  1. As far as I know, they will only touch the coraline if you ran out of other kinds of algae.
  2. My tank is a little too small for that, and besides, removing the broken spines will be a P.I.T.A.
  3. He does clear some of the diatom, but not quite fast enough, so I chipped in. I think the flow in my tank is pretty high. It seems that the hermit did not move much at all until I switched off the pumps. He started to roam around and got busy with the hair algae. Thanks! I hope I can create a nice GSP beard or afro hairdo for him. Thanks! Looking forward to the re-setup of your IQ5!
  4. Current FTS. I'm going really slow in terms of stocking and adding of corals, so this might be a bit boring. Little sprouts of hair algae have grown on the rocks and even on Dum Dum, so I hope the hermit does its work.
  5. I hope they stay put though. As it is, they are the very shy type that will not come out in the open most of the time. If they remain hidden on the other side of the tank, is as good as I have no fish! Lol...
  6. I failed miserably at my first attempt to somewhat force my Yasha pair and pistol shrimp to use the DIY burrow. I used a tao hui tub, cut a hole and placed the trio with the hole of the container towards the burrow. The shrimp escaped before I could even reach the burrow, and the size of the cut out was too big, so the Yashas eventually explored every other area EXCEPT where I want them to be. I left them on their own, but it bugs me not to be able to watch them at all, which completely defeats the original purpose of having the DIY burrow. While removing the rocks and Dum Dum for the scrub, I discovered that one of the Yashas didn't make it. I removed the remaining Yasha, the pistol shrimp, and devised attempt No. 2. I cut one 1.5l bottle in half and use it as a funnel. This helped to guide the pair to the burrow without much problems. Here are some peekaboo pics. I still want a pair of Yashas, so I'll be looking out for a replacement as soon as shipment comes.
  7. Added some coralline algae flakes from my home tank to seed this one. Bio-load is really light at the moment, so the BM NAC 3.5 doesn't skim much out. Its green tea for now. I had an Ice Probe that was laying around, so I thought I'd give it a try to see if it could keep my tank cool when the A/C is off. I'm surprised it could keep the tank at 25oC. Prolly works well for weekends, but not for long periods. I'll put it at the filter compartment when I have time to DIY some kind of holder.
  8. Some updates... I've added the cleaning crew. The list are as follows: 1x Tuxedo Urchin 1x Red Scarlet Hermit Crab 10x Nassarius Sp. Snails (the mini kind) 1x Sand Dollar They have done a pretty awesome job so far, but I ran out of patience for a clean tank, so I gave Dum Dum and the rocks a little scrubbing during water change.
  9. Goes to show your corals are doing well in your tank. Do take note of the blue polyps at the bottom though. They could get pretty invasive.

There's a Chinese saying that goes by "Throwing a brick to draw out a jade". I guess some may just be doing that so as to pick up new knowledge along the way. I'm humbled by just reading some of these postings.

  11. Nice scape! That should be a good foundation for an SPS dominated reef.
  12. Lol... how did the 6-line lose 2 stripes?
  13. I bought one too! Sweet looking damsel. Mine was quite hyper at M3, and already swimming out in the open in my tank. Just fed it. Very active fella. Keeping my fingers crossed on aggression though... its the next biggest fish apart from my velvet wrasse (also from M3 today).
  14. Blue is equally sweet looking. The ones I saw were a dull beige. So... would the colour change / fade, etc over time?
  15. Bro, looking at your turf is giving me ideas...
  16. Erm... how come a Google search give me results that show a very dull looking fish? Nothing like the one shown in your pic...
  17. Nice to meet you again last sat, bro! Do join us this Friday.
  18. Why don't you go vertical and make an extension above the sump to hold your filter sock, while adding filter wool just below the sock in case it overflows? I think its best to suspend the filter sock instead of soaking it under water. Your sump should be very clean this way.
  19. Anyone knows where I can get a replacement for the Tunze Osmolator pump?

  20. How about 24 x 24 x 18? Standard glass sizes, so it is cheaper than odd numbers. A lower tank height makes a lot of difference when it comes to maintenance, and a nice top-down view = shiokness. Do take note of your sump volume as it needs to be able to handle the extras that flow back into the sump when you switch off the main pump or during a power failure. Filter sock overflow contingency plans should be considered as well.
