
  15. That was pretty low profile... but usually, it's shipment like these that carry unique stuff at good prices.
  16. I'm currently using just one Tunze 6025 and my return (Eheim Compact 1000 with Hydor Flo Deflector) for flow, and so far I'm happy with the results. Of course, I don't keep SPS, so requirements might differ.
  17. Glad its doing well... Looks like I need to visit you soon!
  18. Sorry to disappoint you bro, but that's not going to happen! In reefing reality, you're just clearing more space to accommodate more corals!
  19. You harvest zoas illegally from the ocean to cover the cost of your trip...? Wow... So how much are you going to sell per polyp? $100++?
