  1. *Gasps* <== the usual reaction from people Have you been inside the compound? It probably has the largest area compared to other hospitals. Very peaceful setting, with many trees providing good shade. Its not like what most people think, that it is "risky" to go in there. I play basketball there sometimes. Btw, how do you know if my setup is suitable for keeping dragonets? Mine is just a 1.5 Ft nano IOS. I've always wanted to keep one, but have not read much about them yet. Care to share more?
  2. I have kept mushrooms, rics and zoas with 11W PL before without any problems, so you can give it a try. But my tank was 10" in height. Not much difference.
  3. Glad you're enjoying yourself in this hobby... Your excitement is contagious. How's the lion fish doing? Getting fat?
  4. I have the same reflection problem too. AT posted this link in another thread: Top down photography techniques and equipment I have not tried it out yet, but if you do, keep us posted on the outcome.
  5. Did a bit of re-scaping today after getting some new corals. Shifted the whole rock scape backwards for more foreground space. Will be posting photos after the corals acclimatise to my tank. I should be done stocking now... the whole tank is pretty packed at the moment. The only way I could buy any more is to sell my existing ones. *Sigh* The constraints of a nano tank...
  6. No complaints from me except having to carry the heavy bottles to my office (tank). One thing I do know is that using distilled water beats using tap water. Ever since I changed to 100% distilled water plus keeping a chaeto and using a skimmer, I do not face any nuisance algae problems.
  7. Feels like the chinese phrase, "Fresh flowers planted on cow dung". Poke it a bit and make it move! Then take the pic.
  8. There are 1 Ft T5 lightsets, but they are low output (8 - 11W). I was told by a few LFS that the minimum length for HO T5s is 2 Ft. Depending on the height of your tank and the corals you keep, you need to consider carefully if it meets the lighting requirements of your tank inhabitants.
  9. Hahaha... the cucumber spoiled the photo lah!
  10. Can't agree more... its wonderful to share the joy and beauty of the reef hobby. Quite meaningless if you're the only one who appreciates all the effort put in to make it look good.
  11. Interested in your zoas, esp the blue one. Where's your location for viewing?
  12. but barnacle probably has one of the best avatars around here... shake it baby!
  13. You are one fortunate reefer! Support from the family can be rare, looking at the number of decommed tanks mentioning about wife or mom nagging, etc... Heh.
  14. Ah... sweet. This rock of mushrooms sure has lots of hitchhikers... mantis shrimp, nuisance crabs, and now starfishes. At least these are useful.
  15. Hahaha... no sump tank. Its an ISO. Well, tried psychoing my boss to get those bottled distilled water dispensers... Hope the float switches don't take up that much space...

  17. After dosing 2 capfuls of 5 in 1 Coral food, I noticed worm-like creatures coming from my mushrooms. Upon closer look, it seems like very tiny starfishes. Anyone care to ID? Is it harmful?
  18. I did a small modification to my skimmer's air intake today. I have limited experiences with skimmers, and didn't realize that even such tweaking could contribute quite a lot to the type of skimmate.
  19. Hahaha... what kind of updates are you looking for? Mine is a nano tank, you know... very small and limited. Heh... I just bought 2 new zoas from Ah Beng's, so will be taking some pictures later once they have fully acclimatised. On the contrary, I'm looking forward to your tank updates!
  20. ORD lo! I shouted that years ago... When you join the workforce, you'll be thinking of upgrading to a bigger tank...
  21. Wow... fellowship of the reefers! I like this... I still have plenty to learn from most of the long time reefers here. I'm staying in Pasir Ris, so naturally, Pasir Ris farmway is my usual hang-out. My tank is in my office (Serangoon area), and therefore I do drop by at Jalan Kayu once in awhile. Can't agree more with wil lee... this hobby can really be draining to your finances. Just came back from the farm planning to get a tubby, but ended up buying more corals...
  22. Argh... and it was just that simple! Thanks for the article, AT! Will be trying the recommended methods after I get my new camera.
  23. Thanks for your reply! Will continue to monitor the situation.
