I agree with you about the snails. At the rate that they are going, they will starve soon. I may put them up for sale to those bros who have alage problem. My tank's sandbed is clean except a dead spot that is at below my Tunze wavemaker. It is like a graveyard with all the stuff there. I do not know how to get rid of this deadspot. I am thinking of getting a gravel cleaner to remove the stuff during weekly maintenance.

No lah...It is not a snowflake clown...it is just my false percula taken at low shutter speed. My wife will have killed me if I bought one. If got cash, better spend the money to buy her an LV bag during Valentine day. I have done a FW dip yesterday for my 3 zoas. I have also killed about 4-5 Nudis attached to my tank glass. 2 of my Zoas seem to recovered and extend after 2 hours of the treatment. This morning, I did not see any Nudis on my glass. I hope that I have contain the problem at least for now. Thanks for all your advices.

This is my 7th Week Update. The aunty from Coral Fram was right when he recommeded the algae snails(can't remember the scientic name) instead of the turbo snails whicH i originally want. The snails almost wiped out my aglae in 1 week. They even help me clean my wavemaker. See picture below With 1 problem gone, my next problem have surfaced. Jervis Bro was right when he suggested that I may have Nudis attack when my Zoas cannot extended fully. I found a few on my glass in the morning. I did a search on this problem in this forum and found 2 potential solutions: 1) Use Warsse to eat the Nudis 2) Use a 5 min FW dip I just had a hard time removing the green wrasse a few weeks back. It may be its way of getting back at me..hehe No way, I am going to get another problem to solve this problem. I will try the freshwater dip this week and will update my results again

I am newbie too..below is some of the LFS in the west that I have visited. I am say that there are more LFS in the East. Most if the time I bought from Coral farm Other reefers, pls feel free to add or comment. I think there is 1 or 2 more shops in the West, but I have not visited them yet. If you have a car and want to buy fish, inverts or soft corals, I strongly recommend Coral Farm because they are cheaper and have a good range. But they don't sell LPS. I don't recommend walking on a hot day (quite far). For LPS, I recommend JM or ML. Of course they a bit of everything else. LCK110 is in the same area as Coral Farm. They don't carry big inventory, it is advisable to call before you go. It think there is a bus that go near there but have to walk. In the past, my hermit crab will disturb my green zoa by climbing on it. I will check out the Nudis. So far I cannot spot anything but maybe I do not know how to look...do the hairy creatures move. Any cure? At the moment, only 50% of the polyps are opened for that particular green zoanthid. will monitor for 1 more week and decide what to do with it. Thanks

Jervismun, you really have sharp eyes. For the algae, it has already started in the 4th weeks. It think it become more obvious now. But the increase has been very gradual since the 4th week. I also see another type of algae (with white flowers at tips) in some parts of the tank. See picture below Can you help ID this? Thanks Initially for the first 3 weeks, I on the light for about 5 hours. When I bought more corals, I increased it to about 7 hrs. Is it too much? How to determine what is the correct amount of lighting. I am testing my water every week with 20% water change and have not spot any irregularities in water parameters. Thanks again your feedback. I have learnt a lot from you and your thread.

This week I have addded the following LS: 1) 1 x Moon Coral (Brain) 2) 1 x Zoa 3) 1 x Leather finger 4) 1 x Mushroom Frag 5) 2 x Algae Snail I realized that my tank is almost full. My 2 caves design make is harder to put more corals. I hope to get 1 torch coral or samll prata and 1 more zoa frag(eagle eye) Any bro out here want to sell one to me? So far, except for Goniopora(at $15), all LS are bought at below $10. This is truly a "poor man" Tank Maybe I should buy something more expensive. After water changes and controlling my feeding, my nitrate have dropped back to 10 ppm. My alkanity seem to be dropping slightly back to 7 even though I am regularly adding Aqupharm Part A&B. Can everyone tell me what is the reason for this? I am thinking of dosing more Part B. My bubbles are really doing well. Every much improved from the condition when I bought from LFS. All corals except my green zoa are doing really well. My clownfish is happy again after the bully is removed Some of the polyps of my green zoa is not extending. Is there something wrong with it?

Where is the collection place?

