There will be variation in the pH reading for 24hrs cycle especially when CR is in use. Are you using a testkit for measuring the pH?

SG is affected by temperature so you have to do temperature correction whereas PPT is not affected by temperature. If you look at those swim arm SG meter you'll see that their SG is true only at certain temperature. Your floating glass meter also need to do temperature compenstation. To drop the kH just do water change. Evaporation is not an issue is you just take a few mins daily to check the SG. So to answer your question at day 25 if you let the sg go above 1.009 then you need to restart again. You can see why some pple success at hyposalinity treatment and some don't and say hyposalinity is useless. They let the SG raise above 1.009 during the treatment and never repeat the whole cycle again. They let the kH crashed and caused pH crashed and that stressed and killed the poor fishes.

Derek, everything I said in this forum is I tried before with real experience and not paper talk (reading/heard/saw in internet or elsewhere) like some reefers here. I done hyposalinity treatment many times and the only reason why yours will fail is that you did not lower the salinity sufficiently. I feel you should use a refactometer which gives a more accurate reading. I prefer to use the ppt instead, you should keep the sg of the water below 16ppt at all times, 14 ppt is recommend as you have buffer for evaporation. Also are you checking the salinity of the water daily?If at any point of time the salinity raise above 16ppt then you have to repeat the full period of the hyposalinity treatment again. Good luck to you, time to invest in a refactrometer.

I guess it's not too late to change the sump now. Just couldn't believe that you can run a setup that doesn't allow power trip or total shut-down. Do it once properly and saves the headache later on.

If your kH crashed before then it is possible for STN to occur few weeks later and this is what you are seeing now. I would check the Mg levels and slowly raise it with addictives followed by kH and Ca. At the same time tune your CR properly so it holds the parameters properly. You can also frag abt 2" above the STN line and that should stop the STN provided the parameters are corrected.

True, we need more people who has success with zeovit to give other pple confident to use it. Same like all other products/method, there's bound to be examples of success and failure. Unfortunately for zeovit's case ended in failure if the reefer could not judge the dosage properly and this is so much easier to achieved compared to proper dose and finally reaching stage 3. What is stage 3? Stage 3 means all binned nutrients has been removed from the system and no zeostart (or very little) is required to keep the nutriuents at low level. The system is also very stable at this stage.
