I always can't resist dropping by GO when I am in the vicinity. End up buying more corals even when my tank is pretty full already
-
Went to Coral Farm last week to buy 1 more common clownfish, a chromis and a orange starfish Somehow, my original clownfish do not seem to like the chromis. On the 2nd day, I found the Chromis dead at the bottom of the tank I really like the orange starfish. I hope this one will survive because I do not have much luck on my previous attempt What is the food for this type of starfish anyway?

The most difficult part of having a nano is trying to make it to look nice while keeping it simple. Trying to maintain the system without skimmer and chiller can be tough. I felt that if I used those, the whole system will look cluttered and somewhat defeats the purpose of keeping a Nano It can takes a lot of discipline to choose the correct livestock and do the weekly water changes.

After a total of 2 trips to GO, my tank was almost full This time, I have chosen corals that have been able to survive in my previous attempt at marine aquarium. It was not easy because I do not have a chiller and have to rely on a fan to cool my tank to 28-29 deg C I have decided not to stick to my old scaping and experiment with a new look. Do you prefer the old or new look? I may want to add 1 more fish but have not decided on the species. It seem that I do not have more space to add more corals. After putting the new tank together, I was glad that I did not give up this hobby. I almost decide to sell away the tank to avoid having to move the tank when I shift house. Any comments and suggestions are welcomed

My tank is JBJ 24G Nanocube but it was still an effort trying to shift the tank with the water and the surviving inhabitants. I threw away half the water during the move. After letting the tank stabilize for 1 week, I stocked up few corals.

Last year, I went to US for a 6 months business trip. I left my tank in my wife's care and most of my corals did not survive my stint overseas After I shifted house last month, I decided to start my Nano from scratch again. Below is a FTS of my Nano BEFORE going overseas. I cannot bear to take a photo of my tank after my trip My old tank thread can be found below http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...mp;hl=whitefish

oqs, Thanks for sharing your experience. I am now in US for a business trip. Really tempted to buy one WhiteFish

Hi, I also have a nc24. Currently, I change 15% water weekly or biweekly. With the Sapphire skimmer, how often do you change water? What is the impact before and after using the skimmer? I am also considering buying this skimmer. However, it is not cheap. I want to buy its effect before I buy it Whitefish

Went to GO for the first time. Unfortuanately, I was there just before the special shipment. But my pockets are not deep enough for the special gems anyway. The selection of LPS is really great and buying is so much easier when the tanks have MH. I bought a candy cane, a green plate coral and a pink open brain If it is not so far from my place, i definitely will be there more often.

I have a nanocube which have been running for about 7 months. Below is come of my comments 1. Any idea where I can get suitable replacement bulbs and what I should be getting? (both 50/50 or just one blue??) Most bigger LFS which sell equipment should sell this. The cost depends on the brand. I think I saw some which are sold at $20-$30 before. I am still using the 50/50 which comes with the tank. 2. Now cycling and just got a Resun Sk-05. Mine's a little noisy cos of the air intake, any way to lessen the noise? Do a search on this on this forum...that is quite a lot written on this. Yes...someone comment before that it is noisy...did you put it in the 2nd compartment. I bought one and decide not to use it because I decide to keep the bioload low (4 fish) and do 10% water change weekly instead. 3. Should I change the stock pump, maxijet 1200 seems popular. This stock pump is not very reliable, the rod holding the impeller could rusty in 2 months and the pump stopped working. The LFS help me change to a new rod. Initially, I bought a eheim 1000l/h pump. However, its high wattage cause my tank to increase to 32 deg C because I do not have a chiller. Took me a long time before I found one that has a flowrate of 800l/h and wattage of 9W. 4. What will you recommend for the filtration media? I use black sponge, a bit of fine white wool, phosphate remover and carbon. If you want to use the white wool, you havr to wash or clean it weekly to prevent it from becoming a nitrate factory 5. Anyone tried those 5 in 1 test strips? Thought of getting them but not sure how accurate they'll be. Not sure about it. Personally, I use the separate ones. for the first few months, i did measurement regularly. However, after sometime, the tank become very stable and the measurement results are always the same.

I realized that my tank has become too cluttered. Thus I decided to do a minor rescaping. What do you guys think? Which do you prefer ...Lanscape 1 or 2?

Snowman bro, Thanks for your comments. Unfortuanely, my yellow goby is moved from MIA list to KIA. Did not even see its body. No sure should buy another one to replace or not.. You must have been busy with school....didn't see you as active in this forum as before... 1st year in U...must remember to have fun in school

Bro, Pm you on the True Octo

I bought it last Saturday. At that time, there is about 10 left. It cost less than a green note. Yesterday, the goby went missing. I hope that it is just hidding and has become dinner for the hairy crab (hitchhiker). It is growing bigger and he always become a suspect when a fish go missing. MUst figure a way to remove it.

I don't think that the damsel is the cause of the suicide. According to literature, the yellow-tail damsel is the least aggressive one. This is one of the first few fishes I bought and I have not seen it chase anyone yet. On hindsight, I should not have risk buying one in the first place. However, that time, I was a newbie and can't resist it because of its bright colours, hardy nature and low price I once bought a green wrassle before...he is the real terror that drive my clown crazy.

This is my last update for today. This is my latest fish addition - Yellow Clown Goby from Iwarna. This is a very fun fish to watch. It is always resting on some of my coral.
-
This is another recent coral I brought from Iwarna. My previous green lobo is doing well even without the chiller. Thus I decided to do buy a red one. It is still not as "puffy" as my green one. Hopefully, it will expand more when get used to the tank

Decided to give an update after such a long time. My tank is now slightly more than 7 months old. I am still managing without a chiller. It has been a challenge. Ever since I got a fan, I have managed to control my tank to a temperature of 28+/-1 deg C (from about 30) by optimizing the timer. I also need to use low wattage equipment. I have to add about 1 litre of water every day at this setting. With this temperature, my hammer has recovered from bleaching. However, it seem that my red favia is still bleached. I wonder that it will slowly died off or it will stay this way? Maybe I should give it away to someone whon can nurse it back to health. My gonipora is also bleached but seem to be still doing well. Actually, the light colour is nicer than when it is not bleached Unfortuanely, last month, one of my common clown decided to committ sucide by jumping onto the sponge in the filter compartment. Other than that, all the fishes are doing well. Any comments and thoughts are welcomed

I suggest you put a temperature probe to put in the tank (slightly more than $10). Every tank is different because of the size, lighting, equipment and environment temperature. The tank is usually about 2 deg C above the room temperature because of the equipments
-
I use a timer to switch on the fan for about 30% of the time, I still need to top up about 1 litre a day. But it is quite effective tank can reduce about 2 deg C. I have not choice to do this because of the hot weather. Use low wattage equipment in the tank helps too. The corals (LPS) do not do extend properly once the tank temp consistently raises above 30 deg C. Mushrooms may be OK but I am not sure of Zoa. The above is just based on my limited experience.

Bro, Your tank is looking good. Look forward for more upadates
