  1. You can use MS Paint if you do not have Photoshop and just resize the photos there. I'm looking at Sony T70 with its magnifying glass mode at 1cm focus distance. Have to wait till mid-year bonus... *puts on sunglasses to view sunnies* B)
  2. I need to learn how to do this... getting more from less. Do you cut it off from the stem and glue the remaining portion directly to another rock? Will those 2 part rock bonder be of any use, or you let it settle on some rubble using a net before bonding?
  3. I wish! But my dad hardly has any clue to even keep fresh water fish nice and healthy... Kept telling me what the olden days were like, when he kept lots of guppies in large tanks made of concrete using rain water, filter-less... kampong style. The only good thing is he knows how to appreciate fish keeping hobby.
  4. Hahaha... cannot compare... his tank low maintenance, and my mom has been nagging already, so you can imagine... Other than the benefits of saving on electricity bills and getting a chiller, the good thing about having an office nano is I'm able to enjoy it for most part of the day (my lights are switched on from 8am to 5pm daily), and it is a good form of stress relief from a day's hard work. The setback is on transporting corals and doing maintenance on weekends (off working hours). Well... at least that's my promise to my boss. I do have a buddy that I really need to thank him for. He gives me lifts to the LFS and to the office during weekends (I do not have my own transport, he rides a bike). Without him, this tank would not have been possible to setup, and the best thing is, he doesn't even have interest in reef keeping at all! I ever balanced a 2 FT tank on my lap while riding on his bike. If you're reading this, thanks buddy!
  5. Bro, you need to resize your pics lah! Everytime want to admire your tank need to wait quite awhile for the photos to load. I think you mentioned it before, but do you mind repeating the model and brand of camera that you use? Thanks in advance!
  6. My dad's freshwater tank only. Keeping some neon tetras, mosses and carpet grass. With the current hike in electrical bills, a marine tank at home is definitely a no no with my parents. Working hard now to earn more so that I can afford to keep a bigger tank at home, plus paying the bills.
  7. The "colour wolves" always very quick to respond to ladies' queries, very helpful one! But seriously, do read up a lot and find out more about the living requirements of the inhabitants and corals that you desire to keep, THEN plan your setup. Happy reefing!
  8. Yellow porcupine! You must grab some gems from him in return of the favour.
  9. Bro, why get a chiller when you have free air-con? My temperature with the air-con on is around 24 to 25 deg C, so all I need is to cope with the time that its switched off. As long as I can keep the water levels stable it should be good. To get my co. to sponser = dan gu gu. They are kind enough to absorb the electrical bills, so I'm more than happy.
  10. Looking great! Btw, you might wanna consider providing more space for your rics to grow and expand. Mine was attached about the same distance apart as yours, and I find that they are already fighting each other for more room as they grow.
  11. Heh... always have to pry my eyes off the tank and focus on the computer screen... Its an office nano, so I really have my bosses to thank for allowing me to keep one. One of the setbacks atm is it isn't automated enough for me to go on a long holiday. Lately, the evaporation rate was crazy, and from an average of 1 x 1.5 ltr bottle of distilled water per day, it went up to almost 2+ bottles over the weekends. The air-con goes off, so I have to rely on my fan to cool the tank. It stays between 27 to 28 deg with the air-con off (the air is reasonably cool). Still looking for an auto top off system, but on a tight budget. One thing I know, there's always room for more zoas!
  12. Bleh... just realised that you meant under T5 blues... misread. I haven't tried that, but my tubes are arranged as 2 white in the middle and 2 blue at the sides. Need to re-arrange the tubes if I wanna see the effect. Thanks for the viewing tips, Bro FT!
  13. Coco and tube worms to the center and GSP to the top.
  14. Side views. Much more frontal swimming space for the fishes.
  15. FTS. Pretty much the same, except shifting the live rocks further backwards for more foreground space. The Hydor Nano have been shifted to direct its flow in front instead of the back. Gives an overall better flow in the tank.
  16. Yes, they are under T5s now (4 tubes, 2 white 2 blue), but low output (9 - 11W?). I'm really really tempted to just get a 2 Ft T5 HO, but my only worry is it'll be too strong and my corals will start to bleach. My tank height is 1 Ft. Any advice?
  17. Top down view: purple/pink with green center zoas! Sis Ming!
  18. On a brighter note, some pics of my latest collection: black face zoas with orange skirting.
  19. Sad news... when I went back to the office today, the red zoas have... vaporized. Not a trace of it left, just bare live rock. I'm clueless of what exactly happened to them. The other zoas are doing fine, so I'm praying that they'll stay that way. If one starts to recede, something must be feeding on them, and I'll have to do an emergency evacuation. I'll take the chance to list some other casualties: my Royal Gramma went MIA a couple of weeks back, and no body was found during the re-scape, so I guess when it was feeding upsidedown in the LFS it was an early warning sign... lesson learnt. The other was my orange yuma mushroom rock. They didn't do very well after 3 weeks in my tank and started to melt. I gave it a FWD, thinking that it could be some pest (I saw holes in it), but that didn't help. Sigh...
  20. I lost a few firefish to the mantis shrimp in my tank almost 2 months back. Couldn't understand why they died until I caught it and found out that it is one ferocious creature! Now both my purple firefish and diagonal bar goby can live happily. You're very fortunate that it got stuck in the filter wool, Sis Ming!
  21. The hermits post more of a problem with rocking the corals than the snails. As long as I provide some empty shells for the hermits there shouldn't be much of a problem. Both are still needed to keep the tank clean.