I have the same 6025 and using it in a 25g tank. Yes, it is very strong and I suspect that the white particles suspended in my tank is due to this. Part of my sand always seem to be blown to front corner of the tank. Someone ever comment to me that 6025 may be too strong for my tank. I bought this based on LFS recommendation. I am still trying to adjust the direction to find out which is the best that do not disturb my sand. However beside the sand and the particles problem, my corals are doing well. There is both zoas and mushroom in my tank. I find that there is more flow on the right side (bounce off the wall) of my tank. I think you just need to find the correct position to put the correct type of coral. But pls don't take my word for it as I only have the tank for 6 weeks.

NanoCube 24G up and running for 2.5 mths

Bro, Thanks for explaining it so clearly. Wow , feed your fish once every 3 days...are you sure your fish has enough food? hehe Feeding before changing water sounds like a good idea. will try it for my frozen food (once a month) I also do weekly changes but nitrate seem not able to decrease. By the way, where do you get that Seachem Marix. May try it if my nitrate is still going up. Thanks again -
This is the 5th Week of my tank. Not been a very good week I removed my Cauliflower because it seemed to be dying. My green wrassel was bullying my clownfish and the poor guy always stay at one corner when he is around. The fish is too smart and it was impossible to try to catch it. My wife cannot stand the bullying and issue an imperial eddict to remove the wrassle at 11pm last night. I have not choice but remove my LS in order to catch it. You can imagine the pain of doing re-scaping in the middle of the night. I still remember the advice given to me by the LFS when I just start out a month agao..."there are no secrets or advise to be successful...you have to learn through mistakes..." Buying this wrassle was my greatest mistake so far and I really hope I learnt from it. I actually quite fond of the previous landscape but i soon realized that I cannot put it back the same way it was, no matter how hard I try. It was worse than doing a puzzle. I think my Nitrate level increased from 10 to 20 ppm because of this rescaping exercise, I have to disturb all my other Fishes and Corals. I hoped that they don't get affected by this event. The positive thing is that my clownfish seemed to have recovered of the bullying experience. Attached is the pictures before and after the landscape. Maybe you can comment on which one you prefer?....

NanoCube 24G up and running for 2.5 mths

Hi Magical26. Like you, I have a JBJ but you are about 1.5 months ahead of me. Congrats on having a successful Nano tank. Can you share with me your nitrate trend for the past month? Mine just climb to 20 ppm after I did a re-scaping. Do you have anything to help control the nitrate? -
When I took the photograph of the bubble, it was only 1 day after I placed it in my tank. In the first place, I don't think it is perfectly healthy when I bought it (given a good discount for it). After the car trip from the East to the West and rolling on the car mat, the coral looked dead (no colours and no bubbles) when I open the bag. I thought that I have helped to make the coral up the lorry. However, it didn't die and am improving by the day. I will show a photo again in the near future and I may change the position a bit to make it look better. I hope the coral can survive because I really like the green colour rather than the white one. Thanks everyone for your comments

Thanks all for your advise. It let understand a bit more about this coral. Yesterday, I went home to find the cauliflower still in the same state. At one corner, there was a bit of browning (not obvious before) Thus I decide to remove it (just to be safe) to avoid causing problems to my tank. There was still no rotting smell when I removed. No more Cauliflower for me for a long.long long time.

I think I partially know why there are always particles inside my water. I realized that once in a while, my life rocks "blows" out particles Maybe there are some small live things in the LR responsible for it. Any guesses?

I went down Iwarna on Monday. Initially, want to get myself some rics. but there are really too expensive for beginners like me. Thus no rics for my tanks. Got myself a green bubble coral because I like the unique shape of the stone that comes with it. Saw a coral that looked rather nice with flowers that glow green. Ask the auntie and she say that it is a jewel that is quite hardy(maybe for experienced reefer??) Thus I bought it even though I did not know much about it. To my dismay, i realised that it is a goniopora when I ID it with my coral book. The book mentioned that is not easy in captive aquarium. I have made another beginner mistake. It is really hard to ID corals at LFS. Any tips? Hope that it can survive at least 6 months

Thanks everyone for your advice. I took out the coral to smell as per recommended. There was still no decay smell. I am using 2x36W CF, should not be too strong for softie. I will monitor it closely...do not want it to cause my tank to crash! Maybe the coral is hungry. I was only feeding them weekly 5 in 1 coral food from Aquaparm. Any good recommendation (brand)for coral food? I do not feed them regularly with live food either.

