  1. Green Star Polyps can be very invasive if the water quality is ideal, so it might overrun zoas in the long run. You can control their growth by cutting the base.
  2. Mag-Float cleaners should be good. As the name says, in the event the 2 pieces get separated, the one in the tank will not sink to the bottom but float to the top. I would give an 8 / 10 for cleaning effectiveness, but it really depends on what you want to remove from the glass. They have different sizes for various glass thickness.
  3. If you are referring to Bubble Magus QQ, you can get it from DELightings. PM Dr Evil for pricing and details.
  4. What lights are you using again? Able to control the blues and whites separately?
  5. IMO, I feel that one should save up to buy his / her own equipment, tank, etc, be it brand new or 2nd hand, while using the time to do more research. I'm very sure many reefers would agree that if sufficient and proper research is done, this in itself is a cost saving as you spend less on getting things that you don't need. I learn from experience that there is more heartache when things purchased from my own pocket either die, malfunction, etc, and I appreciate the value of the lesson, and be wiser.
  6. Found this photo on Nano-reef.com. It is a coffee table from Ikea. Center is reinforced with just cardboard honeycomb. Saltwater tanks are very heavy, so if anyone has plans to use similar furniture from Ikea as a tank stand, do take note of the weight it could carry. Disclaimer: I'm not putting Ikea furniture down, they do build nice furniture sometimes, just a word of caution. Safety first! Cheers!
  7. I used to have a tank in the bedroom, but I must say I didn't sleep very well because of it. I wasn't able to make the setup totally silent with the equipment I have, and being sensitive to noise, it affected my sleep. Your choice of cooling (fan, chiller or room air-con) and equipment (pumps, skimmers, wavemakers, etc) will impact noise level. If you truly want one in your bedroom, do consider these factors.
  8. I used to have something similar, and AlgaeX works wonders for me. However, I do not have SPS, so if you want to try, pls take caution.
  9. It is better to live with a clear conscience than to try and make a small profit over 2nd hand items. Not worth it.

Yeah, the seller reluctantly took back the skimmer and sent it for repair but the repair job was so lousy that i dont even have the confidence to use it anymore, haizz...i decided to dump it away and have to get a new one instead :(

Jeeze... was there even a refund? That was just terrible. I would normally request to test out the equipment before I make a purchase.

Refund ?? flat hope after the money has been given ! so its a case of 400 mula down the drain my friend. I was a newbie then, didnt know that i should test out the equipment, so i am very careful with 2nd item nowadays.

  10. You know IV drip? It uses the same gravity concept to replenish evaporated water. There is a Dolphin Mini chiller that you can try, but I'm not too sure how effective it is. A Resun CL 280 would do nicely.
  11. Welcome, n.morgan. Some things you need to take note of when using a fan: Pros - Relatively cheap, easy to use, take up small amount of space, effective depending on the type of fans used (I personally will not recommend PC fans as they are very weak) Cons - Cooling effect takes place via evaporation, hence regular fresh water top up is required. If this is not managed properly, swings in salinity of your water can be disastrous to your tank inhabitants. Some reefers would install an Auto Top Off system to overcome this problem, but do read up more on how it works and issues related to this type of system before taking the plunge. If it is within your budget, an Ice-Probe should work fine with a 1ft cube.
  12. It would help your sales if you post a link to your previous sales thread. Otherwise, you could re-post your photos here.
  13. You can get it from Petmart. Give them a call to find out if there is stock.
  14. We should have a nano or pico tank compeition...

Actually, I wasn't referring to Aquarama, but more to SRC having a nano/pico reef tank competition. Simple rules like total water volume not exceeding certain amount, competition lasts till the end of the year, panel of judges, polling or both, etc.

It looks DIY, but done up quite nicely. Looks like a modified plastic trash can. The extra large filter compartment allows for mangrove , chaeto, & possibly a nano skimmer. Below is the link.

Ok, back on topic. Looks like it's 2 - 0 swinging towards custom-made AIO. Anyone else has other inputs?

  18. This is a video I've watched quite a number of years back. The Chinese magician probably copied this trick from the Japanese. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AARkV5KjaBA

I think he is venturing elsewhere. Singapore market is too small. It is sad, but we wish him all the best.

Thanks bro! However, I'll need a receipt for this as it is for work purposes, thus getting from another person might not work out.
