  1. Hi all! For those who have visited my first tank thread, I've had a small upgrade from a 1 Ft to a 1.5 Ft tank. The design is pretty much the same as before, except with more room for better equipment and livestock. Here's the link: peacemaker's office nano tank As usual, not having deep pockets like some of the folks here, I prefer to stick to smaller tanks. The selection of corals will be of the smallest in sizes, which leads to lower cost. Also, being an office nano, I have very limited space, and having a smaller tank enables easier maintenance. Personally, I love being "up close & personal" with the tank inhabitants, and I'm often found staring at my tank with my nose almost touching the glass. A small tank gives me that "focus" view. Please kindly share your comments and advice as I humbly present to you, my mini reef:
  2. Are those hair algae on the rocks? Can't see clearly, but if it is, I would prefer to get rid of it before it manifest the whole tank. You could use more rocks though. Do you plan to cover the overflow area? And yes, you've pretty much arrived to the fun part of reefing... getting those lovely corals and fishes!
  3. Sounds like a high risk pet... I'm just glad I got rid of the one in my tank.
  4. Wow! Another nice tank in the making. Partition tanks seem like the "in" thing nowadays... reefers no longer just emphasize on the "interior" decor, but "exterior" as well. The setup looks quite classy. However, do take note of the practical aspects, as some of the bros have mentioned. More pics!
  5. Looking good! I kinda prefer the "Arena" though... but I guess the last scaping allows you to place more corals? I'm also not good at taking photos of fishes. They just swim so fast! If anyone has a technique, pls share with us. I hope its not like range for moving targets... I'm a fish bobo shooter...
  6. Have you ever tried putting your hand in the tank...? Maybe you are typing with a hook instead of fingers now... hehehe... How much does it cost to get one as shown in the video? Is it even possible to put corals in or clean the tank without being mistaken for food...?
  7. Hahah... I thought "cataract" meant some type of skimmer. Thanks for your advice! I should be trying my 1300L/Hr pump first, and if it doesn't work, then I'll try Firestarter's suggestion. I'm currently using another skimmer, so this one's been put to storage. Should I start another nano, I'll definitely give it a shot.
  8. Thanks Bro Firestarter! I'll give it a try.
  9. Looks like a much better spot compared to the old one. Great job! Xing ku le!
  10. Holy crap! Those were the sounds that I heard when I did some "fencing" with it. It was like 2 swords clashing, except to a much smaller degree. That's why I retracted my hand at first contact. Gave me a shock. Its speed and accuracy is scary. I'd rather not mess with this guy. But the one in the video is such a huge assed beauty.
  11. Thanks for the clarification, Bro Kareen! And yes, 600l/hr is indeed too small to drive this skimmer. Tried and tested, as stated in my first post. It states there as being a cataract skimmer... no clue how it works.
  12. Bah... I'm staying in the east and do not have my own transport, so LCK is out of question. The next time you drop by, mind asking the uncle the flow rate of his pump and how he managed to get it to work? in advance!
  13. Is that a leather coral perched on the side glass? How did it get there? How long have you had this tank? Nice coralline algae growth on the back of the tank.
  14. Oops... unfortunately, its been flushed down the toilet. But seriously, why would you guys keep something like that...? I personally feel that it looks more like a pest than a pet, but that's just me.
  15. I believe Bro Jevis is planning something big ahead... stop keeping us in suspense! Looking forward to your daily updates once again!
  16. Thanks for the ID, bros! So izzit harmful to fishes like gobies? Very sneaky fella, this one.
  17. Very beautiful fish! And very nice photos too. May I know what camera you're using?
  18. And of course, this lead to more hunting... I was having trouble keeping my gobies. They would die the very next day with torn fins just beside the rocks. At first I thought it was aggression, but I have only common clownfishes, cleaner shrimps and hermit crabs. I checked my water perimeters and they were ok. Then I noticed some movement in the live rocks. Nuisance crabs! They must have attacked them when they are in their dart "holes" during the night. Managed to catch one today. Hahahahahahaha... Die, you evil thing!
  19. I used a pair of tweezers and battled with it for quite awhile. It went back and forth, like fencing, and I could actually feel its "claws" or "fangs" attacking my tweezers. When it retaliated the very first time, I was shocked and pulled my hand out of the water, causing quite a splash. Finally decided to pull the whole rock out and dip it in a small bucket of DI water. It didn't want to come out of his hole at first, but after poking with the tweezers, he jumped right out (yes, I was startled by it again ) and there it is, his last dying moments. Cheers! Can someone kindly tell me what is this?
  20. I was admiring my corals one morning when I saw this guy sneak from my mushrooms back to another rock. I was taken by surprise as it was extremely fast. Check out his eyes from the hiding place.