My pink Cauliflower used to be able to extend. However, when it extend, the base rock become unstable with its weight and water circulation. 1 week ago, the Cauliflower (with the based rock attached) fell off the LR and onto the sand bed. Thus I moved it further down the tank where the Cauliflower with its base can be placed in a more stable position. However, now it did not extend as it used to. What is wrong...can i rectify it. What is the problem? 1) The Cauliflower have not recovered from the fall? 2) Not enough light due to change in position 3) Not enough water circulation due to change in position 4) others? I am having a JBJ 24g nano cube with water parameter within normal acceptable range. Can anyone help me with this problem?

My Nano tank just passed its 1 month mark (also marked my 1 month into this hobby) I must admit that I have been not very patient and added LS a bit too fast. Anyway, I am doing a 1 full review for my I have attached the latest tank photo and LS list below. I have added a KIA list to remind myself and hope to learn from mistakes. Water Parameters NH3 : 0 ppm NO2: 0.03 ppm? (Salfeit damm hard to read...any easier brand or not?) NO3: 10 ppm pH: 8.2 KH: 9 Calcium 420 ppm PO4: 0 ppm I am not satisifed with my NO3 level and have been reading around in this forum to figure out how to reduce it. Besides changing water, I did not find any solutions that is suitable for my Nano (either too expensive or have to add external equipment outside my tank) Description of stuff in my tank now Corals 1 x green star polyp (Great) 1 x Cauliflower finger (Not good (not extending)) 1 x leather sponge mushroom (Great..polyps extending) 2 x Zoanthus (Great) Fish 1 x Pajama Cardinal (Great) 1 x yellow tail damsel (Great) 1 x green wrasse (good) 2 x False Percula Clownfishs (2 days old but still swimmming very fast in tank??) Cleaning crew 2 x skunk shrimps (Great, molted 1 time already) 3 x blue knuckle hermit crap (Good) 1 x zebra serpent star (Very Active & working very hard) KIA 2 x False Percula (Died within 3 days & do not know why) 1 x green wrassel (Removed due to fighting between wrassle) 1 x blue knuckle hermit crap (Died after 2 weeks without any obvious cause) Want list in the very short term 1 x bubble coral 1 x torch coral 1 x yuma coral 1 x brain coral So far my favorite coral shop is Coral farm (Cheap and nearer to my place) However, they do not have the above corals. Need to travel down to Pasir Ris soon (damm far even though I drive) Any comments or advices are welomed

Thanks for the advice. Yep. Now my green wrasse did eat the pellets. However, 50% of the time, he is in the sand. Thus I have to time my feeding time. However, my 2 wrasse fight each other so badly that I have to remove one. Luckily, so far it lived peacefully with my yellow tailed damsel and 2 new clownfish. Last week, i tried to feed 1 cube of frozen mysis. Once, I put it in, the water circulation make it dispersed all over the tank. It looked very messy, I don't know whether this is normal or not. However, I will try not to feed with this stuff too often because I got a feeling that it will increase my bio-load.
-
First of all, I can't tell whether my corals or stress or not (Only 1 month into this hobby) Seem quite normal to me. I have attached the photos below. It is not easy to try to take photos of these particles When the lights are on, it seem to be snowing inside my tank. Maybe this is chrismas session If I'm lucky, it will stop when spring comes during CNY. LOL

So it seem to be detritus based on the feedback here. Mine does no seem to settle down at all. Does it mean that my powerhead is not placed properly and it keep on blowing detritus from the sand bed? I only have those coarse sponge in my filter. Does everyone put those fine wool in their filters? I am deciding whether to take some actions or just live with it? Any further comments?
-
When my aquarium lights are on, I can see a lot of white small paricles in the water. What are this particles? Is this normal? Is it because my wave maker is not positioned properly and causing the particles to be generated from the sand bed? Hope that someone can enlighten me on this

I like your red coco worm best. Is it difficult to take care? What do you feed it?
