  1. Bleached because not enough lighting or too much?
  2. All rock are technically dead, there are 'alive' because of the because of the bacteria that grow in it. Bacteria which breakdown ammonia and nitrite.
  3. Using salifert kit. Tank still cycling, no live stock at all. I am dosing PO4. Doing water change tml with saltwater mix. Currently is NSW. Can't seem to upload photo. Got some upload error 500
  4. I think it does, The live rock with hair algae is near my wavemaker. Second week onward I can see rock along the wave path seem to be getting it.
  5. Vacuum the hair algae out? Izzit strong enough? Do you think is advisable to throw in cheato to compete for nutrient? I should only add in live stock or coral after the hair algae problem is gone right? Can add in cleaner crew after I am sure the ammonia and nitrite is 0?
  6. If nuisance algae is still growing? what can be the contributing factors?
  7. Just tested my tank PO4, is less than 0.03 but seem like nuisance algae is still growing. Still cycling the tank, 3 weeks old now. Attached a picture, is that hair algae? Currently on the 24w white T5 during the day and 2 x 24W blue T5 during the night. The light routine okay? Dosing dry bacteria from henry initially (2 weeks), now dosing microlift special blend. Was using NSW, now toping up with saltwater mix. Any advise?
  8. Tap water introduce PO4 which promote nuisance algae. Better to use DI water for top up and water change.
  9. Do you use DI water or tap water for top up and change? What is your water change routine?
  10. How old is the tank? What is the nitrate and PO4 level?
  11. If our nose can detect, it probably means most of the living thing in the tank is dead! Use test kit to test. I only test ammonia during the initial setup. A mature system shouldn't have trace of ammonia.
  12. ammonia is reduce by bacteria in the live rock/biological filtration. Ammonia is reduce to nitrite then nitrate by these bacteria. Nitrate being the less harmful can be tolerated by fish to a certain level. But with the presence of nitrate, nuisance algae will grow which compete nutrient with the good algae like coraline algae.

    clown and mandrain still available?
  14. You might have over stock too early considering you only cycle your tank for 2weeks and 5 days. Meanwhile don't add in anymore livestock or coral. Getting some cheato to export the nutrient also.
